Lee - I am trying to get as much walking in as I can too, but it was only 29 degrees today so I decided not to walk. I did wear myself out taking down all the Christmas decorations though. Glad that is done. Hopefully next year we will all enjoy the holiday more than we did this year!
Sophia - I love your posts and your sense of humor! I never would have guessed that English is not your first language.
I didn't really think about it until you ladies mentioned it, but yes I have been having the weight gain/loss issues too. I thought it was just my own weird body, but I guess we can just add that to the SE list too!
Chemo, the gift that just keeps on giving!!!
-
I noticed my ankles were swollen last night. Last time I ever saw that was when I was 9 months pregnant! My polka-dot socks actually left polka-dot divots in my skin!
-
FriendGwen - So glad to hear about your kitten! We got a 2 month old kitten a few days after my BMX and she has been an awesome therapy kitty. Nothing like a sleepy purring kitten when you are up way to early feeling way more miserable that you wish you were. It makes the suffering easier. Enjoy!!!
-
I think I may have freaked some of you out about the sex talk.... sorry, won't do that again....
-
Judaday, we are all big girls here. You can talk about whatever's on your mind here.
There's no sex happening around my house. It's like trying to drive a Buick through a straw, so Im curious how others are dealing with those problems.
I'm thankful my DH is such a sweetheart about it all, but the truth is, cancer affects every part of our lives, our health, our looks, family, relationships, sexlife, even our finances.
Don't hold back! You aren't going to FREAK US OUT!
Blessings
Paula -
LOL - I wasn't freaked out but I may have added to any freaked-outedness (if there was any - but somehow I doubt there was). Let's face it, if we can get through our own personal cancer smackdowns I think we can handle sex talk - which reminds me of that older woman on cable television who has the sex talk show. Sue Johanson?? I think she might be Canadian?
Yup. I remembered right. Sue Johanson.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sue_Johanson
And as an aside Judaday, one section, actually TWO sections, of my BS's pre-op folder discussed sexual relations following surgery - so there's that...
P.S. And if we can't discuss it here - where can we discuss it? Right?
-
Steiner, that's pretty wild about patterned ankles!
Have you ever heard of the word "cankles?" I never had until I started posting at a crazy message board several years ago. I think it's one of those urban dictionary kind of things.
Oh, and speaking of the wonders of cancer/chemo - no surprise here - one night post-first chemo and my face is up to no good. I've had acne since I was a kid and I sure thought that one of these days I'd be free of it but no such luck.
This morning my husband noticed that my cheeks looked red. I took a closer look about an hour later and sure enough - pimples popping out on my cheeks. Right now I have some antibacterial soap sitting on my face for a few minutes and my next move will be to use the Clarisonic brush on it which might be too harsh...
-
Bren58 - Thank you, you're so sweet
But writting gives me time to check the spelling (not always) and sometimes write a sentence in a hole different way when I can't remember some word. Speaking is a hole different thing...
I'm on day 8 since first AC, still have my hair but it's allready looking weird. Acne is making it's appearence around my face, like a beautifull polka-dot (matching Steiner18 socks) frame. I even have some pimples on my scalp. Niiiice
Judaday - I wasn't freaked!! Sorry if I gave that impression, I was joking about my sexless existence
-
Lee, I got flushed the first day after tx too. My face and chest were red. I haven't had any acne on my face, but after the 1st tx I got little red bumps allover my chest. Don't have them this time. I think now my body was ready for round two like "what's up?!" LOL
Anyone else on TCH combo having stinging in hands/feet? I noticed last night when I was falling asleep that my hands were having shooting, stabbing pains in my fingers. I was almost asleep actually, and it woke me up! I hope it's not the start of neuropathy.
-
Holy hair - I just clogged the damn drain!!!! I think I can get another 2-3 days out of it before it's time to buzz. Oh my poor face....freaking acne are you kidding me?!?!?!?
Lee - any cheese except for the stinky cheeses like blue cheese, Gorgonzola and swiss. I love chedder, jack, gouda, munster, fontina, motz, prov....love it!
-
jenjen, I love cheese too! Including blue cheese
too bad the stuff is so dang fattening. I'm shocked at how much hair keeps coming out when I shower with a buzzed head. My hands get covered with it! It's amazing how much hair we actually have on our heads, you don't really realize it until it starts (and KEEPS) falling out.
-
Ok i can't believe all of the side effects - amazing what our bodies are going through ......how is your weight loss or gain? Can I really be up 6 pounds in a week since chemo? Is that really from bad eating?
This sucks - i feel so ugly and now FAT! ugh ugh - just have to laugh!
-
Good morning ladies. Have had a very content morning watching our new kitten Annie prance around the living room amazed at everything she runs into. Both my college age daughters are home asleep in their beds. The coffee is good and my taste buds approved of the pear I had. So right now for this moment I am content. Take that cancer and chemo and all your SEs!
-
Runnergirl ~ Do you take steroids with your chemo? I was up 5 pounds about 4 days after chemo and it really felt like water weight to me. It came off over the next 3 days (I could tell that I was consistently peeing more than I was drinking for a few days -- especially in the middle of the night). Then 3 more pounds came off in the next 3 days which kind of alarmed me. Yesterday I was conscious to make sure I was drinking a lot and eating enough protein and this morning I'm up a pound from yesterday. I'm definitely having more weight yo-yoing than is normal, but too early (8 days out from chemo round 1) to see what the overall trend line will be.
TGIF! Back to work this week has been okay but I am definitely more tired than normal.
-
Runner - some of that weight might be fluid retention. I was up a few lbs the week after each tx, then about day 10 or so I was back down again.
Gwen - Glad you are feeling good. I used to love it when my kids were home from college and the house felt "full". Now they are both married and off on their own and it is just DH and myself.
I am sorry for all you having acne issues. Hopefully it will clear up soon.
I still have stubble on my head, hair on my arms and have managed to hold onto my brows and lashes so far. I wonder if it will all go after tx 3 next week.
-
Gwen - Let's see that kitten! I think she will be great for you, and am I little envious even though I have 2 cats and 2 dogs already.
-
Nicole~It's definitely the steroids that's making your weight fluctuate. It does cause fluid retention, then after a couple of days of being off of them we pee constantly. That's the steroids leaving our system.
I also think weight is affected because we are just looking for different foods that we can actually taste. Then the tastebuds come back and our eating goes back to normal.
I also have a couple of days at the end of the cycle where I'm so danged cold. I stay bundled up and ride it out.
I haven't had acne. I buzzed my hair last Thursday, the day before chemo #2. The stubble seems to be hanging on. I really dread having 2 more ACs, but I'll make it. We all will.
Blessings
Paula -
Dang you ladies are brave to be getting on those scales - no way, I don't want to know what's going on there. It's bad enough I get weighed at each visit of every doctor.
Regarding hair loss...this is kinda weird...but I haven't had to shave my armpit hair in 3 days. I guess that's where it's starting.
-
Hello Ladies,
Curious if anyone was dealing with thrush? I have finished 4 rounds of A/C and Nuelesta and have done fairly well with everything. I feel as if in the past week I have hit THE WALL. I am tired, achy and the thrush in my mouth just doesn't seem to get any better. My dr has me on nystatin swish and swallow. I really thought I was doing so well and now I am feeling pretty low. I start my 4 rounds of Taxol next week and to be honest I am a little worried about that as well. I keep hearing about the nueropathy and that is scary. Funny I thought the hair thing would be the worst part but it really doesn't bother me too much. Does anyone suffer from indention from their wig liner? It really bothers me to wear the wig for any time now because I end up with such an indention on my head from the wig liner. If I don't wear the liner the wig slips.

Friend gwen just loved reading about your new kitty and girls home from college . My son is 17 and a senior in hs and is off on a road tip with friends to see u of Arizona in Tucson . Hers been accepted at Washington state and univ of nev Reno - such an exciting time . I a so blessed I have friends that are helping me get places to tour campuses - honestly I don't know what I would do without the good girlfriends I have - 3 in my bicycling club have had bc and have been incredibly supportive .
Wow I had a rough evening - I went for nice walk around my health club and then my friend and I jumped in this jacuzzi there . Not sure ,that was the best thing to do - but I had a 100.5 temp last night - got it down with come tylenol, and now it is 99,5 upon waking . I have significant tenderness in my uterus and ovaries - only other part that is hurting is a soar gum around a back tooth. I am wondering if I have an infection ? I am calling the onco office shortly and wil. Let u ladies know . It was awful - all I cold do lat night was keep rocking myself.
Regarding acne -or red bumps my onco called in a precription for something called clarasin - not sure if it will work any better than then bezolperoxide I stole from my son - but will give it a try .
All in all the se's I have had we're not those I expected - weird how our bodies react differently .
The UCLA research favors the TC regime . They even have a website where u can look,ip he clinical trials and even see videos of dr's speeches ,. If anyone wants the link - let me know at my email - scole@metroform.com
Hope this is a better day for all . If my temp goes down I am definitely getting the pixie cut - wich I can spike and bleaching it platinum blonde - always Wanted to try that hair color,- I am mousy brown and short hair on me in that color is not attractive . All post a pic -
thanks everyone for all your support!!!! I signed up for the "look good, feel better", program, I am going on the 8th. they are having a session right in my hometown, so I am excited about that, since I drive an hour to my doctor and the next session there is three days after my next treatment, so this will be much better...
so my husband shaved my head on day 14 (or maybe 15) and since then I have not lost any hair at all, none of my short hair(gi Jane stubble hair), no arm hair, no more lashes (they had thinned a bit) no brows... has anyone else had this happen???? in fact I was looking in the mirror and I noticed a longer hair behind my ear, and I went to pull it out, and I will be damn, but I could not get that thing to come out.... of course now that I said this, I will wake up tomorrow morning with no hair on my face or arms... yikes!!!!!
anyway, I feel pretty good today, the lightheadedness seems a bit better, and water tastes like water... that is always a good thing...
have a good day ladies!!!! -
Judaday - Re the hair, I posted on the morning of my 15th day that my hair was hanging on. In the afternoon of the same day, it started coming out when I ran my hands through it!
-
my hair was falling out in hand fulls, so we shaved it,.... but since the shave, nothing... that was two weeks ago...
-
It will mine hurt alot again felt like pins stabbing my head used duct tape came out easy and pain less good luck.
-
Also had chemo today all is OK so far.
-
Jenjenl and Nicole - I felt like I gained 10 lbs on day 2, then felt like I was in the bathroom all night for the next few days. I am pretty much back to normal now, but no appetite at all which is highly unusual for me. Still eating because I know I need to. Nasty salty taste in my mouth all the time. Doing Biotene but it doesn't go away. Nose is starting to dry out.
Those doing TC my hair came out day 14 and over the next week lost all body hair except my brows and lashes. Once I had finished chemo, then my eyebrows fell out. I think I had a short buzz about 4 months after Chemo.
Have had a few good days, but get tired at weird times. Didn't walk the last couple of days, so right leg is a little swollen. Had to deal with some big issues at work, but at least it made me feel normal. I need to wash my wig and get it ready for next week.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. -
Sophiafred I love your description of your dream. The thoughts we have about our breasts now will never be the same and that feeds into our subconscious.
Mum asked me how I felt yesterday, I listed... Pissed off, ripped off, tired, grumpy, sore, angry, left out... Etc etc. today after a walk on the beach and a swim in the ocean I felt a lot better, and a bit of sunburn on my legs will be upping my vitamin d....
Does anyone hurt, like, it hurts my back and neck when people touch me. It feel like muscle pain but I haven't exercised, wondering if it's 'normal'.
It's day 7 now and I got cabin fever after my swim and ventured into town and met a friend for a coffee, I also wanted to scope out a barber in this holiday town as I know the shave is merely days away... I think I'm past the worst of the side effects and the view of the ocean and sound of the surf just meters from my bed is pure heaven.
I hope you are all having lovely days.
Xx kk -
kiwikid, that sounds exquisite (the sound of the surf just meters from your bed).
All those negative seashore ions will work wonders for you!
-

-
Welcome vas4554 -
I don't think anyone ever wants to find themselves here but if it happens, i.e. a breast cancer diagnosis, this is the best place to end up.
Glad to hear your testing has come back negative (I assume you mean nodes, etc.).
Do you have a chemo start date yet?
