Juxtafit
Hi all! I don't know if we have talked anout the Juxtafit before, but I am considering purchasing. Does anyone have any experience/feedback on this paricular device? Please give me your opinions - pros and cons! Thank you!

Nordy, I think it's Cookiegal who has one, so I hope she'll post her experience. I do too. I use them for flares but find I don't wear them regularly. The glove rots--just my opinion
--so I ordered regular day-time gloves in black to wear with it (the oversleeve on the Juxtafit is black).I sure wouldn't recommend them to anyone who wasn't experienced in wrapping, but that's a no-brainer for you. Every time you don them you adjust the fit, so if you don't have a good grasp of what gradient compression is and what it feels like this just seems like an accident waiting to happen.
I don't exercise in them because they're not easily washable. If your elbow area is a particular swelling problem that could be an issue. They have a removable strap at the elbow that provides extra flexibility, but of course if you remove it there's a gap there. Haven't been able to figure that one out. I don't have elbow swelling, but I don't want any either, so I wear the strap over the elbow area.
On the other hand, I find them fairly comfortable, and the adjustability is a major advantage in a flare or when my arm hurts. So I'm really glad I have them, I suspect they'll last really well, and even if they're bulkier than a regular daytime sleeve they're fairly flexible and very supportive. For women with a dependent arm or problems donning a regular sleeve they're a real prize. They can be day or night garments, which is a plus as well.
And finally, oddly enough I don't get funny looks or questions when I wear them like I sometimes do with regular day garments. I have no idea why. Maybe because they look more like a tennis elbow or carpal tunnel brace and less like a disastrous fashion mistake.
If you get one I'll be interested to know how you like it!
Be well!

Thanks Binney! I think I am looking at it more for some reprieve from wrapping every night. It really is for the birds! I do fine with my sleeves during the day, although since I have been in treatment they have me wrapped - and we all know how that has been going. Grrrrrrr. Anyway, I will let you know what I decide!

Nordy, I had ordered one because I thought it would be a " in between" for bandaging and sleeves. My fitter had never ordered one before and did so at my urging so I know it was not fit properly to begin with. That being said, I found it uncomfortable to wear. I do have forearm/elbow swelling, and if I would wear the removable piece it was very uncomfortable and if I didn't wear it, I swelled there. Neither I nor my LE therapist liked how it controlled the swelling and it sits in my closet as an expensive mistake. I AM NOT saying it's a bad product (although I agree with Binney, the glove is unwearable). If you have someone who is familiar with the product and can fit it correctly it may work very well. It just wasn't for me. (and for the record, I could have had it remade, but after using it a week, I realized it wasn't the salvation I was looking for. I now wear a elvarex glove and sleeve (daytime) a tribute ( nighttime) and bandage as necessary. By the way... I LOVE LOVE LOVE the juxta- fit gauntlet. I put it over my regular glove to add extra compression for the back of my hand when I need it. It's not custom, so it's pretty affordable ($37.00).

Gottalove - thank you! That is just the feedback I needed to hear!

Nordy, have you considered or tried a Solaris tribute for night wear? Getting my tribute changed my life. I had horrible hot flashes and would have to unwrap within an hour. With the tribute I could slip it off (and eventually back on) easily. They have since decreased significantly, but I still love my tribute. (not to mention, the actual act of wrapping at night when I was tired did nothing to help my cancer/LE crabbiness.) Good luck with whatever you decide.

Nordy, I got a second Tribute, with lots of input from Kathy Weatherly--and when I was with her at the board meeting, we were checking out the poor fit of the first attempt, and a PT who trains for Klose helped us and recommended I put a swell spot in the palm and wrap over the hand and forearm with a 6 cm short stretch.
And, while it's not as good as wrapping, it's quite close. And I've been using it to "spell" me a few times a week.
So, in some ideal world, I could just slip on my custom Tribute, but with the minor modifications, it works for my hand.
When I went to the NLN conference in Orlando, I picked up a jovipak book, and it stated that they were always meant to be wrapped over--news to me--but the jovipak just doesn't do my fingers.
My fingers are buried in the Tribute, and Kathy explained why they do that--to minimize trapping fluid at the tips and to allow them to create pressure across the fingers--and sometimes that is tough on my cuticles.
But, I'm sure glad to have an option here.

Hi just saw this.
I think it is a lot like wrapping.
Unfortunately for me, that just meant it didn't really work.
Almost all my swelling is upper, so both just seem to make things worse.
For someone with more normal LE it might be fine.
In theory I might try it on a plane. But maybe not.
I basically wear my day sleeve or a silverwave bi-lat at night.

I have a Juxta-Fit custom Essentials armsleeve recommended by my LE Specialist and I was fitted by a custom fitter. My insurance company paid for it - thank you to Medical Mutual of Ohio.
I never liked sleeves because they made my hand swell even with a gauntlet. I preferred to wrap when doing heavy work, gardening, flying or exercising, but that is so much work.
This is great and perfect for me. I know everyone is different. Any questions, PM me.
