    Hi Zohra,

I'm so sorry your mother has been diagnosed.  Where are you located?  Ask the doctor or the medical office staff if they can help you with some resources.  They should know about local resources that can help you with navigating the confusing and sometimes overwhelming treatment process, as well as hopefully give you some contacts for financial help.  If you know which medications she will need, ask the doctor if they have any samples.  Sometimes you can contact the medication manufacturers for reduced cost options.  Always ask if there are any generic options or different prescriptions that may be more cost effective, or bigger doses that you can split, for example.  Be sure to shop around before buying, as identical prescriptions can vary considerably from pharmacy to pharmacy.

Best of luck to you and your mom.  She's lucky to have your support!  Does she have a treatment plan in place yet?

    Great advice, thenewme.

In addition, Zohra, the main Breastcancer.org site has a section called Paying For Your Care, which gives lots of great tips for lowering medicing costs, help paying for living expenses, and what to do if you don't have insurance.

    Hope this helps!

    Zohra,

Go to www.patientresource.net  They have pages of financial help to go to under their breast cancer guide.  You may even be able to download it online.  I saw at least a dozen prescription expense help, especially for those not insured.

    needymeds.org

    pparx.org

    patientaccessnetwork.org

    copays.org

Drug manufacturers usually have patient assistance programs for indigent patients. Check them out.
