Starting chemo November 2012

found that beer and wine didnt taste too great anymore...sour...but gin and tonic or vodka and tonic or rye and caffeine free coke were ok...HAPPY NEW YEAR
-
Think my thrush has cleared up, but now my mouth tastes salty. Ugh.
-
Did anyone else not have a CT, bone scan, Pet Scan. I questioned my MO in the begining before chemo started and she said that she does not order them for early stage cancers. I'm not sure if I think of IIb as early or not. I am being treated at a major center so no excuses in that department.
I got into with my dh, which I hate, but I am an emotional nightmare on these steriods. He know's that and I know that, but I still feel bad. I need to focus more on being positive.
In other notes, I had AC four on Thursday, it's Monday. I am functioning again, not great, but this one really wiped me out. I haven't napped yet today, and got some stuff done around the house. DD's friend had to cancel the sleepover as she is sick, so I am trying to think of fun things to with the nine year old to celebrate new years.
May this year bring us all good health and a breast cancer free world.
-
I've not had any scans either. I'm not sure whether I want them or not...
-
I had pet scan, mri, bone scan wwo contrast., bone biopsy all before I began my chemo I am glad my onc ordred all that because I had mets to hip and went from a stage 2 to a 4. It also affected my chemo regime, instead of act I am getting taxol every weeknfor 12 weeks.
-
I'm stage one and they still ordered the CT, full body bone scan, MRIs and a sonogram. MO said I didn't need the PET scan since the others were clear. I'd be asking why not if you haven't had them. How do they know for certain otherwise?
-
Just finished my 2nd chemo and I feel pretty good!! Hope it stays this way. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! TO ALL MY FELLOW SURVIVORS. May 2013 be our year that they find a cure for our illnesses. Hugs to all
-
Happy New Year!! We are kicking cancers butt in 2013!!! Hugs and thank yous for your friendship and support. Each of you has a special spot in my heart.
-
Guess everyone has holiday burnout..I stayed on the couch most of today - after all we had a big night on New Years Eve - We dined on my Chicken soup which was soooo salty I had to dump it. Paw in his stocking and I in my cap had just settled down for a long winters nap - sound asleep by 10..No dancing, no dinner, no toast at midnight - just 2 old farts acting like 2 old farts!!! Today I threw out almost everything I made over the past few days because nothing tasted good...turkey, stuffed mushrooms, spinach dip, cannoli's etc (ate none of it) decided, I've become a lousy cook my taste buds are wasted - glad I didn't invite anyone over....I am going to order take out from now on. Don't know why I posted this because who really cares.
So how did all my friends spend NY Eve and NY Day - anyone have a good time...sure hope so....
Tomorrow I am going to have a positive post...promise..
-
Luvbugs - I'm pretty sure you haven't become a lousy cook. Blame it on the taste buds.
Our NYE and Day were pretty much the same. No energy! And nothing tastes good right now.
You have a right to a down day; you always do such a good job of pumping us up. Hoping you feel lots better soon.
-
Luvbugs, I've had a down day too! Tomorrow has to better right. And I am sure the food is fine it's just taste buds! No energy, weird chest pain. Ready for this to be over.
-
Lol luvbugs, I ordered out today and I thought I'd never order from there again but reading your post it must be the taste buds.lol.... Tomorrow is a full week of the yucks! last night i did venture out for a few hours to a friends party a few blocks away, I tried to get my husband and kids to go without me, it didn't work. I was decent, I medicated myself and I even sipped a glass of sangria. Whether I feel well or not its back to work for me tomorrow, my business has been closed since last Thursday, time to get back to work. happy & healthy new year to all of you! It's funny how last year I would say "happy, healthy, & prosperous" but this year prosperous just doesn't mean anything, healthy is key! Hugs to all!
-
MamaLuvBugs-Can you believe I'm still feeling fatigue from tx#3 on 12/14? I spent NYE sleeping away half the day. Woke up for a bit and watched the Times Square ball drop and conked out again at 12:30. Went out to lunch with big extended family today and everyone brought food over so I didn't have to cook tonight. Trying to rest up for last tx on Friday! Cannot wait! One recent SE...nose running constantly. Thought maybe I was developing allergies but finally figured out tonight that it's because I no longer have nose hairs! Isn't chemo lovely?
-
Tlym ~ It seems we have the same SEs, but I'm one tx behind you. So tired of being tired and think I have used more tissues since my tx on the 14th than I have in the past year! I'm scheduled for tx#3 on Friday just when I'm getting back to "normal." I didn't even watch the ball drop. My 3 yo grandson stayed up later than I did...
-
Yes girls, I can believe you are all soooo tired, so am I - they said each treatment we would be more fatiqued as the chemo builds up in our system... I had nose running last week but now I am getting nose bleeds when I blow - sinuses must be as dryed up like everything else...My fingertips are cracking from dryness too. Does anyone have good tastebuds? I Keep eating trying to find something that tastes good...all I got was more jiggle in my butt!!
tlym your last tx is Friday, my last is next Tues...yippie!!!! then the real exhaustion then the rebound, then the radiation begins - Anyone else starting Radiation end January beginning February? I have to see if there is a discussion board for that or I will start one..... OK girls, I'm going to get that cup of morning coffee..Chat soon
-
5Luvbugs- I said the same thing yesterday - I can't cook because nothing tast right. Had to keep getting DD to taste things as I seasoned them. No one complained so I guess it tasted okay. I sure as heck can't tell if anything taste right. My tongue is white so I'm using the baking soda/salt swish stuff more.
Looks like we all celebrated the new year the same - resting. Doctor put me on Neurontin for the neuropathy as well as the severe bone pain. It does help but Lord I feel drunk when I take it!! You should see me trying to walk around the house I'm slower than snail!!
-
So tell me does anyone else have stubble yet on their head? Mine feels like it is growing back...wondering if all of this is going to fall out too....I have 2 treatments left...1 next Monday and 1 3 weeks later...Got a fill on my TE today...think I am about to the size I want to be...bigger then I was before..
I too really miss my taste buds...nothing tastes anymore..and spicy stuff agrivates my heartburn..I too am very tired... -
Actually, I had a half decent NYE. I could eat, drink 2 glasses of champagne and went around 2am to bed. It's my second week after the 3rd chemo, so I start feeling a little better. Yesterday I was still nauseaus but everything stayed inside.
I made plans for meeting friends and going out the next days.
-
Paula, thank you for putting in words how I feel. I couldn't understand why it bothered me so much when people are telling me that I look good. But what you said is true. It minimizes what I'm going through.
-
Hi ladies, Happy New Year! Luvbugs, I did dress up in my little Santa's helper suit for new years, wore long wig over port side and did have wine in front of fire and candles and tree, Dh very appreciative. I'm numb everywhere so wifely duty. Aslep by 10. Best part of fatigue is finally sleeing through the night! Now DH is sick, oh well.
Politico and Macy and Michelle - I did have all those tests prior to chemo. Hard to read my path report to put down correct dx like you gals - I can read DCIS amd the size, 3.5 and Her-2/NEU, HER + and grade III, but no actual stage noted, my surgeon invented the procedure to only study one lymph gland and he was reluctant to give me a stage since he got it all out, probably a 2.
TxJunebugs, I rested after company left on S/M, then worked a ton yesterday.
New symptoms : Tearing, swollen eyes - goes great with runny nose. So much for working on computer today. And breaking out all over face! Anyone using acne med, or just waiting it out. Late for a steriod rection, right?
Luvbugs, Neuropathy was new this time but starting to come back since fingertips hurt to type. Sorry itls so bad for you.
Day 13 after round 3 of 6 TCH - my taste buds are starting to come back a little, peanut butter still the best thing, , tuna with balsamic, cottage cheese on sweet potato, smoothies with frozen strawberries, banana, yogurt and apple juice in Magic Bullet. Everything else tastes like sawdust still...
Must go fix DD's toilet and computer and convince her to go back to denist an hour away after her crown popped out again...life goes on...
xo

Hi ladies -
Agree with new symptoms reported - runny nose, watery eyes, and constant night sweats!
The muscle aches in arms and thighs are worse with this round and rolling into final treatment on Friday - can't wait! I've had this problem during all of #3.
Moving into rads hopefully end of January, so I'm in with a new thread.
New Years was a bust, had my first glass of wine - which was delicious - no bad taste buds with this. In bed by 10 and finally slept thru the night.
Toast to a happy and healthy new year to all!! -
Sickofpink, please post picture of you in your Santas helper outfit with long wig - want to see what you did that really made your husband sick - Good grief, you could have killed him!!!!! Men can't take too much of that good stuff without having a heart attack
Oh well, that would have been me a few years back but now, I'll keep my warm cozy pjs, hat and blanket, he won't even look for me under there
Now I'm going to get all those ingredients you mentioned plus blueberries and put them in my magic bullet for a yummy smoothie, it will also help my sore mouth... All Side effects seemed to last a lot longer this time...
Loafer agree with all your symptoms, which board did you join = we can go to rads together...
Eleni, I'm glad you got to go out and enjoy yourself for awhile...
Keetmom no hair growing back here - I don't think yours is either, maybe your roots are just feeling lumpy - give your scalp a gentle massage with baby shampoo .. or does it really look like hair?
Junebug, I went to dr last week because I was stumbling around = this too shall pass
My girlfriends just brought me a nice, soft, fluffy electric blanket - I turned it on, took off my shoes and my hair, jumped under the blanket and slept for an hour = its's the best gift I got this year...I'm gonna sleep good tonight...
-
5luvbugs...it is hair..but maybe it never all fell out...my head feels like legs after not shaving for a few weeks...do have one patch that forsure didn't fall out this just feels finer than that...
I love my electric throw..I am always under it!
-
Keetmom, I have some stubble too. I buzzed the sparse remaining hair on my head to about a 1/4 of an inch, and some of those little guys are still hanging in there after three rounds. I was putting my wig on with wig tape, so had shaved a patch of that sparse hair at either temple to make it easier - it made me look like a mental patient. I now have stubble in those shaved patches, so it is growing in. It hasn't come in more than as stubble and has been like that for a few weeks now, so I am not sure it is actually growing. But between the stubble and the few hairs that won't quit, it gives me hope for when it is time to regrow.
For those heading into the last round of their treatments, good luck!!! I am counting down the days to my last one - Wed Jan 16th so 13 days to go... and then on to radiation in early February for 6.5 weeks.
-
I'm having a really funky chemo fog day. I'm beginning to think, I'm not getting enough fluids to wash the toxins out. It's hard to drink enough when nothing has taste.
I did find that Taco Bells Mango Strawberry Fruitista is very fruity, flavorful, and refreshing, but we have snow and temps under 20, so I'm not going anywhere.
Blessings
Paula -
Paula get out the magic bullet or ninja and some fresh or frozen fruit you have - walla drink up girl..
Megan I'm done on the 8th and will be getting 6.5 weeks in Feb also...
Keetmom - Hair, stubble is better than nothing - I didn't think it would start growing back until after treatments ended.who knows
Ports is anyone having issues with their port - If I dare lift anything or try to do any exercise or even bend over to pick something up, it feels like it's going to come through my neck...I was told be very careful..
-
I had issues with pain around the port and radiating down my right arm after the second tx. They did a doppler to make sure I didn't have a clot and then a dye study. I was told it may be resting against a nerve and the two options are tolerate and treat the pain or replace the port. It has good blood return and no sign of infection. I only have two more rounds so I chose at this time to tolerate and treat. When it really hurts, I put both arms behind my back and stretch which relieves it a bit.
-
Thanks Mary I am trying that stretch as we speak..
-
Oh luvbugs, no pics of santa's helper! No evidence
I'm so happy for u gals nearing the end of this part but i will miss you! My last round is end of february so rads start mid march...
I was told the teary eues are from everywhere else (nose/mouth) being so dry - and to try eyedrops of tears, single serve if u can find them... Seems counterintuitive but is helping....
G 'night! -
Soteria 205
