    Hi Nurselele...

Usually, neoadjuvent therapy is given to shrink the tumor preparing it for a good path/surgical outcome. Many woman do have this done and many have great success with complete or almost complete responses....then you Doc might do more Chemo post surgery and/or radiation depending on your particular pathology diagnosis...feel free to ask anything, as I know this is a very nerve racking time for you..take care

One good thing about neoadjuvent chemo is that the onc can tell if it is working (shrinkage of tumour) and adjust treatment if needed. This is especially important for TNs as chemo is the only systemic therapy we have right now.

Hi to everyone on this site!

I too was just diagnosed with BC, TN, IDC, lympho muscular invasion noted, Grade 3, almost 4 centimeters.  I've interviewed two breast surgeons so far.  One wanted to do a mastectomy; the other chemo first then determine what is needed.  She also recommended a PET scan and MRI.  I went to oncologist who concurred with her.  I am scheduled for the PET scan on Wednesday, and I'm so nervous that it has metastasized, which would make me jump from a stage IIa to IV.  I also hope I come back negative on the BRCA test.  Any advice or feedback on what to expect from chemo (will I lose my hair, be sick, able to work?)  Has anyone had a pet scan and went from just a tumor to it spreading?  I'm so nervous!!!  Thanks, Lauren

My surgeon recommended chemo before surgery since one of the positives about being triple negative is that chemo works better on us than those who are positive. He said that after chemo when he does the surgery the tumors have shrunk so much it is hard for him to find them!

I started chemo on Dec 3. Most triple negatives get dose dense (every two weeks rather than three).
