Pinktober Revolution

That is so funny, Mini! I'm on board with you! When is testicular and prostate cancer awareness month? I move we decorate blue jock straps and wear them!!!
-
Mini and shells yes and take in the same type of statue thingys to the cancer center. See if they allow them to remain.
-
Just when we thought it was over at least for a year - and the pink merchandise has been discounted and discounted again, this pops up - it will never be over, it will follow us to our graves, literally. Pink Blazers for the funeral industry. aaarghh!!
-
I saw a pink BC walker today. Why am I not surprised?
-
Went and got my Tamoxifen refill today. The bottle cap is pink with a ribbon. Says "Early detection saves lives." Pfft, I don't wanna hear it.
-
Omg stormy.
The irony .......... -
That is just wrong.
-
On so many levels.
-
I thought this shit would be over by now.....it's Nov.and it's Pancreatic cancer month
WEAR PURPLE!!!!!!!!!!!! -
How would like it if your insurance company's message on your "statement of benefits" had a message about mammograms being an important tool for early detection for breast cancer? It started coming on our statements after my surgery and lasted for about four months. Yes, I was lucky that this was how my cancer was detected but it felt like a slap in the face every time I saw it! Oh the pinking of the disease. Not to minimize what we have been through, but there are so many other cancers out there that need research as well.
-
Oh Kathi I am thinking the powers that be are sacrificing sensitivity for the greater good...
???????
(She says gritting her teeth)
The cancer center/hospital I received my care has sent 2 solicitations for a donation......could I get to my year before asking. Wasn't even 3 months out of surgery.
Just shaking my head.
Maybe I'll give back someday but let me heal first. Ha ha -
When I receive those solicitation letters - I write a nice note on them saying that I am Stage IV BC on disability and would LOVE for them to let me know how to take advantage of those donations. Usually gets me off their mailing list very quickly.
-
I was diagnosed during foctober. I used to like pink. Now whenever I see it, I want to vomit! Bleck!
-
I made my "donation" for every wildly over-priced test, x-ray, 10 minute, $800 dr. visit. etc. But it's nice to know they are using some of the money to help make breast cancer patients aware of breast cancer (sarcasm implied).
I just read that some time in the near future they are going to ask men to grow moustaches for a month for prostate cancer awareness. Some airline is painting moustaches on their airplanes for it. I know several people that work in the industry that does custom jobs on aircraft and I can tell you that doing that to do even one plane is very expensive; I hope the co. is donating their usual fees. Will growing a moustache really bring any awareness? I guess as much as putting your bra color on FB does. sigh
-
Just found this out. Vera Bradley makes huge donations to BC. Seems a woman who worked for them died of the disease. They started a fund in her honor. You can check it out on their website. One pattern in particular is dedicated to BC. It is called....Ribbons...hugs
-
I started posting on the fb komen threads that they put up after each race. These people have no idea how little goes towards research
-
Vera Bradley had nothing to do with Komen. My daughter walked for years, till I found out the true facts and told her. She stopped that year. It cost her $2,000 in donations to be able to walk. A joke.
Vera Bradley is entirely different. Read their website. -
Gotta bring this thread back to life.
Now if I could only get this straight.
There are many sistas that hate pink right?
There is a thread(cannot remember which one but i will) that wants to change the color to RED!!!!
I would like some comments....
In my minds eye i can see the shirt i have on in bright RED!!!!
It says Focktober...just ask me.My DD has one that says STOP PIMPING THE PINK.
One of the sistas sells them and makes them.
-
I use stop pimpin' the pink a lot. Red ribbons are already being used for heart disease and AIDS awareness. Unfortunately, whatever the color someone will exploit it for their own purposes. I don't dislike pink as a color, just its exploitation. If anything it should be an ugly color. An ugly color for an ugly disease, not something pink and girly. Or maybe camoflage, to point out the way people hide behind a charity in the name of "awareness," and the way we, the ones with the disease, are relagated to the background. Susan Koman and the like have turned our voices into white noise.
-
Mini, well said. And you have a good point about the camoflage. Kudos! There is a web site that lets you know the color of the ribbon for certain diseases. I came upon it through Google.
-
Could we also just bombard the komen people letting them know howwe feel about theway they use the money.
-

-
I had a super mini rant on FB today! Short Sweet & to the Point! Some one I know had a major rant about being bombarded with those games about Bra Color & where you put your purse kind of games. She does not have BC but found the whole thing offensive on our behalf! So I responded with this......
As a Breast Cancer survivor I agree. There is NO Joke in Breast Cancer! But also so many are Aware these days. But do the MANY know we continue to have the same rate of deaths per year due to BC as we did 20 years ago! There is no cure yet! Just because we get diagnosed at an earlier stage doesn't mean that we won't die. It only gives a better chance!
Ms. Grannydukes I just wanted to also say Hi! I am wondering how everything is going???
-
I was just thinking of this page the other day and how I hadn't been here in awhile. I too had a mini rant the other day.
I had an eye doctor appt at the mall and to kill time I went into Rue 21. I was looking at some clearance t-shirts and saw several that were BC themed. Most weren't too bad. White with something to the effect of Live, Love, Cure, and things along that line in various colors; nothing obnoxiously BC/pink ribbon like a lot of them. Then I picked one up that had two strategically placed owls and the phrase "Save the Hooters." I was livid. I went to the sales clerk and told her that someone needs to tell their buyer that that t-shirt was beyond tacky and offensive. I told her I have breast cancer and saving the hooters is low on my list of priorities. I care about saving my life and a shirt with two owls where my hooters are supposed to be isn't going to do that. I also told her that I had planned on buying a few things but due to that disgusting shirt I would be buying NOTHING. Grrrr
-
They will never know the feeling until it gets them.......sorry that is my opinion, and Im'm sticking with it.......go through all the BC phases, and then tell me you see the humor in it all...
-
It will be a year next month that I was diagnosed (hard to believe) and I thought I had cried all my tears, so no one was more surprised than me to find tears in my eyes when I gave that sales clerk that shirt. And Ducky you are right, they won't know.
You know I have yet to see a Save the Gonads or Save the Boys for testicular cancer. Or Save your Ass for rectal cancer, or Save your Va-jay jay. But get breast cancer and your hooters, ta-tas, girls, etc., are on everything!
-
Min....I am approaching 2 years Feb. 15. You only think you have cried all the tears you could.....now, I don't cry because I have cancer......I cry because of what the things you must do to keep from dying of the disease, which beat the hell out of you physically....Just want back what I had, and I know it is not going to happen.....it takes its toll on the body, long after the first bit of bad news. I truly believe the beginning was easy......it's the aftermath that is hard.....but hang in there girlfriend, and always hope each day will be a better one.....and don't worry about those tears. Just think of it as a new way to wash your face, when it doesn't need it......hugs.
-
Ducky, thank you for your last post. I found myself wanting to cry for no reason a while back and when I saw my surgeon he reminded me that I had every right to be emotional because I had lost two body parts. I have been wondering what will happen when I hit the year mark. I follow several of the discussion boards and have learned so much from all the ladies here. My husband who was very supportive during diagnosis and surgery just doesn't understand the residual effect that breast cancer has on you. I'm so glad to read that what I am going through is normal.
