Any GTA Ladies Being Treated By Dr. Gapski in Mississauga?
He is my mom's onc and apparantly really great. He's very serious and have heard that some are put off by his to-the-point bedside manner, but we care more that he is thorough and knowledgable than a barrel of laughs! I have only met him once and am trying to get a better feel for how he operates.
My mom had stage 3 breast cancer over 11 years ago and has been doing great. A couple months back a sore shoulder led her to the hospital and a CT scan showed 3 suspicious bone lesions. The rollercoaster to find out if it's mets started over 6 weeks ago and we are still waiting. She has had multiple tests: ultrasound, lymph node biopsy (came back clear), bone scan and finally last week a bone biopsy. I read about all these oncs in the US giving their take on what scans "look like" and what they "think" is going on before results are in and this doesn't seem to be Dr. Gapski's style. From what I can tell he prefers to have the answers before he says anything, which is great...unless you're the anxious daughter who wants to know anything at all, like what he thinks it is based on the bone scan, etc.
His practice is closed until Jan. 6 for the holidays, but I can't imagine that he would leave her hanging so long, especially after calling her himself after-hours to tell her that the first biopsy didn't give any answers and that she'd need a bone biopsy. I guess what my question is for any of you who see him is whether or not he has been known to call with results when the office is closed? Or if he works out of the hospital (Trillium) on the days his office is closed for the holidays? It's been over a week since the bone biopsy and coming on week 7 of trying to figure out if her cancer is back and spreading. Waiting another week+ just seems unacceptable after all of the stress she's been through already.
Sorry for the sonnet -- I'm a talker!

I know you dont want to hear this but the chance the biopsy results are back in a week are very slim. i know the waiting is hard but you dont want them to rush pathology, too much is hinging on those results.
I have heard of this doc, but he sounds very thorough which you want. The waiting is really hard I know , it almost drove me crazy.
Hang in there

He's head of oncology so I'm not sure if that's why, but he was able to get the results of the first biopsy in 4 days even though the person performing the biopsy told us it would be 7 to 10 days. By the time his office opens on the 6th it will have been 17 days since the biopsy. I won't go into the details but there has been a lot of confusion and unnecessary frustration with this whole process -- not his fault. If you look up my other posts you will see what I mean. It's been one crazy and upsetting ride thanks to rude and misinformed doctors at ER and confused techs.

Sorry I meant to write I do not know him. It really depends what kind of biopsy and how detailed etc etc and how busy pathology department is maybe. Hope you can get things sorted soon
