Enlarged lymph node that hurts
Hi,
I wonder if anyone has a suggestion for me
I have been feeling something in my underarm (Cancer side) so I went to the doctor and she said that she felt an enlarged lymph node and sent me to do an ultrasound. The Ultrasound results showed that I have an enlarged lymph node, however does not appear to be anything. I am feeling pain in the area where the lymph node is, so I'm not sure if this is something I should be worried about?
Suggestions on what I should do next?
Thanks

Shelloz1, I know it is worrisome once you have BC, everything and anything raise concern. Infection in body can cause enlarge nodes as well, so perhaps check that out?
Good luck and let us know.

Shelloz,
The same thing is happening with me. I had an ultrasound done and there was nothing suspicious. But my oncologist said that if my symptoms don't imrove I should see the breast surgeon. I think at that point they may do a needle asperation biopsy. This has been going on for two weeks, so I will wait one more week and then press to see the surgeon.
Hope this helps,

I think a swollen lymph node in a cancer side armpit should be looked into thoroughly. I see that you are soooo very far from your initial cancer diagnosis!! What I would be concerned about is not a recurrence but a new primary starting at the lymph node or elsewhere. I would ask for a non-invasive MRI first and go from there. This will clarify that your breasts are clear and they will be able to see the lymph node in the MRI. I hope that your node issue goes away on its own and that you can go back to the non-worry world soon!

I think you should go to your surgeon and have it removed. I had a node in my neck that was feeling large and firm, but not sore, my oncologist thought it was nothing. My surgeon removed it under local anethesia, with just a couple stitches. In my case it turned out to be cancerous, but that doesn't mean it will be your case. Nodes can be swollen from infections. Best way to be certain is to have it removed and checked. It's probably nothing serious.
Sending you hugs and best wishes, I know how you must be feeling.

CANCEROUS NODES ARE USUALLY HARD AND PAINLESS. YOURS HURT WHICH IS GOOD, IS IT SOFT OR HARD? YOU MAY HAVE HAD A SMALL CUT EVEN WHEN SHAVING YOUR ARMPIT AND THE NODE IS REACTIVE. BUT STILL CHECK IT OUT AND INSIST ON FOLLOW UP

Fifth year,
is everything okay?
I'm waiting on news of lymph nodes too. I have lightly thickened, slightly irregular cortices, picked up only on ultrasound. MRI says I have 2 small intramammary lymph nodes. I'm not sure if they are the same thing, but I don't have a doc apt. Until the 15th which seems like a long way away.
Anyway, how are you?
Blessings, Blubelle
