Hi Ladies,
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas

It's been a full on 4 days for me , glad I'm finally sitting down to read what has been going on.
Benny oh dear Benny...thank goodness for the Neulasta shot...just keep that temp down....normally 7-10 days my onc says that we are more prone to infection and/or high temp.....as you're having codeine and keeping the temp normal, its good.....so long as it's working for everything else too ... hope to hear that you can drop the codeine soon so that you can get a good 2 weeks before your next chemo.
Edi, sounds like a wonderful christmas, god bless that GD of yours "bye bye papa" and you all thought you had her fooled....lol.....too cute:)
DS has been spoiled to bits....again today at his party...it was a success, made pizza dough from scratch and was a hit....little mini quiches and all...... I had that much food I've told DH not to ask whats for dinner tomorrow night because the fridge is full of leftovers

My feet are thanking me for sitting down and putting them up and relaxing ,... FINALLY......its been a great 4 days though I'm kinda glad its all over and lets get ready for NYE...lol (even if that means 2nd Jan is anear for my chemo!)
-
Traii, glad you had good xmas, DS party sounds great. My GD is sharp as a tack but she does believe that there is a real santa out there. She got build a bear with wardrobe full of little clothese and sits dressing him up all day while her Mum and Dad play with her other toys and games lol.
Are you on CMF on the 2nd ? I need a blow by blow report if you are please. Sleep well.
Edi xx
-
Lol Edi I think Im having more fun with Ds things too!!
CMF on the 2nd...hope SEs are NOTHING like Taxotere...when you starting CMF? -
Traii, glad you are having fun lol.
Last epirubicin on the 8th, think CMF starts 29th.
Looked up SE's on Macmillan site, they really don't look half as bad as Tax :-). Look not unlike se's of my present one with maybe no hair loss.It ain't no walk in the park but usually only for a week, worst one is the peeing bleach, cracked that with antibiotics, baking soda baths and nappy rash cream Yay.
Off to beddy byes, hope you have another fun packed day. X
-
Edi, hope you have a good sleep

I was looking up the SE's too as I've misplaced the sheet my onc gave me (naughty girl I am)..whoops.....and they do look a lot better than Tax.....well fingers crossed anyeay.....my hands are peeling today where they looked 'burnt' the other week.....actually looks like sun burn peel....lol funny in the spot they are in !!
31 degrees no sun out but hot ! waiting for DS to get up to go to my auntys pool......just cleaned the house and did the floors as they were yuck from yesterdays party but now think i may have a little arvo siesta until DS wakes....xx
-
Hi all,
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas,
Benny I hope your throat feels better soon, you are a warrior and you will get through this.
Edi, my GD have all come down with the flu, I am hoping I haven't caught the bug...saw them yesterday.
Websister I hope you had a safe drive to British Columbia and some nice family time with your brother.
I think we should all have a reunion one year from now and say how we are doing...how long our hair is and how we have moved on from breast cancer....how we are warriors and survivors.
I have my herceptin tomorrow so off to the clinic...again!...oh well it is saving my life!
Have a great day everyone, feel well.. -
Traii< had really good sleep thanks, 9 hours ! just get up to pee every two hours TMI, getting used to it DH says just put bucket by the bed lol.
Hope you got your nap before DS awoke, day at pool sounds fantastic, weather here not to bad, bit damp about 9 deg but very bearable.
Got friends coming tomorrow, need to clean this hell hole, where do I start ?
Sure peeling skin not an SE so that will be a relief for you :-) x
Bearcub, hope you had a happy time, it was lovely, but nice to get back to normality.
My GD still puking, she came Xmas day as her Mum said she was better. She was not herself at all. Her Mum is going to the Docs today and insisting on some kind of medication. Hope your little ones over flu soon and you don't get it. Good luck with Herceptin, how long you on that for and does it have SE's ?
Reunion a year from now sounds wonderful, looking forward to it. x
Benny, Update please, worried about you x

Benny, I am suffering right along with you, the sore throat is really awful this time around. It's especially bad when I wake up, not sure why! Maybe because I've also had a stuffy nose (blaming the chemo for that too, it's been there for weeks and never progresses to a full-blown cold) so probably I'm breathing through my mouth when I fall asleep. Which makes the throat horribly dry & painful. So I doze a few hours, wake up in pain, etc. I found that sipping eggnog helps. One of the few things that still tastes good, and I guess it's nice and thick so it coats your throat, or something. Also tea, but let it cool down more than usual first. My sore mouth is quite sensitive to hot things. Tried the Biotene mouth rinse, but it was too minty and that hurt. Maybe in a few days.
-
Oh Jennie, I can so relate. My sore throat issues seem to have moved into my lungs this morning. I woke up at 0200 with pain in chest. Took codeine, to no avail. Still no temp tho', just hard to breathe with a nagging non-productive cough. I am so tired of feeling/being sick. I've got the Dr Akabutus mouthwash but it doesn't help my lungs, just the mouth/throat, which isn't the biggest issue anymore. Can you get your hands on that Akabutus mouthwash? It might help. The Akabutus mouthwash is a prescription and they have to compound it. It does provide temporary relief.
Edi, please keep GD hydrated. I'm sure they will. Poor little thing.
Bearcub, get-together sounds great, if I can just get through this. I feel defeated (again). There's no way I can keep going through this, especially if the effects are cumulative.
Going back to bed (it's 0420)
-
Benny, this time around I can relate to you, I haven't had the sore throat bit I must admit, but I have the chesty cough that comes and goes, sometimes the cough is wet (tmi sorry)!! or sometimes its just a tickle, sometimes I find it a little harder to breath ..... Its not all the time but its there and its horrible......you can do this girl...... be strong.....we are doing it together all of us are ....
Hope you are back in bed and getting some shut eye hunni.
Good idea Edi, putting a bucket near your bed, lol,.... just wear a nappy it's easier...lol.....love to see that one .! ha ha
-
Oh girls I am sorry u don't feel well. Things do get strange. I got acut on my finger which turned into an infection and swollen lymphnodes in my nodes side. Dr put me on antibiotic. One little cut. I just don't heal the same.
Edi- more time in the loo !!! Oh no
I am so up for a reunion. -
Oh Edi, I missed the part where you were ailing; thought it was just GD and you were okay. I'm sorry. I actually typed out THIS TOO SHALL PASS in giant bold font and printed it off and taped it beside my computer. It can't last forever, right?
Traii, I feel for you. This is awful. Since yesterday it has moved into my lung even deeper. Still temp is only 36.2 so I'm trying to stay positive. Also have a head cold with 'colorful drippings' (TMI!)
Am up to take Symbicort, prevacid, and more water. If the bloody temperature outside would just wram up I could at least stop running the furnace at full tilt. It's been -24 for over a week now and my furnace is just blowing hot air around. It doesn't help. It's supposed to warm up today but I'll believe it when I see it. The Alberta weathermen should be fired for misrepresentation.
-
Dakota, sorry to hear about your cut turning nasty, I am terrified of anything like that. Was your xmas good ? x
Traii, the nappy sounds good lol, along with the bright green chemo cap fluffy bed sox and pj's defo goddess look. Our fire broke today and luckily dear friend, ex gas fitter here at mo trying to fix it. will be wrapped in a blanket if he doesn't.x
Jennie, Sorry to hear you are sore too like Benny, hope it eases soon.Egg nog sounds like it might help her too. Hope you improve soon. x
Benny, sorry to hear things not a lot better, I am totally knackered this time, mid afternoon just crash, after an hour or so feel lots better. Then bed early think the tiredness is defo cumulative.
GD been checked from head to toe and Doc says nothing serious thank goodness. Think she has just had so many bugs lately it has floored her.
Try that egg nog Benny, sounds soothing. Thinking of you.x

A reunion on the boards of course as we all live countries apart...Benny you will get this done you now have done 2..diamond and Benny need you. Better this is going on during winter...who wants to be outside with the cold winter weather...spring will get here soon and chemo will be done.
...Jennie, Traii and Dakota I hope you all start to feel better real soon.
Edi I hope you managed to get things done before the company came!
Happy Thursday everyone! -
Just a quick check-in
We're back from spending Christmas with my son and his family in BC, lovely time. Temperature going up to -13C today and -2C tomorrow. Going to take it easy today and just putter around the house, tomorrow I am going for lunch with several wonderful ladies I know.
Edi - hope those antibiotics kick in soon for you and GD gets over the GI bug
Traii - hope you did get that nap in, the pool sounds lovely
Dakota - glad you were on top of that cut and got on antibiotics
Benny - Weather should allow for a visit to the farm this weekend for you, hope your health cooperates
Bearcub - a reunion on the boards sounds good but wouldn't it be amazing to be able to get together for real?
At the moment Traii's aunts' pool sounds appealing, as does the weather in Australia.
Take care everyone -
Benny, I am not that bad just freaking urinary infection :-( the only thing passing is pee like bleach TMI lol. We HAVE all got to beat the bitch and Australia sounds ideal for a party.
Hope your weather improves enough for a little outing soon for you clean fresh air may help you. Our friend has fixed our fire Yay !! X
Bearcub, everywhere clean and tidy, bring on the company. x
Websister, glad you had a good time, just relax before next lot of fun. Did Mum have a good xmas ? x
-
Bearcub isn't that the truth. If there can be luck in the mess of cancer/chemo. I went thru it in summer and let me tell you all the head covers and elevated body temp with hot flashes soaking my sheets slammed in to menopause at 41 was awful I would sweat like a beast if I had a wig or hat or both on. I actually wished I could have gone thru it in the winter. I wanted to enjoy the summer sun, I love summer, I hibernate in winter, but I never felt really quite good enough to want to be out in the sun. Of course if you are cold and cannot get warm that would stink and I luckily did not face that!
So if it makes you all feel better today I have a HORRID sore throat. I think it is sympathy pain for all you gals!!!! Actually I think there are so many winter bugs and I now have one. Let me tell you how fun it is when I cough! I had a 7hr surgery 13 days ago for my reconstruction and they did a number on my tummy. I have an incision that encircles my entire torso, yep goes all the way around my body like a belt and the tightened all the tummy muscles so everytime I cough well if you have had a c-section or abdominal surgery and coughed you can imagine.......
This too shall pass. Hang in there Benny. I think the tough part of going thru this in winter is your immunity is down you have never had chemo before so if you catch a bug it is hard to know if everything you feel is chemo induced or could be the lovely addition of cold/flu bug. I am SUPER encouraged you have no fever this time and I know it is uncomfortable, but you ARE doing it, you ARE getting thru it!
Hugs
Lesley
-
Lesleyanne, so sorry you have a sore throat. Have you got gargle of some sort? Maybe it is sympathy pains for us ♥
My throat has eased up now but the pain in my lower respiratory system is really bad. My back is aching from me trying to breathe and it shows no sign of going away. Can I have a lower respiratory infection with no fever? I still have no temp, unless the thermometer is wrong. I cannot even walk to the bathroom without feeling faint. When oh when will this end? I'm supposed to be taking friends on a tour of the horse farm on Saturday but I don't see that happening if I can't even make it to the bathroom? Is this normal? Is this mucositis? Or are my lungs shutting down ? That's what it feels like.
-
Hi Everyone, just checking in. So sorry for every ones SE I start Chemo on the 11th. Went to my Chemo class yesterday and really didn't find out anything new. You have all given me so much information.
I am still thinking about getting a second opinion. My husband says that will just confuse me more if they don't agree but this is making me crazy. I just am not sure what to do.
Hope things get better for everyone..
Carla
-
Oh Carla, good to hear from you. I don't know what your insurance situation is, and this may be a crazy idea, but why not get a second opinion and if it DOES confuse the situation, get a third? I would worry that it's making you crazy and you really need to be feeling confidant when you go into chemo, or at least that has been my experience.
-
Benny - Glad the throat is better. Sounds like time to call the hot line again esp. the faintness. I don't know symptoms of mucositis. I think alternate plans for touring the horse farm are in order for Saturday. Any way you can check the thermometer? Do you feel like you have a fever?
-
Well, I just tried to take Benny's temperature with it (axilla) but he wouldn't let me. My temp does vary throughout the day. It is a digital thermometer and I bought it brand new specifically for the chemo, so it's only a month old. I know I have the weakness again like I did the last time so maybe that is the faintness? I can't stand for very long. I've already had 3 litres of water today so I am doing everything I can here. I do not feel feverish, just very weak with lung pain (seems to be right side mostly). The girls will be so disappointed about the horse farm tour. They are in town for this weekend only and have been planning this since last year (they're both away at university). I will call the hotline. I'm sure they're at the point now where they say "It's bennymuffins again!"
-
Benny
I am sorry u feel so badly. Wish I could come over and help u.
Not much going on here. Hanging out with my son while he plays video hockey. Hockey really never ends. Lol
Hang in there warrior sisters. 😃😃we got this -
Benny, so sweet of you to respond to me when you are having such issues of your own. I wish there was something I could do to help you! Just know you are in my thoughts and prayers.. I am researching SE's to try and find out what might help you.
Thinking of everyone! I agree with Dakota.... We got this!
Love you all,
Carla
-
Benny< are you eating ? low blood sugar will make you faint and weak, has the temperature outside improved any ?
Would think chances of your thermometer being wrong pretty remote. It is all good with that at least. Ring helpline that is what they are there for !!
Your body won't get any energy unless you put fuel in, lots of water very good, but warm sweet tea as well, hope lung pain eases. x
Dakota, glad u r ok. x
Carla, get as many opinions as you like but only you can decide which path to go down, chemo isn't easy but giving birth wasn't either and we went ahead and did it anyway, lol.My thoughts are with you, once you are decided we will all be there for you x
Bearcub, hope you are ok ? x
Lesleyann, sorry to hear about your throat, hope it has eased by now x
Websister, hope your get together goes well. x
((( Hugs ))) to everyone else.

Edi, I am averaging two bowls of cereal and a bowl of mashed potatoes daily. I weighed myself this morning.... 124.5 lbs. When I started this whole miserable endeavour I weighed 154 lbs. It's hard to eat when my intestines are raw. I know the oncologist talked to me last time about this and he may recommend a feeding tube. A feeding tube. Could this get any worse? I don't understand why I have such difficulty with chemo? I know it's tough but it seems to me my path has been considerably worse than every one else's. I am again at the point where I'm wondering if it's worth it or should I just quit chemo and take my chances. At least the remaining time I would have would be a better quality of life. I have ZERO quality of life now. My back and sides are aching this morning from coughing so hard for the past 3 days. Every day it's a new pain/ailment on top of the existing ones, which never seem to go away.
The emerg line never called back so I will call them again this morning.
Sorry for the poor attitude this morning but when the oncologist tells me that he has to reduce the chemo and recommend a feeding tube, I know it's not just 'in my head'.
-
Oh Benny Im sorry u are feeling this way...chemos not pretty for most of us....im coughing and my back and sides and head hurt when i do

Is your throat heaps better now?
With the eating is it just because you're not hungry or is it sore tummy that causes you to have to eat small soft amounts of food?
Are you able to blend some veggies together or make a yummy veggie soup to get those vitamins in you?
I cant believe emergency line didnt call u back...is that your hospitals emeegency number you are calling??
Please dont give up Benny you can get through this and you are allowed to vent to us...better to vent than let it all build up hun. This is what we are here for, to help eachother get through all this! -
Traii, the throat is not as bad but the constant coughing doesn't help. It's a heaving non-productive cough, quite intense and relentless. I was going to see if my friend could pick me up some fresh veggies and soup today and make a puree for myself. I am eating that diet because my stomach is too raw to manage anything else. I pay a seriously painful price when I try to eat more. It's not that my appetite is lacking.... I am craving REAL food so bad, but system just can't handle it. So my digestive system isn't working, my lungs aren't working properly. Basic functions like eating and breathing are a challenge. It's day 10 and I am showing no signs of improvement. Again.
The emerg line must be a very busy center because there was one other time they didn't phone back for 5 hours and I finally placed a second call. There's a 'day line' and the oncall evening line. I will call the day line this morning. They will for sure call me back.
Thanks for listening.....

Hello Bennymuffins and ladies
I am sorry to hear of what you are going through re chemo.
From March-August 2012 I did 4 x FEC and 4 x Taxotere, so I know what it's like!
Neutropenia, peeling skin, blod clots, high temperature. You name it. I got the side-effects. Neulasta (didn't work for me) then Neupogen shots and Tinzaparin (anticoagulant) helped to treat these.
However, the good news is that it does end and may even seem like a distant memory quite soon after finishing!
My oncologist reduced my dose of Taxotere to 80%, which stopped all the side-effects. In fact, after that, I thought of Taxotere as a pussy cat rather than a tiger!
Bennymuffins: if it worked for me, maybe it could work for you.
Cycles 4-6 made me feel at my lowest but the end was in sight!
A month after chemo finished, I felt like a new and improved version.
Hopefully you will all too!
Good luck with this challenge.
Alice
-
Benny, we know it isn't in your head. Your poor body is being ravaged by chemicals which are obviously having a dreadful effect on your internal organs . Like Alice says hopefully it will all be a distant memory for us all.
Glad you are eating something, you must miss tasty food. If it plays havoc once swallowed that makes sense that you can't face anything else. I just worry about you as do we all, hope you don't think I am nagging just have this picture of you in my head which makes me want to come and look after you.My kids think I am a pain as I do this to them as well.
My lovely cousin has just collapsed in the middle of her third chemo of a new regime, they have now got to review and maybe change it. She is so upset.
My se's have subsided a bit day 10, I have lost such a lot of weight too but have been told quite normal due to chemo. You have also had that dreadful bug which would have made any of us lose weight.
Hope tomorrow is a better day X
