So...whats for dinner?

MIchelle, that's a great outfit.
It sounds like the chemo went smoothly..I'm hoping the chemo's side effects are also smooth.
-
Michelle, LOVE your hair AND the PJs. Your DGD is totally precious. What an adorable photo! Yay for your chemo session being fast......and, of course, effective and gentle!

Laurie, that is the best gift!! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! After having the two babies here, I can totally appreciate how wonderful this rejuvenating time with DH will be for you both.
I also did the solo child care sans family support or time away, so know how precious a gift this is. That was many years ago and when time-share marketing was at its peak. One weekend, after a long rainy week in the house, and having gone three years with no vacations, DH and I decided to respond to THREE time-share offers on the Cape. We impulsively (lured by watching our one year old playing at the bay water's edge)bought one to force ourselves to get away...and have used our July week in P-town every single year since....that was in 1981! A good desperation impulse buy...:)
This morning, before dawn, DH and I arrived at the surgi-center with high hopes that he could get that second cataract done. They were able to give him something to suppress the cough, and got the procedure done successfully. Phew! We got home before 9AM and both crashed until 1PM!
Now it's time to take his patch off....
I loved the efficiency of having this done at the surgi-center.... -
Love the photos, Michelle! Especially after spending so many hours with The Christmas Story on in the background (my husband insists!).
-
Laurie, enjoy your getaway! I am sure you will.
Lacey, glad they were able to take care of the cataract for you DH. I hope recovery is smooth.
Bedo, your Christmas sounds nice and cozy! I am glad you enjoyed each other's company.
Deb, I am jealous of your DD. What a great place to live. Love the picture.
Michelle, love that movie and love the picture. I am glad the chemo was fast, hope it's easya and effective too. (((hugs)))
I am at work doing inventory. Yuck! I am so busy every year at this time. I hate it. Oh, well, better get back to work and get it done. At least I am enjoying reading about everyone's Christmas.
-
Good luck with impending snow storms, northerners!
Hope everyone near that southern twister stayed out of harms way.
DH doing really well.
Thanks everyone for your well wishes.
We are enjoying a lovely, lazy, do nothing day. -
Well the winter weather forecasted for tonight and tomorrow has begun in earnest in Central NY.... To all of the Northeaster's... Stay safe...
Carole,
Did you guys make out OK yesterday? Seems like this storm was pretty bad down your way....
Welcome back Debbie! We missed you! Hope Chuck's appts went well and that you had a nice visit with your Dad! -
Michelle: those pictures are priceless - what a hoot.
Hugs and best wishes for everyone. Turkey carcass bubbling in the soup pot. Think I will also make some turkey chilli - never tried a white chillie before.
-
Ok, finally got it to work. My daughter and her new Fiance! -
Sorry two more pics- first family pic is from my daughters visit in Sept.

-
Now this one is MUCH better, even though it was taken after my DMIL funeral!

-
Love those Jammies. Did you have a flap in the back? LOL
DD said people were even swimming, it was 70 degrees. Right now they are on their way to Las Vegas for her birthday. What a a life.
-
Lacey - please send our best wishes to your DH. I know cataract surgery is usually not a big deal but any surgery has its risks. I hope he has an uneventful healing.
Thanks everyone! My family has quite the sense of humor!
-
Great photos, Moonflwr!
-
Sorry, one more photo I wanted to include, I talked about Mr Catapillar from 1989 crafting session. Not bad for a twenty three year old! LOL

-
Moon,
Congrats to your daughter and her new fiance!! Really great pics of the family too!! -
DD & SIL are stuck in Philly due to the storm.
-
Red Baron's pizza tonight. Feel like crap, sneezing and it hurts when I cough. Trip to the drug store tomorrow after clean up after the storm. Most of the storm is suppose to hit during he night 3 to 6 inches.

-
For Michelle:

No doctors. Sick as a dog... bagged all the Graves meds. Will get a full blood panel tomorrow. Then I need to find a second opinion. Have almost no memory of the past two days. I hear the food was good. Didn't eat anything though.

Seaside, we were fortunate enough not to have violent weather yesterday. Some wind and rain but no tornadoes. Thanks for asking.
Christmas is over. Packed away the tree and decorations and have the house back in order.
Tomorrow is my mother's 90th birthday! DH and I and one of my sisters will go out to lunch with her to celebrate. She always gets Christmas and birthday presents on Christmas day so she was busy opening presents yesterday.
Have enjoyed everyone's posts and responded mentally to each.
-
After spending hours reading all the pages of post I forgot what I wanted to say, wish I had a photogenic memory!
We had a nice time away even with all the dr appointments we managed to have fun too met some friends who had to travel to Portland to and had a nice dinner out, then my nephew gave us tickets to see the blazers play we got a nice suite it was really nice but not as nice the "nike shoe" next to us that thing was gigantic, great food and drinks although I only drank water and soda since Im the DD now. Then we drove to see my dad and had a wonderful time with him and the rest of the family we left on Christmas eve because the weather had been so bad we fought snow, sleet, hail, heavy rain, and lightning driving for the last 11 days and that was the only day that was going to be decent a good thing we left when we did because they got snowed in right after we left. Sounds like everyone had a nice christmas and everyones food sounded amazing. We just slept most the day yesterday and didn't make anything special ( steak and green beans) We had our christmas celebration early with family so I didn't mind.
OMG Michelle that picture is the cutest thing ever and it really looks cute on you lol! What fun you all must of had at home. I'm glad your chemo tx went well fast and hope the carbo kicks butt!
Laurie- So happy for you to get to have a nice weekend get away sounds like it is so well deserved with all you have been through hope the toe has healed. OUch!!
Carole- So sweet of you to play secret santa for your neice and her kids. And happy Birthday to your mom tomorrow.
Bedo- Also so sweet that you picked up some ones lay away plan, I have heard of people doing that and what a great idea!
Lacey- Gald your DH surgery went well.
Seaside- Thanks! It felt good to be back in my own bed. The pineapple casserole looked delicish I saved it to my recipe will have to try it soon.
Tazzy- Your new avatar is cute!
Moon- Yay on finally figureing out how to post pictures, Im still working on that with no luck. Cute picture of DD and her fiance.
Deb- Hope your DH and DSIL get home safely. loved the christmas tree, so funny!
Hi to Kay, kaara, specialk and all who else I missed. My mind is a blank at the moment.
Susan ((((Hugs))) Sorry you are not feeling well.
Hope Apple is doing ok too!
DH just came in with the vacuum to vacuum off the fan in the ceiling. Really? Geesh dont ya see im busy here. Guess its my clue to get off here and pay attention to him lol!
-
Gosh, Christmas has come and gone so fast! Carole, I thought my DH was the undecorating champ (usually no more than 48 hours), but you win the prize lol! I'm in awe!
Susan, sure hope you can get a handle on the situation, gettin a little worried about you.
Michelle and Monica, great pics! Lacey, hope your DH has a smooth recovery. My dad had no issues with his recent cataract surgery, so I hope that holds true for you too. Laurie, enjoy your getaway, you've earned it!
We had a lovely Christmas with family and friends. My favorite DBIL and DSIL are still here but will leave tomorrow, and Saturday we will go visit my 86 year old dad. I have tons of leftovers but we are trying to make a dent. Tonight, however, I made turkey tetrazzini and Brussels sprouts with pancetta, garlic, lemon and parmesan. Still have leftover Italian cream cake, which came out really good (although I'm not a cake baker). I really don't want to get on the scale. -
"Brussels sprouts with pancetta, garlic, lemon and parmesan"
This sounds delicious!
-
Carol, I am a firm believer in the twelve days of Christmas, so our tree is usually up til Jan 6. Sometimes it seems a bit long, but I love it so up it stays. It was a bit more problematic when we had a real tree, those things get very dry! LOL
-
Lee, I agree, that sounds soooo delicious!!! Nancy, would you mind sharing the recipe for the Brussels Sprouts?
-
Certainly! The only problem is I picked the sprouts off a stalk and I'm not sure how much I used. I'm going to speculate a pound. I didn't use a recipe so I'm winging it here.
2 ounces pancetta, diced
4 cloves garlic minced
1 lb. Brussels sprouts, shredded or sliced
1/4 cup water
Juice from 1/2 lemon
Salt and pepper
Grated parmesan
In a skillet over medium heat, fry pancetta until golden. Add garlic, saute for 1 minute. Add Brussels sprouts, stirring and turning to coat. Add water and lemon juice. Cover and let braise for approximately 5 minutes (or less) or until nearly tender. Uncover, add salt and pepper to taste. Turn up heat and let excess moisture evaporate. Sprinkle parmesan over sprouts and serve.
They were pretty tasty. I also added 1/4 tsp fresh thyme that I had with the salt and pepper. -
Thanks so much, Nancy! I just took a screenshot to add to my recipe folder.
I love those big prehistoric-looking brussel sprout stalks!
-
I decided to can the turkey stock instead of freezing it. The canner is building pressure as I type this.
I'm doing 10 1/2 pint jars. It's not much, but an interesting thing to try. We use stock instead of water when we cook rice, so it will get used.
I'll write more later when I have a real keyboard instead of the phone. It's later.
The canner is cooling. I figure it'll be another 30 minutes before it can be opened.
Moon. We normally leave our tree up until after New Years, but our new "used to be a boy" dog has decided the tree needs his decorating talents... sigh..so it may come down sooner than expected.
Susan, I too am sorry that you're not feeling better. You too, Deb.
Carole. Happy Birthday to your mom. It sounds like she's doing well...which is awesome. I love interacting with the "more senior" folks.
Lacey, sending my wishes to your DH. My mom and grandmother had their cataracts fixed the same day by the same doctor. They both were thrilled with the results. I hope your husband is as thrilled.
Moon. Congrats to your daughter and future son in law.
Eric -
(((Susan))) Hope you are feeling better and that you find the source of your trouble. A second opinion sounds like an excellent idea. Perhaps a trip to the ER of one of the other fabulous hospitals near you would make getting that second opinion a little easier. If you can't remember anything from the last couple of days, I think you should seek some immediate help.
Eric - canning turkey stock? Brilliant!
Debbie - glad you enjoyed your visit with family and the game. How is your DH doing?
We were forecast to get a boatload of snow starting last night, but it changed to rain and has gotten warmer. We are within 20 miles of the rain/snow line so I hope the storm doesn't drift south and east. Rain is OK, a foot of snow is definitely not OK!
My treatment yesterday went well and if I have any SEs, it should happen on Saturday. I'm guessing the dose is small enough that I'll be ok. I feel fine at the moment and even kicked DH out of the kitchen last night so I could make meatloaf, o'brien potatoes and cole slaw. Fortunately, he figured out that the eviction notice was rescinded when it came time for clean up...lol!
-
Michelle: So glad you are doing ok with your tx! You are an inspiration to all of us. I must admit that I panicked at the thought of doing chemo tx initially, but now, if needed, I wouldn't hesitate. Sending you prayers and positive energy.
I'm not doing much cooking these days...getting ready for my upcoming adventure in South Carolina with the new guy in my life! Leaving Saturday and I'll be there until the first week in February when we will drive back to Fl together and he will meet my family. He's a real gem, and we feel blessed that we met so late in life. Love is always possible if you open your heart and are willing to take a risk. The road was bumpy along the way, but it was worth it in the end! My family and friends were all so confused and dismayed by my recent life changes, that I had to ask them to just stop trying to figure me out and wish me well...LOL!
All of the posted recipes sound wonderful and I'll definitely try some of them when I settle back on land again!
-
Just finishing my last cup of coffee then DH and I will head out to clear the driveway... Looks to me like we got 6-8 inches or so... It looks so pretty on the trees and lucky for us DH is off from work and neither of the kids has anyplace they have to be today!
Nancy,
Thanks for the recipe! I think I will try that with our leftover roast beef... DH and I wanted to do Brussels Sprouts for Christmas dinner but figured my in-laws and the kids wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole so we played it safe with a broccoli casserole with cheese... The sprouts sound so much more appealing to me!
Susan,
Sounds like you are really feeling pretty lousy. I hope you feel better soon! Being sick is no fun and being sick during the holidays is even worse. Hope the bloodwork helps them figure out whats going on!
