There is always a possibility. Gather all information that contributes to how the disabling conditions and side effects prevent her from working. The disability determination board will look to see if they are conditions that will last 12 months or more. She should talk to her Doctors about the information in their records and hope it concurs with her reality. These should be the Doctors whose names and addresses she will provide SSA in the initial application. The online app is not difficult if she has that all available but she can save the answers and come back to the online app if she has to find something.

You know how we ladies like to insist we are fine and not complain......that's not a good thing when you need it on the record that you are struggling with side effects, fatigue and pain. Hopefully she has mentioned all that and any struggles she is having to the Doctors.

I don't know much about SSD but disability is much easier to get and never turned down. You can have it for one year. I have been getting it since my last day at work in march 2012. I think SSD is permanent disability. If she plans to work after treatment disability is the way to go.

Mgdsmc is in California. Our state has its own Short Term Disability system that pays persons who are employed, become disabled and have paid into the system. It pays for up to a year. Not all states have such a program.

SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) is a Federal Disability program.

You may want to search online and see if Virginia has its own short term disability, as well as any other programs they may offer.
