4 rounds v. 6 rounds of C/T...thoughts and/or advice?
Hi,
I met with my second opinion and first choice onco today. She is strongly suggesting 6 rounds of C/T beginning in January. My first opinion onco suggested only 4...any thoughts from those of you who have traveled this road before? I am 59 and haven't yet gotten my BRCA test done.
Thanks!

I did the 6 rounds (every three weeks) of all day Cytoxin and Taxotare, and 7 weeks of daily doses of radiation. I just crossed my 4 year mark, and everyone, myself included, is delighted. With TNBC, your best shot is the first one. I threw the book at it and never looked back. I was 48 then, but now expect to reach retirement and beyond. You should look forward too.

I thought TC was usually done in 6 rounds, but I could be wrong.

I would recommend being as agressive as you can stand. You can go for the 6 rounds but if you find it becomes too much then you can go with the 5 rounds or 4 rounds but at least you would have the option of 6. Make sure you have a doctor you feel listens to you and you trust.

Six rounds is as far as I know still the gold standard in TNBC treatment. I did it because I was angry enough to live. Four years later, I'm still here and plan to stay. Don't plan for less than will make you well forever. Please.

This is worth investigating. I have read recently 4 treatments are as effective as 6. I usually make notes on where I find this information but I did not this time. I asked my oncologist and he said yes, they are considering 4 over 6. I know why they don't have 7 -- nobody would come. Chemo was not quite as bad as I expected, but the last two treatments were the worst for me. The whole cancer thing caused me to lose 25 lbs, which was not a bad thing. I was an active 68 year old at the time and continue to be active. Researchers have begun defining TNBC's unique molecular features in hope of identifying new targeted drugs, and if recent clinical trial results are any indication, targeted therapies for TNBC are just around the corner. Ya think?

I was originally slated for 4 dd A/C and 4 dd Taxol. After 3 a/cs they realized that the tumor was growing and switched me over to taxol immediately. I had 6 taxols. Dose dense. Still had residual cancer in my pathology report. Cancer is the devil's disease.
