A&E for me....

Options

So I visited a GP for my breathing issues and was referred straight to Hospital, I'm now in acute oncology.

While waiting, I googled prognosis statistics for stage iv with lung mets. Now I wish I didn't!!!!!!!

Keepingfaith please don't drop your bundle yet. As we all know the statistics on Dr Google are waaaay out if date so don't take any notice. There are so many more option available to us than there were so as your name implies, keep the faith and hang in there.

Love n hugs to you. Chrissy

KeepingFaith, the first thing I'll tell you is that online stats are notoriously out of date. There are a lot of women with lung mets on these boards (and elsewhere!) who do well for very many years.

The second thing is - I know you're scared. I can't take the fear away, no one can, but I can "hold your hand" while you go through this.

    Sending love.

Hi KeepingFaith, very sorry to hear this and I feel for you, I know the anxiety this causes. Are they sure its mets? It wasn't totally clear to me from your post. Anyway, the girls are right, we have MANY options! I don't know what the stats say that you read but I've been here since July and I'm feeling SO MUCH better from talking to everyone here and seeing how well they are doing for a long time! When your treatment starts and esp when your breathing is better you will feel a lot better. I get short of breath when I have anxiety so I can't imagine having breathing problems making me anxious and the anxiety making the breathing even worse that! Hang in there and I hope you are NED quickly!

    Thank you for your support.

I'm really struggling to keep the faith. I am booked in for a drain in the morning. Ct and other scans As well.

They are checking for lung and liver mets. I'll know for sure when I meet oncologist on Wednesday.

I'm wondering of the anxiety is causing the breathing issues. I'm a mess!!!

Thanks again for listening and guiding me through

KeepingFaith - so glad that you were seen today and there is some action happening tomorrow.

As the others said, although you have Stage IV mets there is no "use by date" stamped on you. There are many treatment options and you may find one that works for you!

Keeping Faith Im so sorry to hear the extreme devastation, horror and anxiety you must feeling right now. I hope you did enjoy your trip to Milford, but this must be terrifying for you. I know that severe anxiety can most certainly cause breathing issues.  Im thinking of you and hoping that everything goes well when they do this draining. It is encouraging what these ladies have to say. It is so great to have a forum lke BC Forums where we can support and help one another. Hang in there.

    Gentle Hugs.

    Hey ladies,

I had some fluid aspirated. They only managed 200ml of what they think is 1litre. Better than nothing. I felt almost instant relief.

Meet with onc tomorrow. Preparing for the worst and trusting that with treatment, I'll be here to celebrate next Christmas - hopefully more.

Thank you for 'holding my hand', I really appreciate you all.

    Heya,

    Just finished meeting with oncologist.

Initial tests show no evidence of cancer. Testing of the fluid taken from my lung is underway and results will be available in a week. Cat-scan has been booked too.

Meeting oncologist again at the beginning of Janyary and will definately know what's up. If it is cancer, I will start chemo the same day.

Can't have herceptin as i had a recurrence.

Suggested xeloda / tykerb, hope it works.

I choose chest infection, not that other bastard of a C word.

Wishing you all health and vitality.

I hope you are doing well and feeling better,  have you started your treatments yet? I am wondering about your original diagnosis, it says you were stage 0, does that mean you started out with dcis, non invasive breast cancer or did you have a small invasive component to the dcis? I hope all goes well for you with all your treatments and that this year ahead is full of positive beautiful things for you and your family. It is a blessing to know we don't walk through this life alone, may God bless you always.

KeepingFaith69, I am wondering about the reocurrence statement you made about the herceptin. My original diagnosis was in 2007 and I did have chemo, surgery, radiation and herceptin for a year. This time they found it mets and I am on herceptin again along with perjeta every 3 weeks. Is there something about how the reoccurance presents itself that tells them if herceptin can be used again? I will say that herceptin and perjeta have stablized my progression. I have to be thankful for that because surgery is out of the question.  ~LORI~

    Hi Lori,

    Sorry for the delayed response.

My Herceptin tx was stopped as soon as the recurrence was confirmed. The explanation being that it failed. Perjeta isn't yet available in NZ so it's not an option.

I am now on Xeloda / Tykerb and praying it will work.
