Hello

My mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and after radical mastectomy, biopsy results shown IDC, grade II, ER (8 90%), PR (0), HER2 (2+ 10%) which I guess means ER+, PR-, HER2 status will be seen after CISH results I guess.

Her tumor was 2.2 * 0.7 cm and other 1.2 * 0.8 I believe. 0/17 lymph nodes positive.

Her ki67 score is 70%.

Her therapy, after mastectomy is chemo (FAC therapy) + radiation +  Nolvadex, and they also said that they are waiting CISH for HER2 assessment and then will maybe start with biological therapy, I guess it is Herceptin.

If you have any more info about this tumor I would really appreciate it.

    Mom just got CISH results, HER2 is negative which I believe are great news.

    I was diagnosed with IDC in October, Think Pink day of all days.  The tumor was aprox 1.7 cm at the time it was discovered.  I began chemo in early November and have been tolerating it pretty well.  I have learned a couple of things during this process, 1) is that I have  BRCA2 mutation and 2) not only is it IDC, it is accompanied by Inflammatory Breast Cancer as well.  Is this a common diagnosis?  Is there anyone else out there with this cryzy piggy back diagnosis.  Just last week, my breast surgeon did an ultrasound and we found that the tumor has all but disappeared YAY! But then to learn that it is also inflammatory, kind of put a damper on the good news.  I know that there are still many steps through this treatment process, but one cancer at a time would be nice.

    Hi Angel,

    It sounds like your mother is getting the best possible treatment (with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and hormonal therapy) for the most common type of breast cancer. We may be missing some information though.  If you are born in 84 I assume she's in her late 50's.  If there is more information on her pathology report that she wishes to share on here then perhaps you can provide the extra details that could help you understand the tumor and its treatment.

    For example, most women with this procedure who have small grade 2 tumors do not require radiation afterwards, so perhaps there is some information there regarding whether the cancer was invading the lymphovasculature or the skin.

    Hi Lovebug,

    If your tumor is 1.7cm but chemotherapy was recommended before surgery, then there are several possible reasons for this.  Most likely it was involving the skin, nipple, or chest wall, or else there were known positive lymph nodes.

    If it was involving the skin, or the whole breast was swollen and red, this is called inflammatory breast cancer.  It's still invasive ductal carcinoma, but you also get this extra label.  Regardless, it is certainly good news that it is shrinking before your mastectomy!  One day at a time indeed

    Thank you for your response...I don't know why radiation was given, I will try to translate what doctor wrote

    1. IDC GII, NGII, tumor measures 22x7-12x3-10 mm. DCIS makes 25% of invasive tumor mass, cribriform variant NG II

    2. 0/17 positive

    3. ER 8 90%, PR -, HER2-

    4. ki 67 : 70%5. It says also left breast - without elements of mg...I have no idea what mg means since it's probably Serbian or Latin, but I think it's metastasis...

    That is all it's written. My mother is 60 years old btw.

    she and your family and for ALL of US my prayers are going up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1msphil(idc,stage2, 3 nodes, L mast, chemo and rads and 5 yrs on Tamoxifen.)

    Good translation Angel, the one missing thing would be the margins of the removed tumor.  You could always ask your oncologist about why the radiation is being done.
