An excellent explanation of earlier-announced research.  Thanks for finding and posting this!    Deanna

This article confused me....4 subtypes?  Didn't they recently have an article in Nature saying there were 10 distinct types?  And if luminal A types make up the most cancers, the statement that 40% of luminal A death compared to luminal B "years later" statement doesn't make sense; if luminal B includes HER2+ and now this is not considered a "type" under luminal B but its own category....

    and 40% death....at what interval?

If anyone can add anything to the article, I would love to hear it.  Also, if you are recently DX, does path report indicate luminal status?  I don't know if I want to look back at mine.....

My understanding is that a patient can be ER+, PR+, HER2neg as either Luminal A or B. They are using a KI67 cut off of 13-14% to maybe categorize Lum A vs Lum B.  14% and less is Lum A and > 14% is Lum B.  So it appears Lum B can be either Her2 neg or Positive from my interpretation......

    Thanks cp418.

The more they know the less I understand...

I guess I wait like a sitting duck hoping for the cure, sooner rather than later.

I still don't know if they checked for luminal a or b on my path....anyone else??

wallycat - whether you are luminal A or B will not be stated on your path report, at least not yet.  Right now the difference is a moving target anywhere from PR+ <1-20% and Ki67 >14-20% will put you as Luminal B with HER2 -.  At least that is the range I've read in studies.  I've not found a % for ER positivity threshhold.  Seems it's the PR and Ki67 (and sometimes grade 2-3) that is mentioned.

Check out "PR + cells add prognostic value to luminal A breast cancer" posted by cp418 in this same forum.

Doxie, thank you for your post.

I read everything CP418 posts and maybe I am just reading too much...they simply don't know a lot of the answers yet and I am banging on the door, wanting them Tongue Out

wallycat - no point in making ourselves crazy as the research continues and treatments get updated and changed.  We cannot go back in time, we can only go on from the present. HA -- easier said than done though!
