Love74 mine came in a little bit curlier than it was but it was always wavy, but now its more wavy and a little less curl like it was. I can see how the ends are still curlier than the new hair coming in. Overall I am very happy with it. It's very healthy and I love the layers.

Getting my third trim on thursday. My bangs are all the way past my chin now so going to trim them up to my nose again. That will be a huge amount to cut compared to what I have done so far. I am keeping the layers too so going to add some to the top of my head. They give me great volume.

I did get a litte trim...more of a clean-up. Its like a little pixie but I don't like it at all on me. On the upside...got my TE put in three weeks ago and have had one fill. It hurts but I have a little cleavage so I'm loving it!

I just had my first haircut...it was fabulous. Cut most of the gray at the back away...now it's darker. Also all the baby hair is gone and it's much more like my real hair was. Thicker and more volume. I am almost 11 months PFC.

I am glad I got the trim too...didn't have much taken off but the super fine tips are gone and the shaping makes it look a little more feminine...even though I am the only one who sees it!! The hair dresser said she would just continue to trim around my neck and ears until the top grows out...that may happen quicker when I finish herceptin next month. Its hard though...I didn't even like getting a trim when my hair was really long!

I never got poodle like chemo curls.  My hair had a slight wave as it was growing in, then as it got longer, I believe the weight of the hair eliminated any wave.....with the ever-so-tiny exception of a teenie woosh in my bangs which have a bend at the end of them no matter how often I trim them. My hair seems to become straighter the longer I go without getting it cut.

I've kept my hair short. My real texture started to come back about 11 months PFC. My chemo hair had no shine. Now coming up on 2 years PFC my hair is my hair with all its shine and old texture (fairly straight).

lago; I've noticed that, my hair is soft like baby hair, but also lacking shine... like baby hair.

juneaubugg, I massaged my head with extra virgin olive oil every night. I don't know if this is what did it or not, but my hair came in nice & shiny once it started growing. You will probably find that the soft baby hair changes texture over the next few months. AS depressed as I was by the whole thing, it was kinda interesting to see how it grew and changed each week. I"m sure someone has told you this on these pages somewhere, but taking a weekly picture really helped me see the progress.

I have poodle curls, particularly in the back. I have had 4 trims in my 5 1/2 months PFC.  Like Lago, I think I am keeping it short.  It's pretty shiny.  My hair was poker straight before all this stuff hit the fan.

Hi, I am new to this board. I will be finishing chemo on Dec 31st, I have some stubble that has started to come in already. I was wondering if anyone had taken Biotin supplements, and If so, did they work or have weird side effects? I really would appreciate any feed back. I met someone that said it helped her hair grow faster PFC, just curious if anyone else had success with it.

Ang7894 Here is the photo posting tutorial:

Butterfly14 I've been taking 5mg (5000mcg) of Biotin since 2005. Took it all through chemo too with oncs blessing but be sure to check with your MDs. We do not know what other meds you take. I take a variety of suppliments but for med I only take Anastrozole and a small amount of diuretic (because Anastrozole makes me retain fluid).

Butterfly, I, too, take 5000 mcg of Biotin a day and have been doing so since final chemo treatment. There are no side effects that I know of. I take a slew of other meds, including Arimidex and Metformin (or the placebo). My hair is coming in pretty thick, and I'm giving Biotin part of the credit.

Thank you all for the responses. Another question, did you want until treatment done or did you start before last chemo? I cannot wait to have hair again, I miss it so much!

Like I said I was taking Biotin years before chemo so I never stopped. I had some hair loss (receding hair line) before. I was also doing Minoxidil but stopped on chemo. Resumed 3 weeks PFC.

I am five weeks PFC and am anxiously waiting to see hair growing again.  I never lost ALL of my hair.  I have some hair on my head and I swear what is up there has been growing this entire time.  Should I cut this down or shave it so it all starts at the same point or should I just leave it the way it is?  And when should I expect to see some stubble on my head?  Anyone have a rough estimate?

My regrowth started after the second Taxol...was just white fuzz but I was very grateful! 11 Months later,,,I just had about 4" cut off. Love the new look! Arimidex thins it some but so far I can deal with it!  Hang in there Wink

Butterfly, I take 5000 mcg Biotin a day also. I started it a few weeks after chemo ended in February and am still taking it. I do notice hair on my legs etc growing faster too - not a good thing! But the hair on my head is nice and thick and shiny, so maybe the Biotin has something to do with that. Hard to tell though because I've been using so many things that are supposed to help - B Complex, B12, high protein diet, nioxin system 3 and serum booster for awhile (stopped that awhile ago), olive oil scalp massages. Maybe it's a combination of all of it, or maybe it would have grown back the same anyway. I posted a pic a few pages back if you want to see (it's grown noticeably even since the picture was taken almost a month ago). Lago  & Carrol2 also have great timeline links of their hair that were very encouraging to me when I first finished chemo.

Hello all! It's been a few months since I've posted.  I've been reading a lot of posts about everyone's hair growing back after chemo.  It's been 10 weeks since I finished.  I start Tamoxifen next month after radiation.

My hair is slowly growing back...or should I say my peach fuzz.  One side has more hair then the other, the top isn't growing as quickly as the rest of my head at all.  I'm starting to get concerned.  I started taking 2500 mcg of Biotin a few weeks ago but read some of the other postings that the ladies are taking 5000 mcg so I think I will start taking 2 of them to reach the 5000 mcg.  I also take a multivitamin, fish oil and calcium that have I been taking for a few years.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Shore-One of your post said you were using extra virgin oil.  What does that do to help with hair growth?  My scalp has been very itchy and dry too.  Did anyone have that and what did they do to help it?

Butterfly - Thanks! I used Nioxin system for thinning color treated hair (can't remember the #) and a serum that was called a booster (it was about $30 at amazon). I started coloring it with an ammonia free temporary rinse about 4 weeks pfc - felt so much better not to look at gray, even if it was just a GI Jane look.

Shannie -  I read on several hair/beauty sites that massaging extra virgin olive oil into scalp might stimulate growth and acts as a deep conditioning treatment for dry or damaged hair. I'm sure it's not proven, but I do think it helped. I would think it would help your dry itchy scalp too. Try not to use shampoo with sulfates in it - I think that dries out the scalp.

This was my favorite hair website:

    http://www.hairfinder.com/index.htm

There are lots of good healthy hair tips there, and pictures of short styles. The celebrity section of short styles has lots of good ones to aspire to!

    Hi ladies

I am new to this thread. I am about 6 weeks PFC and my hair is about 1 in long. My eyebrows and eyelashes are coming back too. But my question is my hair is coming back white and fuzzy!! I am 36 and had beautiful thick black hair with some gray but nowhere near what is coming in now! I am horrified that this is what my hair will look like! I have heard that at first for some it comes in fuzzy and white but does change? Is this true?? I am really worried. I know at least it's coming back but it makes me look so much older than I am :-(. Just another crappy SE!

    Thanks for listening!

    Melissa

Melissa...it is true! It is not real hair per se but rather what grows after chemo. MY wig lady who is also a hairdresser said to cut it when you have enough to cut and not leave you looking still bald. I trimmed my own about every two weeks still leaving enough to look decent. After 11 months I had my first haircut and she cut about 4" off. I love it. I am really gray in the front but the back which was just as gray is now charcoal and I love it. I had coloured my hair for decades ( I am 69) and wondered how to stop without the roots showing. Mother Nature took that decision away. They all say their former colour comes back pretty quickly.  Be patient and don't panic.Wink
