What does the color of breast tissue samples indicate?

I am a 39wf 4 years post bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction for widespread DCIS and atypical ductal hyperplasia. A mass was found between my fake nipple and my implant. Also have bony growth on lower ribs of same side. I have extensive medical history with multiple medical problems that present symptoms so hard to tell by them. Having been unable to get insurance after multiple cancers (history of HL stage IIIB treated with chemo n 1995 n radiation skipped due to unexpected pregnancy, valvular cancer with radical vulvectomy n cervical cancer with partial hysterectomy). I am having to use a charity clinic and am nervous to trust results of core biopsy of stromal sclerosis...also wondering significance of tissue sample colors. Some white, some tan n some both? Ideas or suggestions anyone?

    Hi Txgal,

I am being treated at Parkland charity community clinics for high risk breast condition. They have also done my ovarian cancer surgery & related f/u through the gyn/onc clinic. I have received excellent care. All of my doctors are through UT Southwestern and many of them have exceptionally good resumes. It may not be the most convenient care as it involves what feels like endless waiting sometimes, but it is good care.

I don't think you can tell anything by the core sample colors. What matters is at the microscopic level.

I know my sclerosing adenosis is what appeared as a mass on my mammogram but it is a benign condition, although it may be an additional high risk factor.

I understand the distrust. My condition is not evident on mammogram.

Thx Melissa...I guess what makes me concerned is the lack of detail in the report. All pathology reports I have seen (my own) good or bad carried detailed information of what was seen. This report simply describes how received, # of samples n size n color n that it was inked and labelled. Below that it simply says Stromal Sclerosis; benign. No details. :o(
