How do I attach a prosthesis to a party dress?

Options

Just one foob, really a half a foob. I usually wear a cami with a pocket for it, but for this Christmas party I have a beautiful dress with no room for camis, bras, nothing. The foob is silicone and I'm afraid to safety pin it on because it might rip. The top is unlined. Would duct tape from foob to my skin work?

minxie - I don't have a prosthesis, but my mom did. Hers had a soft knit cover.

Just the thought of duct tape on my skin makes me cringe!!! I can barely get the stuff off my fingers when I'm cutting it...now add hours of body heat, and you may be wearing it permanently!!! Surprised

    A couple of thoughts....

Would a strapless, demi-bra work? With your native boob in one side and the foob in the other?

There is also adhesive specifically for prostheses....

    http://www.thebreastformstore.com/double-sided-tape.aspx

Perhaps that would work better than duct tape?

Wish I could be of more help, but my mom just stuck hers in her bra and that was that.

Hopefully, others with way more experience than me will be along soon!

p.s. That's a GORGEOUS dress!!!! Yay for you!!!

    Minxie,

Been there, tried that (double sided tape, prosthesis adhesive,  pins for a foam prosthese, etc).  Nothing worked. It is the iron maiden bra or flat chested.

That realization is what finally tipped me into the decision to have delayed reconstruction two years after my second mastectomy.

no duct tape, I have a bad memory of a pal in school who used duct tape, she was a DD and wanted to wear a special dress......she ripped the skin off trying to remove the tape

It sounds like you already have a prosthesis bit amoeba makes one that issilicon and sticky on the skin sside. It would prolly work on a dress like this as long as u don't have huge boobs. Its been a while but I think its this one. http://www.amoena.com/ca-en/Products/Breastforms/Natura/ I love mine!

I would stitch MX bra cups into dress. It should be possible to stitch them in below the net detail, cut off the straps, but leave the band.

Very pretty dress, by the way.

Well, I wore it this weekend and duct tape worked fine! I duct taped the prothesis to my skin. The dress was pretty tight on top, so everything stayed in place. Didn't hurt at all to take off my skin, the only scary part was when it was looking like the tape might rip the silicone when I peeled it off - but it didn't.

    :)

I agree, the dress is lovely! Glad you found a way to wear it successfully. Ouch, though for the duct tape. I would have had a rash for weeks afterward. :)

Glad your silicone form survived the experience, too.

I am a musician and most concert dresses don't have a high neck so I have several solutions for all kinds of situations.

1.This is the best strapless bra:

    http://www.womanspersonalhealth.com/strapless-mastectomy-bra

It really stays up even for bigger busted gals (I've read). It is a little high above each breast, but is relatively low between the cups, for dress that need that. Absolutely order up a band size and down a cup size as they recommend!

    2. This I haven't tried as a strapless bra but use it all the time with its clear straps.

    http://www.womanspersonalhealth.com/amoena-mastectomy-bra-new-convertible-bra

This is what I would recommend for you, minxie, if you didn't want to repeat your duct tape solution.

    3. This bra has the advantage that it doesn't go too high up in the cup area and also stays up surprisingly well:

    http://www.womanspersonalhealth.com/bandeau-leisure-bra-new

It has "underwire"like plastic things sewn into it that give support and separation so you don't get the flat and squished look that a bandeau would otherwise give you. This bra would also work well with your dress, minxie.

    4. And here is a listing of attatchable breast forms, in case you want to upgrade from duct tape;-)

Minxie, you may be perfectly satisfied with your solution, but maybe this list will help someone else!

I just realized that the OP was saying that the dress fit so snuggly that there was no room for a bra. I misunderstood and thought she didn't want the brastraps to be showing in the pretty neckline. Anyway, one of my suggestions would have helped her and the other suggestions may help others with other clothing challenges;-)
