Wow, I didn't notice any eye changes after surgery but have after the HBOT, as Pinkheart stated. They improved so much that I drove an hour to a friends house for a luncheon and EVERYTHING was blurry when I had my prescription sunglasses on. I had to take them off and drive with the bright sun. I found some regular sunglasses and use them to drive, everything is clear and okay with non-Rx glasses. Okay another freaky side effect is that while I was born a redhead, my roots were not for quite some time. So I stopped dying my hair. It's now a platinum blond/ white but the roots are now auburn! Go figure? I stopped a year ago last March, so it isn't residual but crazy white hair with red roots! I am a freak! Not all over the head but at the crown. That HBOT must do some crazy stuff to our bodies. And it's just since I stopped the treatments after my 20. My hair was falling out before HBOT, I thought because of the surgeries, but now it is getting thicker again. Crazy but I will take it!

Now I get to book the place to stay. Yes, my daughter and her 3 children will be my caregiver. She wanted to be with me last time but I didn't trust the kids to be gentle with me. They have since proved that I can be around them and not be tempted to pick up the 2 year old, and the 9 and 6 year old would do anything for me, so it should work out.

Last time I had 4 different caregivers as I was there so long. As well as DH at intervals.

    You all are the greatest!

    Pinkheart

Dr Baron did my mastectomies, so I had an appt with him when I saw Dr Kline for the first time in April. I like Dr Baron very much and have chosen to see him again for another follow up when I see Dr Kline in January before my surgery. Dr Kline said he wanted Dr Allen to be there when they mark me up Pre op, so don't know if that means separate appointments or what.

I would guess you will like Dr Baron a lot. These Drs are so incredibly caring.

I have been off antibiotics since Monday - taste and vision are resolving slowly. Not having the middle distance problem today as I have been having. Took a flexerll today, but it didn't effect vision. I asked Dr M about it. She indicated she had heard about a lot of things with the antibiotics, but not vision.

Dr M also said both sides look and feel good. We talked about a number of reasons why I have hard places on the underside of the rightie. All boils down to being patient and waiting to see what the body is going to do. So I will be patient, wait and not worry.

My vision is a lttle off.  I am only on an antibiotic, stool softener, and flexeril.  I think the antibiotic is the culprit.

LindaG47- what antibiotic are you on? Food doesn't taste good to me at all and my vision is still a bit off. I am on Minocycline. I am 3 weeks out today and doing will physically, except for I still have one drain. I was walking but it irritated my drain site. It is better but I am not on the treadmill now. I am feeling dumpy mentally, but plugging along as we all do.

Cascader-sending healing thoughts your way as you continue on your journey.

Cherri,  I too, am on Minocycline.  Food doesn't taste all that good to me either and vision is off too. Glad to hear you are doing well.  One week out for me; stage IIB.  Drains getting pulled tomorrow!  WooHoo! Two more days of the antibiotic and it's history.  My label on the side says to not take with food or milk, but Dr. M told me it was OK to take something with it, as it makes me a little queasy also.  Hang in there it does get better.  Looking forward to visiting with you in the spring.......Spring?  Seems so long away.

Still have to be ok'd by anesthesiologist in the am, but I am all marked up and ready. Cannot believe the markings, must get a pic of this!

Thanks for all the positive thoughts , keep them coming please :)

Keep us posted and wishing you the best.

Cascader, we are all thinking of you. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for a peaceful night and positive outcome tomorrow. We have our fingers crossed for you.

Marty- can I ask about your vision issues? I cannot drive as the signs and everything on the road is bleary. It is like my glasses are old and I need a new prescription. They are brand new. I will wait to call eye doctor when I am off the antibiotic.

Cascader - best of everything tomorrow!  Great news, we will await hearing from you after.

Pink - if you need anything here, just PM me.

LindaG47 - somehow I didn't realize there were drains after Stage II.  Oh my.  Glad they are on the way out!  That minocycline is rough stuff.

Cascader- Praying for a GO for you tomorrow and a wonderful outcome.  Rest and heal well.

Marty - Well my IIB  became more than I intended.  My ab scar was revised and breast "perked-up."  10 days out and feeling much better, but still need an afternoon nap.  How's it going with you.  Are you about 1 month out?  I see you are up for Stage II in April.  I think that is a good move not having it to soon after.  Gives you more healing time.

Cherrie,  for some reason my vision didn't seem as bad today.  Maybe I'm getting use to the Minocycline, but glad tonight is my last pill.  Thanks for the PM about the probiotics.

Best wishes Cascader!   Saying prayers for you and the medical team.

Pinkheart- Have a safe trip.    I may see you there next week.

LindaG47- What exactly happens during ab scar revision?   I have an ugly abdominal scar due to my incision opening after my diep/tram surgery earlier this year.   I'm scheduled for a SGAP next week to replace a failed flap.   It was suggested to do scar revision during Stage 2 next summer.

slh_tn - I had a very wide scar after having a wound vac during stage I.  Basically, they reopen the incision and pull it back all together again to minimize the scar and give you a cleaner incision line.  Mine looks really good this time.   You will have to have a drain with this surgery, at least I did.

Cascader - Hope all went well today. Thinking of you.

Cascader, sorry I haven't logged on in a bit, but will pray for smooth going from here on out. I must have missed the part about you being under the weather, so hope that goes away as well.

Thoughts and best wishes for a truly easy go of it.

Didn't know the antibiotics could mess with your eyes too. The HBOT did, but going back to normal. Same thing, eyes felt like glasses were out of sync.

I couldn't concentrate while on the antibiotics but just thought it was the pain meds. Hope all of your eye problems get better soon.

I've booked a place to stay while in Charleston and no cancelations so now trying to avoid all the stickies in the stores, etc. Good to know they could possibly work around it?

My daughter and her 3 kids will be my caregiver so had to have something that I can go to my own room to rest! A little less than a month away but time is going by so quickly.

I have to quit looking at photos of the procedure!

Pinkheart and Cascader I'm sure we all won't be there at the same time, as i arrive on the 1st, but Dr Kline will have us back to back - wonder if he can tell anything after having the oxygen treatments? Hopefully they did their stuff and all surgeries are smooth sailing.

    Sorry for rambling.

Hi all- thank you for all the good wishes. I was totally prepared for my surgery to be cancelled, as I was really feelin awful before hand. No fever so they said ok. I am on day 2 and OUCH ! Surgery was 4.5 hours. Took a little longer because they had to flip me several times. I did not do well with the anesthesia this time, barfed alot! So this is what I had done: lipo on my good butt to put into the dent of my donor site. I didn't want a butt lift which would give best results. Also fixed my bunny tail and removed a mole. My good breast was lifted a little and scars cleaned up from my last lift ( remember I had an implant taken out on that side). My recon breast I think was only opened at the corner near by armpit to give me a better shape. Then lots of fat injected for more volume. Had lipo mostly on my stomach, love handles, and I had asked for inner thighs. Not sure if that was done because I am not sore there and compression garment covers it. Will check everything out later today when I get into shower. Cannot believe how much my stomach hurts!!! Post op Monday. Pink , maybe Tuesday we can meet for a little bit ?

Cascader, Glad to hear all went well.  That anesthesia can be awful.  I get sick even if they put stuff in my IV.  Hope recovery goes well.  Happy to know Cheerleader Marty is near by.  Take it easy.

I had a tiny spot open on my breast today.  I think it is where the glue came undone when I showered and must have pulled a stitch.  I have it bandaged and a compression type bra on it hoping to slow it down.  Heading to check on it again and see if it is subsiding and maybe replace the bandages.

    Happy week ahead to all.

Well I guess since i know what "fun" is heading my way on Friday, I'll just continue to enjoy sitting here in beach chair on Sullivans Island today and be sure to toast the sunset and all the great BC sisters on this board with my grape juice. :)

So glad you gave us the scoop, Cascader. It will be a while before I get to stage 2 but good to hear what happens and so glad you could go ahead with the surgery even if feeling on the yucky side. How is that going? Or are you in ouchville enough to feel better? Either way happy it worked out for you.

I am scared to death to have anything prevent me from going through with the 1/3/13 surgery date after finally getting lodging squared away but non refundable. I can imagine your plans for flight etc would have been the same. Kudos for having the courage to go anyway!

Did Dr Kline say anything about the good that the HBOT did?

Heal well and hopes for a the pain and tummy ouch to go away soon.

    Hugs

    Catie

Hey all- My DIEP stage 2 with Dr. Massey in Nov. was cancelled due to a recent episode of cellulitis, so now I am rescheduled with her for Dec. 19, but need to travel to Charleston to get it done this year. My 25 yr old. daughter is traveling with me and we are coming a 3 days ahead to explore the are since we've never been there before. Is it possible to get around without a car or will I need to rent one? I haven't booked a hotel yet either. Also suggestions of activities.

Florafarm -  I have always had a car, but I know there is a bus system (Dash) and plenty of taxis. Sometime navigating a car on some of the narrow, one-way streets can be tricky.  MartyJ lives in SC on one of the islands and if she sees your post might be the best one to give you advise. Others that haven't used a car can probably let you know too.  Good luck on the 19th.  Charleston is a wonderful city to explore and restaurants are superb.

    Floraform--

I'm having surgery this week in Charleston but will be at East Cooper Hospital in Mt Pleasant

Do you like history tours, plantations, beachwalking? Dr Massey local staff can probably give you good advice on lodging and help you get a medical discount rate.

Im enjoying walking the beaches, food, wine and the beautiful homes decorated and lights. Going to Festival of Lights on James Island.

You'll love Charleston! Relax n enjoy time before and good wishes to great surgery outcome n recovery.

The taxis and bus service kind of suck. But parking is also a challenge.  Unless you're staying within blocks of the hospital, I would rent a car and make sure you get a hotel with free or low-fee parking.

I rented a car in charleston... Stayed at the old mill inn on market and queen... They offer valet parking for $20 per day. It actually was cheaper than parking and paying each time I took the car out... And I just called ahead and my car was waiting for me out in front of hotel. Money well spent.
