ymac - with all the ups and downs of life, I am sure your daughter was probably expressing her fear of loosing you, it just didn't sound that way. Boys are no easier. My DH & I always told our son that he would make a wonderful adult if he survived his teen years. It was tough, but we all survived and he is now at 24 beginning to show us just how right we were. You are almost done now with the reconstruction, although the fear of reoccurance never really leaves you. See what parts of her love of riding you can participate in? Sounds silly, but simply polishing her boots, helping prep her clothing for a show or polishing her saddle can go a long way to saying I know how important this is to you. Ask her to find ways to help you be a part while acknowledging your limitations.
Fred - I hope you tell your daughter that you were disappointed that she didn't come up when you fell, especially since she was with her boyfriend. She might have peeked up and saw that you looked okay (to her eye), but it can't hurt to share your thoughts. JMHO.
-
She is 16. & this is her first boyfriend. (i got her the implanon). She has always been moody. She has also had type 1 diabetes for omg 7 years. She does great in school, manages her diabetes very well. She has very hard time i think expressing emotions. This will pass. My 20 yr old is absolute pleasure tonbe around.
I am going to get my butt xrayed today. Am going to back to work screening on tuesday. Am laid up in bed today -
Omg I changed my profile pic. This is me in oct in san antonio before my reconstruction. My mom and hubby are in pic. I am in middle. Sitting in pt first. To see about my butt
-
Butt not broken!
-
Haha Fredntan...."not broken". Yeah!
I have a question: when I woke up from surgery (11-9), my left hand and part of my arm was numb. I attributed it to 13 hours of having it in some awkward position. Over the last 2 weeks, I've gradually had the feeling return....but it ACHES! My forefinger is still numb and my arm aches from the forearm to the fingers. Sometimes not to bad, but others it throbs and is the only real "pain" I'm experiencing. The doctor in the hospital just said it could be carpal tunnel....that I probably had before the surgery!......but I 'I've never had this pain before. I keep thinking its working itself out.....but I'm not so convinced. Has anyone else had a similar situation? -
chachamom I have the same thing. 11 hour surgery and my rigtht arm was wrapped for LE. major numbness and burning in the fatty part of the hand by the thumb on the right. I can finally extend my arms without terrible pain at least so that part is better. Doc says give it time and if no improvement then we will do some PT.
Is it normal for the belly skin to be hypersensative and tummy to be bloated and firm? It is not super hard just firm near the scar line.

chachamom and maggie... I had the same thing after my stage I surgery. I was unsure if sleeping with my arms on pillows was helping or hurting, but I needed my cocoon or I'd roll over in bed. My passed 100% eventually.. Can't remember how long it took, but I was concerned.
-
Thanks, Maggie! I'll give it some more time and bring it up to my PS again. Yes, my belly skin is really tight....sometimes feels bloated and I tried to buy a flexee today so I can get rid of this Velcro wrap monstrousity. I can't get into a size larger than before surgery even withmy flat tummy!.....so the swelling is still there. Is the compression garment for the swelling, or just to support the abdomen sutures?
-
don't know about the abdominal compression as I have never had it..doc said it was not needed for me.
thanks Bdavis...helpful as always..ur the best!

chachamom, I'm not a MD but sometimes what you feel in the hand as numbness is nerve impingement somewhere else, such as in the neck/shoulder/chest. The location of pain/tingling/numbness whatever depends on where the actual nerve impingement is. With all the messing around they do in the long time of surgery, it's possible it was related to your posture in surgery, or to a muscle spasm you have developed due to discomfort or other stress. Too bad the doctor wants to wait and see before referring to PT. Push for it if you're bothered by it. A physio can assess the musculoskeletal stuff that a BS/PS doesn't really know as much about and you'd be that much ahead.
-
Bdavis, you look too young for 20 year olds!
Fredntan, are you okay after taking a fall?
Ymac, I sometimes wonder how I got through raising my kids. (well one of them anyway) Now they are grown and I am empty nesting :-( -
Aw Beckers.. too sweet... I am actually turning 50 in January... OUCH!
-
Well, you look great!
-
Thanks, Goldlining! I'll check with my dr to see if I can sea PT
-
Hi girls, the morning of my mx I felt like katniss everdean when she was called to be in the hunger games! There was NOTHING she could do to change the chain of events. I am one day out for my diep and I wish this month was over! Please keep me in your prayers, I'll update soon
thank you all for your love and support.
-
Marcie-I am 2 weeks out and doing better than I had imagined I would. You will do great. Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way.
-
Marcie, you will be doing so much better next week and even better after the second! The best pick-me-up was when I got a pic on day 3 of my friend running on a treadmill smiling and healthy. She was 10 wks post-diep! I just focused on the thought that I would be there soon too.
I'm over 4 wks out and turned another corner. Range of motion is almost completely back, only minor ab pain, and I am side sleeping again. Headed to the office for a bit and getting on the treadmill today!
Each day is another day of recovery behind you and one day closer to being healed and healthy! You'll be feeling better next week and fantastic by the end of December! -
Marcie, ditto all the others - you will get through this and hopefully feel better than you expect. You will certainly be in my thoughts tomorrow!
I am now just over 2 weeks out and I'm am feeling great - I thought I'd have a really long, painful recovery but as of today, I'm pain and drain free, compression garment free and am able to drive again. I've been taking long walks and doing light housework and my PS said she may even let me start running again in 2 weeks.
Thanks everyone for the tips and sympathetic ear about my daughter. She has always been somewhat difficult - has problems controlling her emotions and anger and has some slight learning disabilities. We've had her in therapy on and off over the last few years (on for all of last school year) so she's settled down quite a bit. Still, its never easy to deal with her outbursts! Thankfully, my 10 yo son is a sweet angel - he was pretty much my rock throughout this past year, always heaping love, hugs and kisses on me. When I lost my hair from the chemo, he told me I looked perfectly fine and then made sure to kiss my bald head every night. I pray that he stays this sweet through his teen years!!
And BDavis, I agree with Beckers - you look GREAT for being almost 50!!
-
Wishing you luck Marcie! I concur with the others, you will be feeling much better in no time. Like CG I am four weeks out and feeling great. I went back to work part-time today, back at the gym as of a week and a half ago, and generally feeling good. Hope you experience an uneventful recovery!
-
Hi Marcie ,
Channel your inner Catniss. I think she is a great role model for us DIEP women - a strong, smart, survivor - just like you. I am one week out tomorrow and I am feeling better by the hour. Hardest part for me was the anastesia......what a nightmere. Like tracker jacket venom
Hang in there.
Ruby -
Marcie -- best of luck -- the month will pass FAST.
I had my dbl mastectomy and DIEP Nov 6 -- tomorrow will be 3 weeks .. and I swear it has flown by. I feel better every day. Still a little tender, and showered by myself for first time yesterday -- but the rest of life is pretty much back to normal as long as I take it easy. Even having some easy/careful sex again
One suggestion -- I had a little claustrophobic reaction to sleeping in the binder after I left the hospital (and the IV pain meds). What has helped me emmensly is the "chiller pillow" that my sister had given me for menopause/hot flashes. It keeps my back cool (kind of hard to get used to sleeping on your back only for so long, and the heat builds up if you are a larger girl).
Best of luck -- and please feel free to message if you have any questions/concerns.
Linda

damn Linda, I am jealous!!! I am 9 weeks out? Its been a dry year here. Its been so hard getting the sex life going again.
I fired my MO today!!! feels so good. I asked him for bone density scan in sept. I could never get the girls up front to schedule. and all he seems to do is feel me up and take my 30copay. I am going to the Block Center in chicago- going to be dreadfully cold.
-
Fran, if you have a partner, just make it happen and dont take no for an answer or any excuses! I promise it will feel even better than firing your MO.... Haha! Once you get back in the saddle, it will allay the fears on both sides and maybe the dry spells won't last so long. Good luck!!
-
I have had partner for 25 years. I'm only 45 and I think I look pretty good. granted with my clothes off my boobs look kinda weird. one is football shape, other has lollipop. he still won't look at them. he is so squimish. he passes out with blood draws.
will do it when my sorry bumm feels better. I will just post a smiley face
-
Oh right, you need to get that booty feeling better first! I'm sure he'll remember pretty quickly why he's loved you for 25 years. :-)
-
Have a peaceful night Marcie.
-
Thank you again and again, I Sooo appreciate knowing that I am going in today with all my sisters sending me good thoughts, prayers and energy. I will keep you posted soon as possible

Thinking of you Marcie - stay strong
-
Fredntan -- To be fair -- my (incredible) relationship is just about 15 months old... therefore, we were still in the "honeymoon phase" when I was diagnosed last May... and the honeymoon continues. I can't imagine what this diagnosis would have been like to face alone... and think that God sent me this incredibly patient/sexy/capable angel to help me through this.
I had so much to be thankful for this year!
One thing my older sister told me that I will always remember: If you want sex... reach over there and grab Mr. Happy -- whether your man thinks he is ready or not... the 'little macho man' will respond and drag your man along for the ride!
Marcie -- you choose your own emotions -- and will experience this according to the emotions you pick to focus on. This is true of all life! Each day will be better and better -- and even the "bumps" in the road serve a purpose. Who'd'a'thunk that I could be so thankful for sitting up by myself, or how delicious a cup o coffee could be after 3 weeks without! (had my first java this morning -- and it only took an inch for me to spring to life!)
Today I am going into town (for first time!) with a girlfriend for lunch... my first foray out of the house/hospital without my "male nurse/white knight". I am looking forward to girl-talk and shopping!
Later!
Linda
