Left Coast Gathering - Time to Get Organized!
Comments

Hi everyone -- I'm so far behind on my reading this week (work, then stomach flu
), so I'm just skimming this thread now.
Thanks She and Ossa for initiating this!
December is a write-off for me, and the 8th is our company Christmas party. Please post pictures and maybe we can plan another get-together in the new year!
-
Gumshoe "Please post pictures and maybe we can plan another get-together in the new year! "
That's what I was thinking, it's so busy at this time of year. It's a 6 hour trip each way for me (hmm, unless I fly into Coal harbour), which I wouldn't mind, but just can't do it this time. GG
-
Although I want to do this I also am wondering if we can make in in the new year instead of Dec. 8. There is a lot going on not to mention treatments and the uncertainty of how I (we) will feel right then. Also there is the weather and though it has been sunny for two days I have to say that one of the things I don't do well on chemo is being in a car for very long, either driving or being driven.
Several of you are already NED or the home stretch where others are in the midst or just beginning chemo and that includes most of us from Vancouver/Burnaby.

To be honest, I'd prefer to wait until after the holidays as well. But if we're still on for Dec 8 then I'll make every effort to make it. Just not sure how I'll be though, as chemo #1 will be that week (originally scheduled for Dec 3, but they're talking about bumping it back to Dec 6). And I'm sure between the bunch of us from Vancouver that we'd be able to give you a ride, Kathy.
-
Hi everyone - I also want to get together with people for sure to share stories and meet everyone face to face. However, December is a very busy month with Christmas activities - house guests arriving the following week. So maybe not a bad idea to wait until the new year.
-
im also in agreement with a lot of you about twaiting to the new year i would like to meet as many of you as possible and if the new year is better for more of you then its fine with me when tho jan?
-
Hi all! I have decided to decline for the gathering on the 8th. Though I would love to join you all and meet in person, I saw my MO today and have chemo tomorrow and in my heart know that for me, right now is not a good time to gather in a public place especially when it will be close to the "nadir" (newest word in my vocabulary!). I hope to see you all sometime in the NY even maybe when all of us currently on or starting chemo or having a baby (yay Marlene!) have accomplished those things.
Cheers, Marian
-
Hi all. I'm good with either. everyone in my life is telling me I'm doing too much as I'm so not feeling well these days. But I'm ok with the 8th if anyone wants to still do it, and again in the NY. was supposed to be cooking/supervising my annual get-together for 'the kids' (adults) but now my DD has strep & the twins are sniffling, so its postponed to the 9th, but i'm sure with 9 little kiddies one of them will have something, so I doubt the 'annual' will be this year. everyone gets so much sicker than I do, it's weird! ps.. I'm basically doing nothing! so I dont know what they're all talking about! lol
Marian...what is 'nadir' mean? lol cool word!
-
nadir is actually an Aramci word says my daugher who once wrote a blogpost on it. I had never heard it prior to BCO but it gets used a lot as basically it is the lowest point on our chemo cycles, when the WBC cells and neutrophils are at their worst. It is about the halfway mark no matter how many weeks of your cycle. For me the 8th is actually on its way up so I did have it wrong. Nevertheless, with flu, season (your family for instance), a public place and driving which makes me feel vaguely ill if very far, just means I am sensibly (for me) going to give it a pass.
Cher, for some of us it is hard to kick and not do too much isn't it? I am back in bed this AM, as not such a great night post chemo yesterday.
Marian
-
YES!!!
-
looks like most wants to wait until after Christmas. By the sound of it only 4 can meet Dec 8 I am still game if you want a small group gathering in Dec and do a larger group in Jan/ Feb Or if we want to waqit until Jan/Feb Let me know so I can potentially make reservations
-
I'm okay with waiting until the New Year, Ossa. Thanks again for coordinating.
-
Chemo should end last week January so looking forward to meeting you all in Jan/Feb.
Last A/C yesterday and Taxol next 11th and 24th. Yay, Christmas Eve!
-
Thanks Marian about the 'nadir' ! I've had many questions about things, but forget to ask Onc or such.
I'm really in a depression.. well it's been building up. So would be great if any want to meet on 8th.. and then a bigger one in Jan/Feb. I'm so game!
I think at least 'I' could sure use the camaraderie, maybe those that are able still do too.
xox
-
Cher, meant to say Arabic word!
-
Just in case anyone is still planning on meeting Dec 8th, I had told Ossa I was going but now find I will be out of town so can't make it after all. But I am looking forward to a get together in the New Year, hope most will be feeling up to it at that point.
Some of you are going through difficult times right now, sending warm healing thoughts to you all. xo
-
Well ladies it looks like we need to postpone over lunch until Jan/Feb.. Look forward to seeing you all (only two people could make it this time around) Stay healthy everyone
-
Ok Ladies.. I'll wait
till your all ready lol. i'm just starting to feel a wee bit better, so am hoping the same for all of you!! ttyl
-
Thanks Ossa, and I still look forward to seeing all of you in the new year. It was the right decision for me to bow out as I have been feeling rough all week. TMI is on the Canadian thread!
-
I'm sorry it didn't work out, I was hoping to live vicariously & see the photos! Hopefully I can make it over for the one in Jan/Feb.
If anyone is in Vancouver & I could catch a ride out to Langley (if that's where it will be) I don't mind taking the bus from Horseshoe Bay to Vancouver. That would be great. I don't want to spend $200 for the ferry to bring a vehicle.
-
Hope you have a great time when you do get together, I'll be gone again.
My best to all, She
-
She when will you be here, we can maybe plan this areound the time you are home
-
GG27 - I could do the pick up from Van if the timing on our re-attempt works out. Once I learn how I react to the chemo over the next couple of cycles I'll have a better idea if I'm in or not. I'm keeping track of everything in a diary (how I feel, what I'm taking, what I'm eating, etc.) so I can plan for future cycles.
-
Sneaky, That would be great if I could catch a lift with you, like you said "if the timing works out".
I hope your chemo goes well, I was able to get through mine much better than I thought I would, but try to stay away from crowds til you're done & your immune system is back. GG
-
New year, new beginnings... Time to start planning our get together
-
Hi All.. yes Ossa!! Happy NEW beginnings!! Hoping THIS is THE year for good things for all!
I'm getting busier (what else is new) getting dates booked...so lets plan this puppy ok? Were we all trying for Jan? I guess depends on who all are doing treatments/when? I'm seeing Onc again on 8th.. starting Femara (uggh!) hoping the SE's aren't going to knock me down... now that I'm feeling a tad like 'me' still dealing with some SE's from chemo but am getting out more now too.
so wait to hear from others on dates too
-
Need input ladies..
Are you all Ok with Olive garden in Langley?
Pick a date and we will plan for the date when most can attend
Jan 26, 27
Feb 2, 3
Feb 9, 10
Feb16, 17
Feb 23, 24
Mar 2, 3
-
Hi all,
My good days are few and far between since starting chemo. My main priorities are eating healthy and getting my exercise... after that I sometimes don't do much else some days. I'm not going to suggest dates because there's the chance I won't be up to attending anyways. But I'll watch to see which date is picked and if it works out then I'd love to meet up.
Happy New Year, to you all!
-
Sneaky.. sorry to hear chemo is rough on you.. think of it this way.. at least you know it works,, if it did nothing you would wonder if it was doing anything for you.. Each day you are getting closer to being finished your treatment (((gentle hugs))))
-
Any dates except Jan are fine so far! nothing booked thus far. Will wait to hear what others are going for. I'm done the hard stuff now, but starting Femara this week, so will see what happens (eegads)
Sorry Sneaky your having a rough time! Ossa is so right!! hang in there kiddo..next thing you know it's over!
((hugs to all))
