i finished radiation now when will my skin get better? healing?
I finished my 5 weeks of radiation on November 2nd, i ended up with third degree burns. My patholigest said i had more pigment changes then he had expected. Alot of my skin has come off now, but its still very very tan, it was almost black at the end of treatment, and it feels so rough. Ive used several creams and lotions like emula, lidicane, silverdrum i think its called,, and eucerian, 100%aloe, calming cream, radidurm and a powder that i mixed with water. But now that im done is there a better cream to help me heal? Im also still having pain and swelling, my breast still feelz so heavey and is sore to touch or even have fabric against and just hurts, im not sure if thats all caused by my radiation or the two surgerys, one in september and one in october. Any suggestions, im trying to be prepaired as posibile since i was not at all prepaired for the burns and how emotional it all was, there were so many days i wane

amandamarie sorry you are going through this discomfort and pain. You are still "fresh" out of rads. I was told that this rads have an acumulative effect for up to 2 weeks. I have had the same s.e as you have. I guess we are all different and some of us are more sensitive to treatments as others. All I can say is keep up the creams and care. I can relate to the pain of material on the boob especially the nipple. I bought a nipple shield believe it or not actually it is a very soft insert with an indentation where your nipple fits in I purchased it at a mestectomy specialty store. I love it at least it keeps the clothing material off my nipple and part of my boob (I have a very deformed breast now after my surgeries) The insert was very reasonably priced they came 2 in a box. Hope this info helps for dealing with the pain and discomfort for now and please keep your med team informed of your discomfort . My R.O sees me now once evry 5 weeks to check my boob out. Hang in there girl. I am still peeling and repeeling so you are not alone. Hope things ease off for you soon.

Thank you, ill look into that nipple shield. This has not been easy, and i wasnt preapired for the burns or pain, my doc realy glossed over it. I had to do my own research on creams since all the recomended ones i bought and were perscribed realy didnnt help. Theres still such a diffrence in my skin, i feel like a freak and in so much pain.

Amanadamarie I hope you find the shields it does take the edge off when wearing clothes.I know the creams aren,t helping me a whole lot either. I,ve been going through phases where I will try them for awhile then stop.Just know that you aren,t alone. It could take awhile I see the R.O on the 28th again and we,ll see what he says or if he recomends anything the only thing he said to me was "oh my, i want to see you in nov. and no going back to work for you yet" So hon take care let me know how you are doing or if you find out any info.

The first few weeks after rads were the worst, and the only thing that really helped was vicoden and mepilex dressing. You can put your creams on then cover them with the dressing. It doesn't stick to the open wound but will stick (gently) to your healthy skin. It comes in a big variety of sizes, very expensive, but worth it IMHO.

Thank you, atleast i know now that what im feeling is normal, the first few times i saw my rad oncoligest he said just hang in there this is all normal, then he said i had more skin changes then he expected. I cant beleave how much it hurts. I feel like a freak, i hate looking at myself, my skin is still a totaly diffrent color and it feels so rough, its still peeeling and itchey and painful, i wish he would of told me about all the side affects, atleast i would of been prepaired . Thats why im trying to find everything out i can so with my other procuders i am prepaired. I did find out that they didnt get enough tissue to know if im hr2+ or nu postive but still started me on tamxfen, im not so sure im comfertable with that and want to get a second opinion but im not sure where i go for that, i have all my path repoorts now but dont know what to do with them
