Has anyone had micro fat grafting?

hi Galsal, I see that you had diep this year. Are you seeing Dr. Khouri for correction of the diep? I finished reconstruction with Dr. Khouri in March this year, and I am really happy with the result. I had no problems with insurance - he was in network for United health care.
Good luck with your upcoming surgery goodrhue!
-
Sadly, the Diep could not be finished. Surgery was aborted during the operation due to my repeatedly throwing blood clots. I woke up and there was no prize. I just spoke with Cindy in the past 2-3 days and he no longer is in network for UHC. So sad about that too!
Thanks, it's good to hear from folks who are pleased with his work!
-
Not to deter others from Dr. Khouri but my biggest complaint is his "internal bra", putting screws in my collar bones and strings trying to hold up infamamory fold that failed. I wasn't asked permission and have lost sensation w hyper sensitivitivity (nerve damage) from this experimental procedure, numerous scars from implant exchanges, needles, stitches, skin tearing, screws implanted.... On to another surgeon for corrections (assymetry, stitch indents in cleavage, offset implants...) when I can regain some trust. Can not reccomend Dr. Khouri from my personal experience. His schtick is implant free only! He said "I do not put implants in, I only take them out). If you are set on implant free reconstruction, then maybe go forth but expect 4-6 surgeries that are 6-7 hours long each and Dr. Khouri does not do the complete surgery. Just ask questions, read carefully what you sign!! Once you're under, it's out of your hands. Tread lightly with questions or requests, or you'll see another side of this "god".

LAS123:
If this surgeon's schtick is implant free only, then why do so many of his patients, current as well as past, still have implants? -
I'm not aware of so many with implants that have used Dr. K. Only 2 that I've seen having a nice looking outcome. My experience was he does not like implants and puts pressure to go implant free. I was supposed to go from 375 implants to 250 with fat grafting on my first 7 hr surgery but I woke up with 190 implants. Also he insists on removing implants through incisions on each side of breasts by rib cages. Very obvious in bathing suits or summer clothing.
My 2nd fat graft he said he had to remove my implants again to graft or he'd puncture them. When I told him I knew of another woman he grafted with implants he said no he never does, he always takes them out. That time I woke up with 250 implant on right, 190 on left. The third grafting he said he could graft and leave implants. So you see the contradictions. He does what ever he wants and often he is successful but not always. Those of us that aren't happy tend to get hushed. I'm not saying don't go to him. I'm saying be prepared and I do feel he is mostly ideal for women going implant free. I could not recommend him to women that just what to downsize and have some fat over implants. That's what I hoped for but instead I had procedures I never heard of and wasn't prepared for. -
LAS123:
Have you completed your round of surgeries with Dr. Khouri? If you haven't, I can relate to how you feel. In challenging cases it can take 6 to 8 surgeries to arrive at satisfactory results, making it a very tiring process. The intermediate stages are often not pretty, and it's easy to become discouraged and scared. However, as many of his patients will attest to, the end results are nothing short of amazing. If you haven't already, I strongly encourage you to return to Dr Khouri and allow him the opportunity to give you the beautiful results he has given so many others. -
I was not willing to go through 6-9, 6-7 hour surgeries. I understand your point and agree. Those willing to keep going, I have seen some nice results.
My 3rd surgery I brought photos with markings which he appeased me saying they were great and helpful to bring to surgery then later was told by his nurse he didn't use them. He was supposed to only add fat to my right, smaller breast but instead added 150 to both, making the left even larger than the right. The left implant is off to the left too far, he wouldn't fix it. I woke up to be told he placed screws in my collar bones with fishing line type string sutures suspending my breasts. I could feel the constant tugging and movement of them. A week later some popped off causing the most excruciating pain and tore my skin surface. They told me to give it time. I gave it 3 months but the pain remained.
My last (4th) surgery, I insisted on having the screws and strings removed, he resisted but I demanded it and had them put it in writing signed. The pain has lessened but is still there along with the hyper sensitivity and numbness in my upper chest and near under arms. My breasts look no different without them.
I don't want to go through years of surgeries. The fat that has stayed is enough for me. The left has more fat and is lower and outward so maybe they'll never be completely even but I now just want a surgeon that specializes with implant reconstruction to fix the pockets and attempt some symmetry and hopefully get nipple reconstruction, tattoing then be done!

Has any one heard feedback or know of Dr Gayoso in St Petersburg, FL?
-
really? nothing? heard from another that he was trained by Dr Khouri for fat transfer
-
Guess no ones heard of him. I lurk around at the fatgraftpatients website, and haven't heard of him over there either.
-
thanks, I've noticed that. things that make you go hmmmm. appreciate the response though!
-
Gasal, I will confirm, have never heard of him either.
-
thanks ma'am.

After calling to cancel my implant removal, I was encourage to come in to talk to my plastic surgeon. I explained that I didn't want to take it out until I was ready to replace it with a smaller implant and fg. So...I came in an spoke with the plastic surgeon. There's not another ps who could do it in the near future. The only reason I want my present ps to do it because of the contractures & pain I'm having. Also because my copays are covered for the year. BUT...I fear although my ps is good that he may not be experience in fg. I had a little stomach dimpling on my stomach tissue after the last fg that I never had before. (If I don't do it done next week, I'll have it done in Seattle in the Spring 2013).
So far I'm scheduled in a week to have the large implant removed, replaced with a small implant with fg. I fear I maybe making a huge mistake. If my present implant wasn't so painful, I would just said it's done and leave it. I don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire. I'm a little timid about asking him tons of questions. I don't want to annoy him...the one with the knife. I am so confused.
I read...so I wonder how do I know if my ps uses UAL technique? Would my ps be honest with me and tell me?
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE FAT IS NOT HARVESTED WITH UAL TECHNIQUE.
The fat obtained with UAL is completely dead and you will essentially be injecting oil into the breasts which will result in cyst formation and other potential complications.
Although fat is easy to put on and hard to eliminate, it is an extremely delicate tissue and the cells must be obtained using a delicate technique. Many surgeons strongly advocate syringe liposuction (rather than a suction machine). The fat is typically prepared to eliminate the ruptured cells as well as any blood.

Hi. This is morgaine. I had a pap flap/reconstruction to my right breast in January. In October, I had the second stage plus lipo and the fat was injected into the right and left breast (had diep flap/recontruction to left in 2007). My breasts look great. The lipo fat completely improved my left breast (it looks so much more normal). I was running two week after surgery and all is well.
My only question is about the lipo after effects. Will my body explode b/c of the lipo? I run/play tennis/ exercise a lot as is. My PS (Dr. Levine) told me not to worry since I'm so disciplined. But I've read a lot about people regaining the weight. Has anyone else regained the weight? I feel like I will become an oopma loompa. Also, I just went into menopause so I'm agitated.
thanks

I put on one pound--for me--it has nothing to do with the lip--Dr. Ahn did a gorgeous RC on my breast--and a great job recontouring my thighs. I work at the Manhattan VA--and we are presently closed. Transferred temporarily to the Bronx. Trip is quite exhausting. So I eat more. Hope to lose the extra pound--or maybe even a few pounds after I return to New York.
Anyway-fatgrafting has done wonders for me in terms of cosmetics and comfort. Still have scar tissue under my arm. Will request that Dr. Ahn remove more scar tissue and continue with additional fatgrafting in February. All-in-all I have had a tremendous improvement. Quite pleased with my results. Will keep in touch. Eileen
-
Thanks, Eileen. All of my BC dx, sx, and tx has been at the Tampa VA. We're quite fortunate to have a Breast Clinic at this one.
-
Morgaine, I was worried about the same thing. But after my first lipo, I kept my weight low all summer. I feel like I eat a little less, too, maybe from the feeling of suddenly being thinner.
I read an article in the New York Times that said if women stay active, they won't regain the weight lost from lipo in weird places.
I was super worried about the menopause weight, too. That happened for me about five years ago. I haven't had any problems at all. I'm a cyclist, used to race. When I'm working out a lot, I keep the weight off just fine. When I slow down, I've always gained a bit of weight, so I don't think I can blame menopause or the lipo for that.
Just keep being active.
-
Dear kriserts, thanks so much for this. So you didn't gain much during menopause? how did you do that?

LAS123, your story is upsetting and I can relate in the sense that I saw the "best of the best" in NYC - Memorial Sloan Kettering HEAD plastic surgeon and was butchered. I just had surgery number 6 since my March 2012 BMX. I want to start a thread - surgery gone wrong, what you learned and how to prevent it. (or something like that). I get this weird sort of jealousy thing when I hear people who saw my doctor and LOVE him. I still have my implants but I've had to add alloderm to them to hold them up and now fat grafting. I am seeing my new PS later today. Hope to god she didn't harvest the fat using the UAL technique. I wish I knew enough to ask that.
-
I have heard somebody else refer to the UAL technique. Don't know what that is! Could someone please explain that to me? Also why that is not the way to go?
-
ultrasound/sonic assisted liposuction - I asked my PS about it today and she did not use that technique (thank god). As Hindsfeet mentioned above, "The fat obtained with UAL is completely dead and you will essentially be injecting oil into the breasts which will result in cyst formation and other potential complications."

Thank you, Green Monkey
I would definitely participate if I can help others. Yes, I see so many beautiful breasts after breast cancer and wish that was my experience. I am SO happy for those ladies with good experiences and admire the doctors who take pride in their work and truly care and understand the trauma of not just facing cancer but of having a part of our womanhood and sexuality stripped from us.
My sister also had breast cancer over 5 yrs. ago and had a lumpectomy and treatment at Sloan Kettering in NYC. Yes, even the best surgeons are human and have bad days or can be careless
I hope your final outcome allows you to be happy, healthy and most of all, to move on from this nightmare. I appreciate all your posts, GM

LAS123 I started the thread under reconstruction. It's called - NOW THAT THE DRUGS HAVE WORN OFF. And your experience with micro fat grafting would be very good to have. If we know what doesn't work, or what didn't work for us and why, it helps the next person down the road.
3 of my 6 surgeries were to try and fix doctor error and it could have easily been prevented if only I knew better.
I too admire doctors that take pride in their work. I LOVE my new PS. I'm still hoping her last revisions will hold (alloderm bra to fix IMF pocket)

Hi All, Just trying to acquire some information about BR surgery. What options are available immediately following mastectomy surgery? Can you get an implant put in or only the tissue expanders? What is the timeline with the TE's? How long does it take between the fills and the implant surgery? Any info thanks!

I could use some help. I had a mx a year ago with reconstruction. My ps gave me a larger implant than I wanted. It felt heavy and caused me a lot of pain. He had to put a implant in my good breast to make it match my too large reconstructed breast. Dec. 18th, I had him remove the implant in the good breast, and put in a small (tiny) implant in the mx breast with fat grafting. I had planned to go to Seattle, but the on going distance was too much. My p.s. said he'd done lots of fg and was good at it. Everyone says he's the best doc around for reconstruction. He said he brought me down one size
I wanted to be down to a size A or B adding my own fat to cover it. After the surgery, my stomach is very lumpy. I had a nice tummy before surgery...no scars nothing. I gained a few pounds before surgery that gave me a small round belly. My belly is larger than before the lipo suction! The swelling is gone down slightly. It's a little smooter. But under my right ribs is a huge buldge that is very tender. I'm wondering if a hernia, possibly injured through surgery. Have you ever heard of someone being injured through lipo suction. It's been awhile since surgery, and it burns like crazy. My p.s. says it's swelling and I'll be ok. Should I be concerned?

Hi Hindsfeet,
I had bilateral mx April 2, 2012. I just had fat grafting done 3 weeks ago to both breast, doc took ALL the fat I had in my belly and flanks. Mind you, i'm only 5'2 115 lbs so there wasn't that much to take. He got enough to graft 150 cc's in my left breast and 60 in my right. yesterday I cried all day because I had so many lumps and bumps all over my belly not to mention I've had 5 aspirations to remove seroma build up in my lower belly. I had major issues healing from my mx incision last year so the last thing I wanted was to have healing issues from my liposuction. I sat with my PS for an hour and 1/2 yesterday. he did another aspiration and I made him feel every lump there. I was worried it was fat necrosis. He assured me that all the lumps are from scar tissue and that it was impossible it was fat necrosis since he took all the fat. My understanding is, the scar tissue is common after aggresive liposuction. Messaging or lymphatic drainage should help break up the scar tissue.
I too feel like my belly is larger and looks worse then before lipo. he assured me that the tisuee in my belly is still inflammed and it could take up to 3 months for everything to go down and skin to re-tract.
I feel terrible because I blammed my PS for my healing issues and wondered if it was something he was doing wrong. Luckily he's very understanding. I do let me my emotions get the best of me.

I am having my implant totally removed February 20 with additional fat grafting. Would like to get an update from anyone in this situation. Has anyone completed treatment? Are.you happy with your results? Are you pain free? Would so appreciate any update. Eileen

Those of you having the lipo, does your PS have you wearing very tight compression garments in your abs and thighs? I had to war an industrial 40s girdle 24/7 for two months. I think it helped a lot.
-
At my last surgery--I had lipo on outer thighs, knees, waist. Used compression garment for one week 24 hours a day, second week days only. Healed rapidly, looks great. Eileen
