Low Grade DCIS - Surgery to Radiation Timing?

Hello All

I have been told different timelines for starting Radiation after surgery for Low Grade DCIS.

Examples: 4-8 weeks after surgery; no more than 3 mos after surgery

Can anyone chime in on what their RO/Surgeon/etc. recommended. Or how long before you started your radiation after your surgery?

Thank you so much!

I started radiation 4 months after mastectomy and six months after original lumpectomy didn't get good margins for Grade 3 DCIS.  The reason for the wait was that I had reconstruction and the PS wanted to get as many fills in as she could before radiation.  The RO was OK with it.

I'm going to be over 3 months...if I decide to go ahead.  The RO told me yesterday that because DCIS is non invasive, I have more time.  Of course, she said don't wait much longer as this indecision is going to drive me crazy...and she's right, I'm going crazy trying to decide!

Hi NSJ2, I had a wire guided biopsy (lumpectomy) February 13 and started radiation April 10, so 8 weeks in between. I can't remember if the oncologist said anything about the optimum timing, sorry. Mine was intermediate grade.

hmm, I had 2 lumpies then the RO pulled a mamo before starting rads and found more junk so.....back for a 3rd lumpie

I know they were all anxious for me to get into surgery fr the 3rd one, I started the rads soon as I healed on the 3rd surgery but from first surgery to start of rads was about 2 months

Proud to Spin--that was my experience exactly!

Surgical biopsy June 24th; lumpectomy July 11; lumpectomy July 26th--then supposed to start rads, but RO wanted a new mammo, which found more calcs.  Surgical biopsy/lumpectomy  Sept. 19th (more grade 2 DCIS)and Rads began Oct. 11th.

SO...rads began three weeks after last surgery but 3 1/2 months after diagnosis.
