Oncotype Dx

Options

I've been diagnosed with DCIS and IDC, 2.5 cm, Grade 2, 2/3 nodes, ER+/PR+, Her2-. Will I still benefit from an Oncotype Dx Test? My oncologist said that this hasn't been supported by studies yet with lymph node positive patients.

mafe, I just posted in your "waiting" thread :-).  If your insurance pays for it, Go For It.  The more knowledge the better.  It surely has been used for lymph node positive.  Your MO is probably just trying to sway you a bit because of your age and pre-menopausal status.  If you look at my signature line,  I had 2 positive nodes.  They were what is called micromets.  Many up-to-date doctors do not consider micromets to be positive.  Old school docs do.  What was the size of your cancer in the positive lymph nodes?

Also, has anyone suggested the BRCA test for you?  Do you have family history of BC?  That genetic test can determine choice too.  I really didn't want chemo so it was a hard call.  Had I not had young children, I may not have done it.  My Oncotype was 22.  If it was low, such as 4, I would have skipped the chemo by my own choice.  The 22 number helped seal the deal for me.  In the end, the chemo sucked, but since I am not taking Tamoxifen for other reasons, the chemo was a good safety net.  Good luck with your choices.

    Dear mafe,

While you are waiting for more members to respond, you may want to check out our main breastcancer.org site for information about Oncotype Dx.

    We hope this helps.

@mafe, there is a clinical study currently in progress testing use of Oncotype testing on node-positive breast cancer. You might be able to get the test if you participate in the trial. Here's a link. I signed up but was disqualified because my Oncotype score is outside the range that is eligible to continue with the study. The results helped me make a decision about chemotherapy. Also, there is some data--when I got my test results, there was a graph that showed 5-year data for 1-3 positive nodes or 4 & up positive nodes.

    Best wishes for successful treatment
