Qi Gong and TCM

Options

I jsut picked up a book by Nan Lu about using TCM to treat bc.  In it he talks about Qi Gong and Traditional Chinese Medincine and how it has been treating bc for many many years.  The basis is that when our organs are out of harmony with each other disease occurs.  The breast lines up with the stomach meridian and when the liver and kidneys are out of harmony cancer can occur in the breast.  I have not finished it yet but am reading with peaked interest on this alternative approach.  I am also seeking a Qi Gong instructor in my area.  Has anyone else read the book or practiced Qi Gong?

Okay, she said her mom practiced it but ran into trouble when she did something the wrong way.  Something about the energy paths. Having studied therapeutic touch therapy, I sort of understand what she was referring to.  She would only recommend it under the guidence of a teacher.

She says that she prefers tai chi.  Easier to duplicate and you can do it on your own once you know the correct method.

I've been practicing qi gong this year and I really like it.  I use a dvd called Spring Forest Qi Gong.  Master Chunyi Lin is the instructor.  I found some qi gong buddies and we've been practicing qi gong once a week since April.  I really like it.  I feel more calm and peaceful.  My balance seems better.  I don't feel creaky anymore when I drop something and lean over to pick it up.  There are some weeks when it feels a bit like a snooze fest dragging on and on, but I'm always glad afterwards that I made time for it.

I am searching for an instructor near me in Ohio. Think I found one, she emailed me back and I hope to meet her in the coming weeks.  This instructor incorporates Qi Gong into her Tai Chi class so this may be a good one to take.

Sounds like a good mix.  I would love to find something like that in our community.

My friend has had a couple of hypnosis sessions and says they are amazing.  She suffers from brain trauma after an accident and finds it really helps.

I was introduced to Qi Gong by a Reiki Practitioner who is also a 26 year bc survivor. She shared her story with me and explained that she has practiced Qi Gong ever since. I have read some very encouraging studies, as well as anecdotal evidence, of the effectiveness. The classes in which I have participated have been helpful in learning the poses. (I do the 24 Therapeutic poses but also have a book and DVD which I use.) The Qi Gong instructors told the class that it is far more gentle on the body than Tai Chi, which involves more complex movements and stretches. Qi Gong can help to build bone mass, release stress and provides a cardio workout, among other benefits. Enjoy!

PLJ, that is wonderful, a 26 year survivor!! Yippee!!  That says a lot about the powerful connection between mind and body. I am waiting for an instructor I found to get in touch with me this week and hope to be able to see her soon. In the meantime I am doing a lot of reading about TCM and Qi Gong and seeing a hypnotherapist who is helping me be more positive and relax using breathing and guided visualization.  I swear if half of the doctors of western medicine would give natural "medicine" a try they might have healthy patients, for longer.

Nan Lu has a nice DVD for breast health too that is easy. Anything like hypnotherapy, EFT, Heartmath, and meditation all can be very helpful with healing. They're wonderful ways to let go, calm the spirit and empower yourself with healing :)

At the time of my dx, I was told that my cancer was too advanced and could not be cured.... that surgery, radiation and chemo would only take my strength. I was put on femera and told that the cancer could be managed, if I was one of the lucky ones. I was also told that my best chance of survival was to 'be happy". I took that advice to heart. What else did I have. Now, here I am almost 3 years later NED. Is it miraculous. I don't feel like it. Maybe just lucky.

I do qigong faithfully and believe that it has been a large part of my healing. I am an instructor and also study with very high level teachers. The one movement form that I recommend is '24 posture qigong'. link for more info provided below

I also practice sitting meditation and attended a 10 day retreat at the Vipasanna Center in Canada. There are many links about this practice - here is one

Hope this info is a help to someone.
