Ottawa - looking for reconstruction surgeon
Hello ladies,
I am looking for a good breast reconstruction surgeon in Ottawa. I have already been to Dr. Guay's information session and had an appointment with him. I liked him and was ready to go ahead but I keep reading bad things about him on the Rate my doctor website... so now I'm worried... I have also met Dr Gloria Rockwell but that was a disaster. She was rude and rushed and I left her office in tears, feeling completely humiliated. I do not want to go with her. Are there any other surgeons that do breast reconstruction after cancer in Ottawa ? I had a double mastectomy 5 years ago (left side was prophylactic).
Thanks !

Good question micou and hoping you get some responses. I'm also in Ottawa, I have a consultation appt booked with Dr. Rockwell in April. She was the PS that my BS recommended. I was really looking forward to this appt, now a little worried. Did she talk to you about various options available?

Hi there, Dr Segal, my ONC said that there are three here in Ottawa..perhaps ask your onc when you see him/her next.
Hi Mich...funny how we keep running into each other...must get together face to face.
Micou who is your onc?

Hi,
My oncologist is Dr Canil. She recommended Dr Guay.
Mich_M, maybe you will like Dr Rockwell ! Maybe she just had a bad day when I saw her. I had heard good things before I saw her so I'm sure she's good. It just did not work (at all!) for me !
I am actually seeing Dr Guay for a pre-op this week. I just need to get this surgery done now. Because of my job (teacher) I really want it done this june so I can recover this summer (another thing with Dr Rockwell is that the wait time was 8 or 9 months, maybe a year - when I first saw Dr Guay, I could have had the surgery within a few months, had I been ready).

Hello Micou,
I realize it has been a while but I would be very interested in how everything worked out for you?
Thank you,

Hello Spirited,
I am in ottawa and looking for a plastic sugeon... Had a double mastectomy un June, I was referred to dr Boyd in August, but still waiting for a consultation... It seems the delays are quite long... Did you have your surgery yet? -
Hi, I had a double mastectomy in February 2012 and am also looking for a Plastic surgeon. In October, I met with with Dr C. Ferron at the Monfort in Ottawa but he only does implants and he referred me to Dr. Boyd for a DIEP and still waiting for a consultation. Does anyone know what are the waiting period for breast reconstruction once you've met with the Surgeon. There was some articles in the Citizen last week concerning Breast reconstruction in Canada here is the link http://www.ottawacitizen.com/health/women/battle-scars/index.html
Thanks

I had my surgery; bilateral radical mastectomy and immediate reconstruction on 27/08/2012. My Surgeon was Dr. Watters of Ottawa Civic and plastic surgeon was Dr. Kirsty Boyd. Dr. Boyd has been fantastic, have been please with the procedure. She answers all of my questions and is very comfortable to go to. I continue to have fillings until I reach my desired size. I will then sit for 2 months for the skin to fully adapt to the stretched size before the implants will be placed. I will then need to wait for the implants to settle prior to the tattoos being done. A slow process yet exciting at the same time.

I had free tram done by Dr. Guay and am very happy with the results. It's amazing how good the reconstructed boob looks! It took me only 6 months to get the surgery. Dr. Guay does so many breast reconstruction surgeries, that he has a routine and team that works! His process is stream lined. He has info nights every 3 months at the Civic, and consultations can be booked right there. PM me anytime if you would like to know of my experience
