Thanks imatthew. You may see my husband there as well soon....Nice to hear from someone else that they are happy with the center.

I live in Northern Virginia and am being treated at Georgetown. I hope to join a support group in VA even though they have great ones at Georgetown. I can't go there just for a support group. Is anyone involved with the Life with Cancer center? It's really near my office.

mary625~
Life with Cancer center is GREAT! I cannot say enough good things about them. I have done support there, Look Good Feel Good, Reiki, Yoga and I will attempt Belly Dancing next week. Good thing there are no cameras!
The building is new and beautiful. The people are super nice.
Very warm and fuzzy place to be.
By the way, I was also treated at Georgetown.
-
where is the Life with Cancer center located. ?
-
Hi tinkertude~
Life with Cancer center is located in the middle of Fairfax, VA on Pennell Street. It is sort of tucked away from the main road off Rt. 50. There is no fee for most of the classes...
-
Thanks Ang. ! best wishes.

Thanks Maria~
I wanted to mention that at Life with Cancer center any person in your family can take a class. My teen daughter did the Reiki with me as she was feeling pretty stressed out...
-
ANG..Thanks thats good to know . My daughter is almost 16 and she has had a real hard time with it all. Doing better now, but it is always great to have that as an option. Her school is off 50 so it looks like it isnt too far from there. We live in Woodbridge and there isnt too much here. Even Potomac Hospital only offers a basic support group nothing directed specifically toward BC.

Is anyone else going to the Survivorship Conference on Saturday at the I Can Cope location in Fairfax, it is full now, but I wondered if anyone from the Dumfries area was registered?
-
Seems this board has not been active for awhile. Anyone want to start it up again? I have not had a chance to get to the center in Fairfax for any support groups but hope to after surgery. Would be nice to connect with others in the area.
-
Hi ladies, I live in northern Virgina, diagnosed this summer and undergoing chemo at Georgetown hospital. It would be nice to reactivate this group..
Good luck to all -
I amin fredericksburg va, starting the ae37 vaccine trial up in dc on monday at Sibley I think.
How do youlike your MO? I guess I will be shopping fir another one. Hate the dc traffic. I am all finished with my tx. Two weeks out from my diep -
I am in the Centreville area and would love to connect with others in the area.... One year out from a BMX and only 4 more years of Tamoxifen. DC traffic sucks! Stay safe with the storm ladies....
-
Hi,
I too live in Northern Virginia and would love to connect with others in the area too. I live in Reston.
-
Hi ladies~
3 years out from Diep surgery and chemo.
I am in Northern Virginia and would love to connect also.
Be careful out there weather-wise...
-
I realize this is a get through treatment board but ts the only one i found that has anything to do with Northern VA. Still worth getting reactivated.!
I have surgery on Thursday. Thank goodness its not sooner with this STORM!
For those who have been through surgery, any good tips to pass along? -
Hey dessert1st~
Take care of you and do not overdo it.
If you have drains, I tied them up (gently) on a loose string around my neck when I showered.
If I think of any great advice, I will post...
-
Welcome dessert1st...
Surgery tips - It's not as bad as you expect. Wear button up tops for 1st day or two as easier to get in & out of on your own... Rest as much as you need and take things at your own pace. Wishing you the best on Thursday!
Hope everyone is weathering the storm without incident. Take care.

Hello! surgery went good S.only took 2 nodes and they were clear.
I am very sore and having a reaction to the narcotics I was given in hospital. I itch all over, especially on whatever is touching something. Like the back of my head. anyone have any suggestions? -
dessert,
Glad surgery went well but sorry about the allergic reaction. One suggestion, Benadryl.... Sending gentle hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery...
-
Thanks odie. I am a week out and doing ok. The drains are a pain though!
-
The drains are the worst part of it, IMHO.....

Anyone in Northern VA care to recommend their BS and PS? (preferable a PS who does fat grafting or DIEP) I've tried BS in Fairfax Inova and it was a nightmare. In desperation, I went Maryland. Long term wise I'll like to move my care back to Northern VA if I can find a good BS.
-
I go to Dr Cohen at the I
Nova Breast center. The is also a women BS there who is very good.
They have a team of PS they work with. I am with Dr. Suh. she is great. She will not do the Deep, but does the Tram and she does do fat graft because she mention that I am going to need one to fill in a few spots. If you are talking about the newest procedure of fat grafting to create the new breast, she doesn't do that because if the risks -
dessert1st, thanks for your recommendation. I did go to Invoa Fairfax Breast Center and that's where the nightmare started. In fact, yesterday morning, I met a lady online who had issues with the same doctor, making me realise that mine is not an isolated case. Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh, but I'd think twice before going back to that office.
-
Does anyone know of good MO? I live in fredericksburg. My doc really doesnt do anything when I see him. Does physical, asks how tamox going. No bloodwork. I have to tell him what to do. I want someone that does tumor markers, and can give me advice on supplements. Not opposed to going to DC. I go monthly for my bc vaccine trial to Sibley. Hate traffic in DC. And forget changing docs in my little town. They all know each other
-
My BS is Dr Dougherty and Dr. John Williams in Manassas is also supposed to be really good. Reconstructive plastic surgeon Dr. Allison is great. Can't recommend an MO fredtan as mine doesn't do anything different than yours....
-
Guineamom,
Did you ever get a referral for a BS and PS who does a DIEP in Northern VA? I had DIEP, love the outcome, and highly recommend my surgeons: BS: Dr. Hernan Vargas. PS who does DIEP: Dr. Mark Venturi and Dr. Alex Mesbahi.
-
Very much agree with the previous poster that Dr. Mark Venturi is the best! I had implants. I did not have a good experience with Virginia Surgery Associates.
-
Dr's Venturi and Mesbahi performed my wife's DIEP, we highly recommend them. Fantastic surgeons with wonderful bedside manner. Very accomadating office that doesn't balance bill as well.
