Warning, I realize this is sort of a clothing rant.

Here in WA Cold Water Creek and Talbots are having great sales. Talbots has more substantial shirts, CWC has gone to lots of light weight shirts that you havew to wear a camisole with, I don't like that. I always loved Lands End for quality basics until Sears bought them. I have really old navy blue dressy tee shirts that have not faded one bit. I miss my old Land's End quality.

It is so hard to find high quality clothing that will last. MY DS worked for Banana Republic while he was in college and they had an anual family sale. One time got 10 items for $100.00. One of the blouses was pink and white striped and lasted for about 15 years, when I just got tired of it. DS told me all banana republic material was washed 3 times so no shriking whatsoever, I bet that isn't the way any longer.   I used to really like clothes, now I just don't want to have to return them.

There are very few high quality clothes out there anymore.  I use to love Talbots, but have been very disappointed lately.  CWC is the same. Clothes are now considered disposable and only to be used for    2-3 years. I have wonderful t-shirts from talbots from 10 years ago, only problem is now they're too small.  I'm tired of these flimsey shirts that need a camisole under them.  I live in HOT Arizona and more than one layer is too hot. I use to love to shop, now it's a chore.

Joining the clothes rant here--I am tired of spending good money for a shirt that either 1. shrinks in a cold water wash (and I never put a shirt in the dryer); 2. is of flimsy material or (most common) 3. is so low cut that I have to wear a tank top under it.

I have a good number of LLBean from when we lived in Illinois, cold there. I used to find good quality there but haven't bought enough lately to comment intelligently. I did notice there is nothing there made in the USA except some boots. It is hard to find anything made in the USA anywhere. I do try, especially with Christmas gifts. I am also going to go to some of our small shops this year, I do love shopping on line though but I will give it an honest try.  I'l look at Etsy too for handmades.

I bought our granddaughter a book, Goodnight Construction Site and was surprised to see it was printed in China. What do we make here?

And it is just not clothes, but undies.   Elastic gives out after a few washings and I am not about to hand wash panties...    L L Bean has an "overstock" website with some great bargains.

My complaint is that "tall" slacks have gotten shorter.   At age 66, I know I have not grown taller.  And long sleeve shirts and sweaters end up being 3/4 length for me.

Ooh GramE I am tall too, 5'11 1/2"  Cold Water Creek has some decent tall jeans, I wait for sales. Lands End used to, but I think they have gotten rid of tall plus sizes there.  We are about the same age.

Bras have also gotten really expensive and I am not sure about the wear. I did get fitten and I went down a band size and down a cup size. I had been wearing big bras to try to be comfortable. New ones look nice now but will they hold up?  and hold me up! LOL

I have switched to Genie or Ahh bras.   They give me the support and comfort I want and need.

Maybe they're just trying to make clothes that fit nobody. I'm short and hem everything. Lately t-shirts are too long. My friend is even shorter than I and she buys cropped pants because they're full length on her. I have threatened to make a patchwork purse out of the pant legs I've cut off. Then I would literally have a purse that matched everything in my wardrobe.

Since we are on the clothes thing...I donated 16 pairs of jeans last weekend. Problem is I have tried on a million pairs and can't find any that fit right. I see women with weird shapes that look nice in their jeans so what's wrong with me?

To describe my shape-5'7", no real waist or hips, lost my ass to chemo, kind of between size 12/14. All I want is a pair of dark washed straight leg ones that look nice. What I have tried on gaps at the back of the waistband, or too stretchy, or they are so dang long I would have to wear stilettos or cut them off. I am willing to pay the bucks if I could just find the right ones. Buying a swimsuit with no breasts was easier than finding a pair of jeans-that's just not right.

What jeans are you guys buying? Oh and I am not a youngster-54 years old

I buy cold water creek  narrow leg knit denim jeans. They are reall comfortable.    I think the straight leg ones tend to be too wide in the leg and look big.

The gap at your waist says that you might need a curvy fit because they go in at the waist. You might have more curve than you think.

Good luck, you are a great size!

I find that LEE jeans are better than most at not having that gap at the waist, and they come in a variety of lengths.

If you really want to look like there is more in the rear, look for styles with a flap pocket in the back.  The extra fabric adds bulk.  I have more there than I would like to start with, so I avoid those styles like the plague.

I've worn Lee jeans for years. I just bought a pair of Not Your Daughter's Jeans because they fit really well. I've lost some weight and some of my current pants were really baggy. I'm mostly straight up and down with more tummy than rear.

I am 5'8" and Lee has jeans in long sizes which actually reach the tops of my feet and sometimes beyond.  They also have many styles/fits.

Hi all I could use your help.  After a summer of not doing much cleaning in the house, I need to get moving.  My question is what to use to clean my baseboards and wood cabinets.  I am trying to use safe products in the house, like organic.  I've always liked natural products but now after bc I can't use anything else.  Or maybe I can procrastinate - I'm good at that.

     Thanks, Mary

Murphy's Oil Soap has been around for a hundred years, and the poison control information says to drink a glass of water to dilute it if swallowed. That is about as safe an effective wood cleaner as you are likely to find.

I like baking soda for scrubbing things like tubs, sinks and tile because it doesn't scratch the surface, but is very effective.

Oh, thanks for your reply PatMom.  I will get some Murphy's oil soap.  I also like vinegar in water for floors, just not wood floors.

Now I fell inspired.  When the weather turns chilly I fell the need to get things clean and cozy.

    Thanks again,

    Mary

I like the way Murphy's smells like you've cleaned.

I have used Murphy's Oil Soap for over 22 years.  I know cause thats how old my daughter is.  I love to use it on all my kitchen cabinets and  bathroom cabinets. I have used it on baseboards and kitchen table and chairs.  I also use a lot of vinegar mixed to a 50/50 solution with water.

We use our 5th-wheel trailer as extra storage and we aren't living in it.  That's pretty bad.  If we ever wanted to use it, it would take a half a day to clear it out.

I am such an advocate for the flu shot, and yet I haven't got mine yet this year.  I really need to go get one.  The place I always went was closed down over the Summer.
