    Please help

How many txs did you do before jut going to p/h????

I'm at wits end. I get RX 11/14. Which makes Thanksgiving day my worst big d days. Can't make drive to in laws , won't eat if I get there.

My son is off that whole week my husband week after.

If This is my last Thanksgiving I would like to enjoy it. I want to enjoy my husbands days off and sons and we want to go away overnight bc I was sick everyone this year.

I thought about refusing the taxotere. Especially reading how you feel better on just p/h. I've only done two txs so far.

I see my onc on Wed. She wasn't happy cutting dose but depends and spending 90% of time in bathroom is no QOL. Would love this break.

    Do you think it's reasonable?

    Thanks

    Kelly

Spamgirl, the first was the worst for most of us then mine got way better. I got my last tx today with the Tax-hooray!! I had some really bad belly cramps after the last one so he ordered me somemuscle relaxers-worth a try. I think most of us have the Big D as the worst of it and for me the taste buds suck. everything tastes horrible-that is what I am most looking forward to-and probably in time for thanksgiving!!

    Shaysmom,

you asked for an opinion so I am going to just say it. Don't stop the Tax-that is the major cancer butt kicking drug in the combo. You said you have had 2 tx-which means you probably haven't done a scan yet? Most scan at 12 weeks-if you haven't scanned yet you can't be even sure it is working. You have already been thru so many other chemos so I am sure you have had screwed up holidays before so I sure understand what you are saying. I doubt if skipping 1 Tax will make things any worse so it doesn't sound unreasonable and you would get some wonderful quality time. My guy lets me make those decisions and if he disagrees we discuss it but I ultimately make the decision. Merits for both ways-if you feel that strongly go for it but please just make it a skip and not a total scrapping of the Tax.

Lilylady, congrats on your last one! That is awesome! Three down here...scans on 19th...praying! No picnic by far but hoping it kicks the crap out of this, and then it will all be worth it. Hang in there, ladies!

    Lily,

Thanks. Makes sense. I'm just so tired, thin and beat up. I have roughed out many drugs but nothing has been this bad. Someone said too, after 11 straight years of almost nonstop tx my body doesn't bounce back.

I really want to be able to enjoy my sons days off and husbands days off.

I started chemo dec 19 2001, my hair fell out 1/1/ 02 and then another year started Xeloda at Christmas and next year Abraxane left me bald for Christmas.

    So yes many crazy holidays.

I'm glad you are enjoying eating. I'm losing7- 10 pounds a tx on this. It's scarey.

Will let you know what Oncologist says.

Thanks for this thread, lilylady! I've gotten three tx of the perjeta/herceptin/taxotere...it sounds like most people on here had a really tough time the first round. My first and second tx weren't too bad, just some occasional diarrhea days, but the 3rd tx (Oct 30) is kicking my butt!! The big D has made me miserable. Just got on lomotil yesterday, and am trying to figure out the right dosage to take. Took four pills today. Afraid of going the other direction and being constipated, as I've had that problem on other treatments...but it sounds like treating the diarrhea is more of a concern. I'm drinking lots of water and coconut water.

The eye twitch is driving me nuts!!!!! It's helpful to hear it's not just me.

@tishy34, I sure hope your c-diff is cleared up. That sounds utterly miserable!! Something else to be paranoid about, I guess.

Thank you all for the pointers and I wish you all success with this treatment!

Just love when you are three tx in and new side effects crop up...appears running a low grade fever is now a new one for me based off of the past two. I better have some kick ass scans on the 19th! Sorry for complaining, but this week has been a bear mentally and physically. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi AIC.  Here's to hoping that your scans on the 19th are kick ass.  I've actually had the low grade fever thing twice at night when I've been extremely tired.  My onc told me that I was being sent a message to slow down.  Both times I was fine in the morning after a good night's sleep.  For those with the big D issues, I've recently gotten something new which seems to be helping a bit.  Its Hyoscyamine, which is used for irritable bowel.  It is intended to reduce the spasms which seem to be part of the issue for me.  I'm willing to try anything that helps.  Hang in there and we're waiting to hear good results from your scans. Have a great weekend!

Pearlady, I have been lacking quality sleep lately and probably overdoing it. Hopefully tomorrow will be a new day :) thanks for your support! See you are in NJ...I was born there and have family there. Hope you made it through Sandy ok. My son's school has a huge uhaul of supplies/donations in route!

AIC sleep is so important with this.  Many times I get the low grade fever feeling when I am overtired. I sometimes take Ativan and/or melatonin at night to relax me and it does help.  I don't really like to take Ambien.

Thanks for asking regarding Sandy.  We were very fortunate.  We had three days of no power, but no damage.  Still no internet or phone at home, but that's nothing.  Many people were impacted much more.   So sad to hear the stories of some of my co-workers who's families have lost everything.  Hope your family in NJ are okay.

Great thread Lilylady! I have just started on this combo also. And the big D just knocked at my door! I just went for pepto bismol, we"ll see how that works. Heart racing is another side effect for me; and I know it's different for everyone. Thanks for sharing your experiences ladies! xoxo

Those who are just on the P and H-please tell me how wonderful life is for you? No bad taste buds especially??? I am blaming everything on the Tax-so hoping that is going to hold true.

On the P and H with afinitor.  No bad taste buds after first treatment, but still the big D.  It is getting better, however, with new meds that I've gotten.  Actaully was able to go to a wedding on Sat. night and not spend the entire night in the b-room.  All things considered, life is pretty good!

I am just on P and H, now. Feeling fabulous. I don't have the big D anymore . . . I keep track of what I eat and my symptoms. And, I've found on the days I have dairy, the more time I spend in the bathroom. Cut it out completely and haven't had another bout of it. Not sure if there is a corrolation for others, but it works for me. Now I just need to find other sources of calcium besides soy.

The hair grows back on herceptin and perjeta. I told my 10 year old daughter . . . 'Look, my hair is growing back.' She replied, 'Mommy, you have like 3 hairs.' Touche. I am told that it should cover my head by February. Looking forward to that.

Michelle you are right.  My big D problem is definitely managed by food.  For me the dairy is not as big an issue as sugar. Of course we all know that sugar is the worst for cancer, so it's probably best if I don't eat any.

I was never on the on the tax, so I never did lose my hair with the P and H.

Man, my hair has been growing on Halaven. I had planned to get my first hair trim on my birthday. Nov. 29th. Now that I switched to this combo, my hair won't make until Thanksgiving. :(

SpamGirl-I have peach fuzz and some dark stubby stuff has just started to show up. I had just gotten enough hair back from previous loss to get my first haircut when I started the Tax and lost it again. For those who have not been on herceptin before it slows down the hair regrowth-a lot!! I know some ladies I started out with have done some of the Nioxin and Biotin stuff that promotes growth. My hairlady swears daily head massages help also. I know my fuzzy little head freezes to death so I am making myself a new hat collection.

kingcour-we will all be on pins and needles waiting your results. Sending every possible positive vibe your way!!

Michelle-Thanks for the encouraging stuff about how good you feel just being on the targeted stuff. Like I have said I am blaming the Taxotere for all the bad stuff-hope that is true. I think I might be the first one to have finished the Tax regimen. The ladies who were ahead of me are no longer on this regimen.

After repeated wrangling with the insurance co they have finally started paying for my tx. They haven't sent my doc a dime since I started the Perjeta. I spent major time on hold with them this week and they have changed my status to approved thru Feb and said they will start sending money very soon. That is a relief. I am hoping for a long run on this stuff and it helps that they are going to pay for it!!

Praise God- my scan looked great! My bones are clear, the three nodes involved are clear, my one remaining liver spot had decreased again by half since Sept 5 and had no uptake at all- didn't even light up! The only strange thing is that my breast tumor isn't going anywhere. It just remained stable. My feeling now is that the mothership must go. My doc doesn't want me to take the necessary chemo break for the surgery quite yet, but I am going to consult with the breast surgeon anyway. All of the nurses seemed to side with me. Getting rid of that thing could get me to NED. I wonder if it is possible for the receptors to have changed. I had a very low PR at biopsy- it wasn't enough to count as a positive, but I am thinking another biopsy may be needed. I have another scan in 90 days. For now we are pushing on with the same treatment- even the tax since I am tolerating it well. Thank you ladies for your prayers and concern! Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and Thanksgiving! We are finally settled in our new house! So much to be thankful for this year!

Kingcour, Always good to hear great news, and I too agree with getting rid of "the mothership" Wink It would surely ease the mind.

Lilylady, you've had a fight on your hands all the way around, glad to hear insurance finally came through. One less thing to worry about.
