In shock

Benny, sooo good to hear from u, had this vision of you in hospital !! The fear of it being everywhere is something we all have, just try and stay positive, Chemo is quite honestly nothing like you are imagining. I cried all the way there and begged my DH to take me home. Then thought of people in far worse situations than me and how brave they were being, stopped crying and calmed down. Glad you got a wig sorted, going for mine on Wednesday. Can tie a mean turban now and it will grow back after all. Bet you are on here after first chemo agreeing with me and all our BC sisters that first one the scariest, only because you don't know what to expect. I just want to get through them now. Then the rads and on with living.
Dakota will be thinking of you on the 8th. If I can bounce through the week at 64 years old I am sure you will be able to do all you want to do. Let the unimportant things wait or get someone else to do them.I had mine Tuesday and keep waiting for something to happen. Only SE is slight dizziness and this has been caused by my anti sickness pills !!I have carried on almost as usual but make sure I rest as much as possible in between having normal experiences. Sure you will make hockey tournament and enjoy it.
Traii, well done after first chemo, it really isn't as awful as we imagine is it ? Sometimes get through a whole day with no thought of BC. An almost three year old will not let you collapse in a heap even if you want to lol. My little GD's keep me on my toes they think I just have a sore arm, if only. I find sherbet lemon sweets help with the yucky mouth also sucking ice pieces also brushing teeth and tongue with minty toothpaste
Momine, hope you are ok. sure you are right about maybe feeling really tired at the end of these so doing as much as can manage before.
Lovely happy Sunday to you all. Edith
-
Edith, that is such good advice on letting unimportant things wait. We tend to convince ourselves that we MUST do 50 million stupid things, when we really don't have to. I also skipped all the stuff I simply didn't feel like doing, as much as was possible. If you only do the things you actually want to do, then chemo is not half bad

Also, if people offer to help, LET THEM! If they want to take you out for dinner or bring food, say YES! In addition we hired a cleaning lady. This way we did not have to worry about that part. I am done with chemo now, but we kept the cleaninglady

Had a biopsy on left breast and i was diagnosed with IDC. Total shock. For 2 weeks lost 10 pounds because i would not eat afraid i was feeding it. Could not sleep at all. Now i am just numb. Went to counseling and they said it was estrogen and progesterone positive and her2 negative. Its a 1.5 cm tumer in left breast about 2 oclock. I have fought with insurance company for MRI but they have changed it 3 times now. Next appointment will be November 6th i hope. Can anyone tell me what the Mri will tell them they dont already know. And what treatments will be needed? I have looked up so many things on internet and my mind is mush now. And i have waited a week and a half now for the MRI. Will that make a difference? Scared to death to move.

Thanks for the advice edithesther I may just have to go out today and buy those lemon sugarless lollies.
Taste is absolutely doing my head in..apart from that, Im feeling fine....even did house work while my little munchkin watched Fireman Sam for the 100th time! lol......
How cute your GD thinks you have a sore arm 'only'...my son thinks I only have a yucky booby and with the medicine everything will be better soon ( hmm....in a few months time maybe.....positive thinking).
True though ladies, once you have the first chemo treatment your mind will start to ease thereafter as its the unknowing that adds the stress of SE's.....just don't go 'looking' for all the SE's because trust me.....thats bound to drive any of us loopy.
Today Day 5 from Taxotere and I don't feel any different to that of day 1-4. Yes I'm a little tired but still getting things done in my own pace (and in a little fast forward thanks to my lovely son lol)
CBEAR: You need to eat....I was like you, thinking omg, was it something I'm eating thats caused my BC but its not just about that. I actually gained 1kg every week !!

Don't be afraid of eating, even my Breast Surgeon said to carry on as normal like everything, 'in moderation' !
I had a MRI after my Mammogram, Biopsy, ultrasound and Lumpectomy also... this is something I wanted to get done as it can show more of the breast area and Lymph Nodes also. My tumour was at 6o'clock right breast and cm. Then as I had positive nodes went in for a Full Bone scan, chest, body, heart etc.
Treatment plans are all different hun..... I have to have chemo as I've already been radiated on for a previous cancer , it really does depend on each surgeon, type of cancer / agressiveness / stage etc.
Your tumor is small, did they say lumpectomy with sentinal removal to check if your lymph nodes are clear ?
Being ER++ and HER2- is good....it means that the cancer responds well to hormone treatment.
I have told that delaying even a month will not make a difference as most BC's have been there years before they show up on any test.
Good Luck and keep us posted. We are all here to help in any way and I hope that I've eased your mind a little !

Momine, I do find it hard to let people help, but then think if they were in my position I would be there trying to ease their load so I let them ! DH loves the shopping and is delighted to come home and show me his bargains. I clean when I am energetic and read or watch TV when I don't.Envy you your cleaning lady, how lovely that you kept her on. More important things in life than dusting ! seven days after 1st session and still feel really good. Bit of cleaning this morning, then a good sort out of some drawers then shower and very gentle hair wash, ha ha. know it won't fall out yet but when no one is looking give it a quick tug to make sure.
cbear, big hug to you, this is the worse time for you but I promise it does ease. Please eat, you are not feeding it. You need to be strong to fight, eat well and DO NOT go on the internet looking up anything, just ask on here or your care team. I surfed like a mad woman and had myself dead and buried. So many things that aren't true on there as well.I have IDC too and as my beautiful nurse said, it is the most common form of BC and therefore they know so much about it they will have you back to good health before you know it. Mine is not hormone related so I am having chemo and rads, don't be afraid you have found us and we are here for you. We all imagine it growing out of control but it is not happening. Traii is right. I think mine has maybe been there a year. 2cm removed with a lumpectomy, now chemo, rads, are my insurance policy for plenty more years BC free.My delay was a month by the way tumour still the same as when first found.
We are all on the same journey, we will hold your hand.

Edie-
Thanks so much for ur vote of confidence for my upcoming hockey weekend. I know I can do it. I hate to miss anything the kids are doing. My daughter also has soccer thrown in there. I got my Aleeve, Claritin, colace, lemon drops. Anything else, oh and my blanket
-
Dear Dakota, I will be thinking of you and sending out calming vibes. You will be fine, if I can do it so can you. Please let me know how it goes. Those lemon drops really help and if you find your mouth is dry when you get home suck on ice pieces they really help. Drink lots of fluid too, unfortunately, not alchohol lol.
-
Edi-
Thanks for the vibes. I will fill u in
keep me updated on u also !! -
Can't talk long.... supper is ready and Heartland will be on the tube in about 15 minutes, but just uploading a few photos from today. Will be back later. Edith, I am thrilled you are managing so well. Dakota, I don't have a date yet but with any luck ours will coincide!
Okay, must run but will be back a bit later..... love to all!! ♥ ♥ ♥

Love your pix of your horse, he is absolutely beautiful!
-
Your horse is gorgeous...my little boy just said he wants one for xmas...hmmm not sure our backyard would be big enough for a dog let alone a horse!!! Lol
Good Luck Dakota..sounds like you're all set ready to rock this
thing
thinking of you.
Edi...i got me those lemon drops....ahhhh yummo and works a treat!
Im soooo doing the ice thing next cycle...my tongue is so 'fluffy' but if thats all I have to deal with....i'll have the fluffy tongue thanks! Lol
Enjoy your day ladies -
Great pictures .. And great smile!
-
Very kind eyes. I don't think there's a higher compliment for a horse. You two look great! and very pair-bonded, especially in the first photo.
Happy trails.

Hey Benny, great pics of Diamond and you!..how do you post the pics in your message like that?
Edithester I hope your feeling okay now that you are on your way with chemo, you have such a positive attitude I know you will manage through it!
I hope everyone has a SE free week and am sending positive vibes along!..to those that are starting this week you will do just fine. -
Benny, what gorgeous pictures of you and Diamond. You are both beautiful. You sound so much more upbeat now keep it up we will all be out the other side this time next year.Yay !
Traii, thrilled lemon drops helped, as for tongue I bought a toothbrush with a tongue cleaner on the back and gently went over the surface with sensodyne toothpaste. Fluffy tongue ALL GONE.Don't intend having that again if I can avoid it, but as you say if that is the worst thing we have, bring it on. Positive vibes do work I refuse to be anything else.
Bearcub, hope this finds you well, the vibes are working, thank you.How are you feeling ?
Dakota, still sending out calming vibes, as Traii said, you rock this thing.
Today is day day six after chemo and I still feel good. Think I will dress up warm as it is freezing here and go for a walk later.
Momine, hope you are well and happy today.
Gorgeous Monday to you all, ((( hugs ))). Edith.
-
Edithester : i'm off to the shop again tomorrow for some Sensadyne........anything to get rid of this fluffiness ! (I'll be buying more salt the way I'm going about gargling too) ha ha !
Today is my Day 6 too, not sure If I've missed your post somewhere but what chemo drugs are you having?
I'm on Taxotere and today I started having sore nails !!!
Tomorrow is Melbourne Cup Day 'the race that stops the nation' (apparently) so I'll be going out and putting my bets on in the morning....who knows....I've bet the odds of being 1 in 8 with BC maybe I'll win some money just for fun
I'm also having the family over for a BBQ tomorrow too can't wait, I love entertaining and chemo ain't gonna stop me at that
-
So glad I found this forum. I had my Core biopsy on Friday. Get the results on Weds. I have also lost weight everytime I try to eat something I can't. I have a great family wonderful husband. I am 51 go every year for my mammogram.. Found my lump 3 weeks before I was scheduled to go for yearly so I went in sooner. They found a mass on my left Breast at 2 o'clock. The lump I found isn't real hard it feels like scar tissue and is a small almond shape.. I am so scared. The breast surgeon I saw was pretty sure it is cancer so now I am just waiting to see what kind.. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Traii, hi there, on Epi-Cmf, epirubicin, cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and fluorouracil also known as 5FU. ! no wonder we expect SE's from all that lol. Think I have 4 of those and then 4 of something else but can't find paperwork ! Seven pages of SE's from this first one alone.Mine hormone neg so no hormone treatment for me.
Good luck with the tongue mine only lasted one day, what does salt water help with ? have seen it recommended a few times.Sore nails sounds awful, I know you shouldn't have a mainicure except with your own manicure set and only use nail clippers not scissors. I really can't work those, always use scissors so will just be extra careful.
Did you win on the race ? do hope so. BBQ sounds lovely and as you say chemo ain't stopping us having fun.
See one of your operations was three days after mine and on the same side too. I am trying to be sooo careful not to do anything to right hand and arm i.e. cut, burn etc and have finally got into lifting with left arm. How are you coping with it all ?
Edi.
-
Hi Carla, so glad you found us too. Know it is hard but try and stay calm until you know the exact diagnosis. If it is BC just look after yourself so you can get well again quickly. I eat little and often you must keep strong. This waiting is the worse part, keep posting and when you know come back and we will support you.
Edi ((( hugs )))
-
Hi Carla, I am sure hoping your biopsy results come back B9...you have found the perfect site for support. your mass is the same as mine was, 2 o'clock left breast. My surgeon said the same thing almost positive it was cancer...on the mammogram it was picture perfect. I was where you are last June. Now I am done surgery and have my last chemo on Wednesday. Keep up with the foods, you want to try and maintain your weight. You are in the hardest part right now, the testing....waiting for results. We are here for you 24/7. It may sound crazy but it does get easier.
Traii and Edithester it is so nice to chat with ladies from all over the world. I have a aunt and uncle and cousins living north of Sydney at Bonny Hills on the coast near Port MaQuarrie, NSW. I also have a grandfather from Oswestry, Shropshire in the UK.
Good luck with the fuzzy tongues, lol feels weird doesn't it. Mine only last for a few days. I have been on the AC.
Hope you all have a good week, I am feeling good, go for bloodwork tomorrow and last chemo on Wednesday!!!! -
Traii
Hope u won!!!
Carlads-
Welcome, sorry about ur wait. It is the worst part. I read a quite somewhere worrying is like praying for what u don't want. Try not to think about it!!! -
Dont you just hate when you type out a long email replying to all and you loose it...ahhhhhhhhhhh!,
Edi, hey there, I will be on CMF starting 3 cycles day after Christmas.....hope its a lot calmer than Taxotere!
Long list and scary list of Taxotere I tell you but I guess many others have been through it so I'm sure i can too!
They say Salt Water helps with the ulcers.....don't think so much with the fluffy tongue though...lol.
Nails are sore I haven't touched them manicure wise, though I have clear nailpolish on it, a good Sally Hansen one to make them stronger to 'hopefully' stop them from peeling and lifting!
I'm going to ice my mouth next treatment and also thinking of doing my toes and fingernails...I've seen on other boards that they do this so I may give it a try ( if my ice gets there as 'ice' as I have just over an hour drive to the hospital )!!
I was scared, more cautious re post op .... cuts, burns, picking up my son who knew mummy had a 'sore' but just wanted to be cuddled but we still managed lots of cuddles on the couch.
The more I worried about things the worse I was.....I cut my finger while cutting up the veggies one night....it was ok, it healed well but I'm a ditz when it comes to that! Now I've got numbness but not that it bothers me....its mainly under my arm pit so not all that noticeable..only when I go to touch it and i'm like oh..... I can't feel there!
Well I didn't win on the races, BBQ was good though
Thank god I still have my taste buds !! Dessert was yummy...yes I did endulge, but we are women, we can endulge right...right ?? lol of course we can
There's still a chance to win tonight, we have a AUD100 mill lotto draw tonight......got my tickets on for that too.....hmmm I'm not a gambler.....I'm not , honestly....ha ha !!Bearcub, it is nice having you ladies to chat to all over the world
I'm in Melbourne, I've been to Sydney a few times (not as nice as Melbourne ) ha ha !Carla, you are not alone hun...this is the worst part of it all, not knowing but once you have a plan in place then its all go from there....first things first.......meeting with your doctor to see if it is anything and if it is.....next course of action. You have come to the right place, I've learnt so many things from these ladies and everyone is so helpful
I too found my lump 3 weeks before my scheduled mammogram. An ultrasound was then followed straight away when I could tell by the look of the radiographer that it was cancer......everything seemed to fall into place from there and was just go go go.....!
Wish you all the best and keep us posted Carla
Take care ladies and enjoy your day

-
Traii, Hi, the e.mail bit is soooo annoying, spent 25 minutes once doing one then it vanished ! Almost threw net book across room.
Know what you mean about the arm thing, one day putting beautiful roses from a friend into a vase and ouch, thorn right through finger, nearly had the vapours ha ha. All ok but try to be more careful now.Really miss scooping up smallest GD but bless her, cuddles on settee are her thing.
CMF seems much better than Taxotere and if you can cope with that CMF should be a doddle. Salt water info much appreciated will use if mouth ulcers appear.
Glad bbq was good, weather only been good enough through our summer to have a couple. :-(
Hope you did have a win later in the day.
Could you buy ice in a suppermarket near the hospital to use on your next treatment, and take a cool box to keep it in while you are there
7 days later still feel ok, bit weary but think that is boredom. May venture out to get something tasty for tea and my favourite magazines come out today.
Hope you and your little one have a happy cuddly day.
Edi.

Ahh well just put little one to bed....its 10:30pm here and we went to my parents house for a bit so he could stay up 'late' because he just loooves his grandparents.....(mind you thank god they only live 5 minutes drive away) !They have both been my rock through this

Yes CMF does sound much better so fingers crossed I get through 2 more Taxoteres before I start CMF.
Got my cousin over today and she put nice blonde foils throughout my wig which is looking exactly the same as my hair now......thank goodness.....the wigs now a days are soooo much better than my ugly synthetic wig I had back when I was 18 however it got me by then so I must be grateful for it ( and the new natural real hear wigs they have now)!!
Well I didn't win lotto either...lol just my luck!
I'm going to take a cooler bag with me I'm actually going to test it out next week and keep the ice out of the freezer for the hour so that I can see if it will still be ok and phone the hospital to see if they do have a freezer I can put ice in when i get there .... hopefully they say yes!
Whoo hoo, 7 days like me and not too bad SE's ( just bone pain today oh and how can we forget that fluffy tongue I can't say boredom with my son around, whats boredom...lol)
Enjoy your little venture out today Edi...... go get those magazines and have yourself a cuppa (and a bicky) and curl up on the couch....ahhhh......take care
Traii

Ladies, taxotere just sucks, but this too shall pass. As for the fuzzy mouth that is thrush from having low white blood counts. It really helps to take a pro-biotic supplement, acidophilus or similar. I took a triple-dose of pro-biotics around chemo and a double-dose the rest of the time. I kept taking it with femara as well.
-
Quick question for anyone. When I originally went in to see my Surgeon he did say by the looks of things, (this was before the biopsy) he didn't think I would need an MRI. He was going off the Mammo and Ultra sound. Any thoughts? Just trying to get prepared for what might come tomorrow.
You all are great!
Carla
-
Traii, made it out to supermarket. Had to pick up something from the pharmacy while I was there, one of the girls is a few years out from BC. Turns out she had exactly same chemo as I am having. She gave me an idea of what to expect and then came out from behind the counter to give me a big hug ! BC sisters really are great,
I envy you your parents, I soooo need my Mum right now.. Her picture is on the wall next to my chair and I look at it when I am a bit low and just wish I could hear her voice.
Sorry no lotto win, ours is tomorrow and Saturday everything crossed.
Wow wig sounds great. Mine tomorrow, it will be acrylic ,real hair too expensive. Might go for bright pink afro ! lol.
It is 6.30pm here tea time, having lovely cup of bovril, yum. Watching Bones on tv, really gory crime programme about a forensic anthropologist. DH can't watch it as it is quite gruesome ha ha.Got afternoon out with friends tomorrow after wig fitting. Really need fun and laughter and I will get it with them. Picking little 5 yr old GD up from school and she is coming for tea I can't wait.
Hope cool bag does the trick. Here's to no more se's.
Carlads. I only had mammogram and ultra, MRI don't seem to be given here very often. Think too expensive. Thinking of you, hope all ok tomorrow. Keep in touch.
Momine, Hope you are ok.
Edith
-
Edith you sound like you are managing your chemo great, positive attitude can go a long way. Have a great time tomorrow with friends and tea with your darling GD....
Carla I never had an MRI either, just mammogram, US, biopsy, chest xray, surgery and a CT scan as the doctor thought she felt something around my liver. No MRI. CT came back all clear as did all my organs. Chest X-ray normal. Your doctor may suspect from the mamm and US that the mass is very small. -
Hi Ladies
momine, how did you go with Taxotere....any major side effects or any suggestions you have to help I'm all ears!! ? sounds like we would have been on the same chemos however they have changed my FEC to CMF as I can't have the E part due to having past chemo Adrimycin which you can only have a certain amount of the 'heart' drug in a life time....!
I'll call my chemo ward tomorrow to see if I can take a pro-biotic like inner health plus or something (thanks soooo much for that tip)
As for the fuzzy tongue, that happened on the 2nd day didn't think it would be due to low Blood Counts...that early along anyway
Carla I too had mammogram, Ultrasound, biopsy, lumpectomy, node removal, then full node removal, CT scan, bone scan and Chest scans....I requested MRI (we don't pay as public patients in Australia) and even the MRI didn't find any positive nodes however 2/2 came back positive after biopsy !!!
Edi, its amazing when we say we have BC how many people 'come out' and say they had it too or know of someone. My local lady that takes my bloods lifted her top up one day and showed me her bra 'padded' with no boobie.....she is a survivor from 1995 and the lady from the IVF place I went to see had BC in 1997 and had a double masectomy...it makes you happy hearing long term survivor stories ! You are so right, BC Sisters are great!
Naaw, your mum will be with you right now helping you through this, thats why you are such a strong person getting through this day by day with her by your side, she'd be so proud of you and your strong positive attitude!
How did you go wig shopping today and your lunching
Hope you ended up with that bright pink afro....lolI actually found a place in Beijing that ship direct from factory and they were 75% cheaper than the real human hair wigs you buy from wig shops here in Melbourne ! I even paid express & had it measured up to my head! so if you didn't end up finding the one you truely want today let me know and I'll give you that name of the place I went through.
I love Bones too.....tonight its Criminal Minds night.....double episode, its sad , thats all thats on now a days, crime! my DH also hates gruesome tv.... I love watching that Embaressing Bodies and stuff like that, but no he hates all that sort of stuff!
Well hope you had an amazing day filled with fun and laughter with your friends and an even better arvo / evening with your GD and made something extra yummy for dessert.....lol
Good Luck for tomorrow Dakota (well it's the 8th Nov here in Australia) with your first treatment.....hope everything runs smoothly for you with no SE's
