Hi zohra -
I'm so sorry your mom is going through this but she's lucky to have you. I've been to doctors at both Inova and Hopkins and they are both fine hospitals. Inova would be much more convenient for you, and if they can treat your mom without insurance then maybe you should go there for the MRI and biopsy. I've had MRIs there (through Fairfax Radiology) and the doctors at Hopkins were fine with using their imaging for my treatment. Your mom will be in my thoughts. Take care.

Thanks again

I think any of the doctors at Inova Fairfax or Fair Oaks would be fine. Call Lianne Tedesco, the breast care navigator at Inova Fairfax - she's amazingly knowledgeable and helpful.

Dr. Hernan Vargas of Virginia Surgery Associates is not far from Falls Church; he is in Fair Oaks Hospital area--good bedside manner as well as well as excellent surgical skills.
Dr. Nicholas Robert of Virginia Cancer Specialists in Fairfax is excellent oncologist but not warm; completely up to date on research about the most effective chemo for whatever type of breast cancer your mom has but don't expect him to radiate warmth. Ann Favret, MD, is in same practice and might be a little less distant.
All three work out of INOVA hospitals but don't know if they take patients without insurance. Can't hurt to ask around.

Before the biopsy, consider calling this number for Virginia's National Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). As I understand it, IF you are diagnosed with cancer by a mammogram at one of these facilities, then your treatment can be free. Doesn't work if you're diagnosed at another doctor's office. May be worth calling them.
To find out if you qualify for a free or low-cost mammogram and Pap test and where to get screened, call:
• 1 (866) 395-4968 (in state)
Here's more information about the NBCCEDP: http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/ofhs/prevention/ewl/documents/2012/provider/manual/1-BCCPTA.pdf
