Missed Radiation due to Hurricane Sandy

Options

The hospital hasn't had power for 8 days now - they closed before the hurricane hit - so haven't given treatments since October 26th.  Does missing treatments diminish its effectiveness?

Dr. Weiss, our President and Founder is a radiation oncologist at Lankenau Hospital. She says that studies have shown there to be a drop in benefit by a long treatment break.

When is it estimated that you will be able to restart?

Dr. Weiss has said that Lankenau Hospital, outside of Philadelphai, would be able to step in and provide radiation oncology services for those people who need to restart assuming  we an get their medical records and their insurance would work in Pa. Also, we could try to get favorable hotel rates at Hilton/City Line Ave, Philadelphia.

If there is significant need, I am sure we could get our best people working to facilitate the transfer.

Is this something you, or others, would be interested in?

Also, we could possibly extend this to breast surgical services, if there is a need.

    Dear BCO Team,

Please thank Dr. Weiss and Lankenau Hospital.  I was making plans to go (my mom - the patient had a stroke and is partially paralyzed, my dad is blind and we have 2 big dogs to plan for - so it would be quite an undertaking but I felt it was important to resume treatment) and then I received a call telling us that the power was restored;  treatment resumes today - 10 days since the last treatment - so I have concerns about the long term effectiveness.  We have another storm on the way so I will keep your kind offer in mind.  There are many others who are still without power and who missed treatments - and are frightened to leave their homes because there are no traffic lights.  I appreciate your quick response in addressing these matters.

    Friendly regards,

Susan (daughter of breast cancer patient & cancer survivor)
