payment for blood transfusions

Options

i qualify for medicare as of jan 2013.  i now have cobra from my work for another 9 months.  i need occasional transfusions which my cobra has paid for in full, but i heard that medicare does not pay for the first 3 transfusions per year.  has anyone had to pay for a transfusion and if so how much. if its going to be very expensive i will stay on my cobra even though its more expensive than medicare supplement. thanks ,  no one at medicare can answere this question for me.

You would need to contact the provider to find out what they would bill and then compare the price to your cobra premiums to see how you come out better. Cobra premiums are so high & I have no idea how much a transfusion costs.

The hospital where I received transfusions charged $900 for two units.  Of course, that's the cash price, and insurance paid far less than that.
