What's your storm story...(East Coasters)

Not sure what I think of this storm--are we on the verge of an epic mess, or is it going to fizzle out? It is blustery here, and snow forecast for the next two days! In October. In the southeast.

    Geez, when I was there last year at this time, I wore T-shirts hiking...and now it's going to snow?!?

    My brother lives in Laurel, Maryland. He's stocked up on kerosene, gas for his generator, candles, canned food, water, and plenty of beer! He's planning to ride it out in luxury!

    We're under wildfire watch here in San Diego County, as the arid, hot santa ana winds are blowing in from the east. There was a small fire about five miles from my place today. Seems the firefighters and SWAT team were practicing with a smoke device and caught the dry grass on fire...of all people, you'd think they'd know better!

    I am near DC and they predict Tuesday to be the worst.  Rain begins later today.  My apartment is cozy, with a real fireplace,  and I should have enough of everything to ride it out.  If not, I will go knocking on other apartment doors... and "meet the neighbors".....    Keep safe.

    Up near Boston area I'm not too concerned yet...taken all necessary precautions and now it is just time to hunker down and wait till it is over....no different than a blizzard really and we have generator so it does make potentially losing power a little easier to handle.

    Nothing happening yet in NYC, except the mayor going on tv every few hours.  Just a cloudy sky all day.  I hope it gets downgraded.

    My parents live near Princeton NJ and they are hunkered down and ready. My dad made one last trip to the supermarket this morning and said many shelves were bare. Please stay safe everyone.

    I'm in Central PA. Boys are out of school tomorrow (and I'm guessing Tuesday). I have all the stuff in off the porch and deck. Looking forward to trying to get the dogs outside tomorrow (they are spoiled). Rain and wind will suck! Will keep everyone posted.

    I am in Philly. Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday. The downed power lines from the winds are what will linger for quite some time after sandy leaves. If this hits us as expected, it will be the worst storm I have ever been through, and I am 49. Hopefully it won't live up to the hype.

    Welp, my inclination now is Sandy will be an epic mess, not a fizzle. It has been blowing here at 25 mph gusts out of the NNW all day, and I am about as far from the storm as you can get and still be in the Carolinas, being in the western mountains. But it is the cold--37 degrees right now-- that is so unusual. Friday evening, 48 hours ago, I sat at a sidewalk cafe with temperatures in the 70's. Have hauled all the geraniums, begonias, herbs, and hanging baskets into the kitchen which now resembles a disorganized florist shop.

    Hope nobody has radiation or chemo treatments that will be interrupted, and that everybody has bread, milk, eggs and D batteries. (There are none left in the Carolinas.)Stay clear of falling trees and check in!

    In Mass near Boston as well.  Everything off the deck and just sort of waiting. Have water, but we always do, PB and J, Fluff, cheese, crackers, fruit.   No school for my high schooler in the AM.  Not really worried, expect to be without power for some time.   My pup looks like Toto so he will blow away in the wind, we may have to walk him Mon and Tuesday. Maybe I can get one of my kids to do that LOL!

    I am in Western PA.....we are expecting sustained winds of 40 MPH with gusts up to 70, starting tomorrow morning.  Not as bad as our friends in Central and Eastern PA, but it will be quite wet and blustery!  The problem is the cold front coming from Canada is mixing it up with Sandy and they are certain she will want to hang out for a few days!!

    All schools are closed here in northern Virginia, across from DC.   coastal flooding is guaranteed,  5-10 inches ofrain.   Rain now and some wind gusts and 52 degrees.    If your geography is as bad as mine, There is a big river - the Potomac and that is where the flooding will be here.

    Hi all! I am in northeast Ohio where we typically have dreary weather anyway this time of year but this week, since Satruday, we are in for rain and lots of wind!!  Hope all of you on the coast and close to the coast stay safe and warm!!!!

    I'm in Harrisburg PA. Called off work and waiting to get hit! Parents live close by and they have a generator and a gas fireplace so if power goes out for too long I will bead over there and get cozy! Definitely expecting a flooded cellar. Hooing the close trees don't fall on my house.

    On Long Island, the flooding has already started on the south shore, and the bad part won't even be here until tonight!!!

    no power for 14 hours, but this area is mostly back to whatever normal is.

    Haven't heard from New York and New Jersey Stage 3ers. Probably don't have power yet. The wind finally stopped blowing here late this afternoon after 4 days, but now...lots of snow.

     No damage here, but Mother in Laws house in Longport, NJ. Streets two feet deep in sand. Wont let us back in yet....

    We just got our power back last night- we live in Point Pleasant- the beach got hit really hard- the ocean came in about 3-4 city blocks- we are in the Boro (inland) so we didn't get flooded- but we are surrounded by water and a lot of the town and our neighbors and my mom did.
    Parts of the town still is without power, internet, cell phone...... supermarket is so damaged and there's no way to get food. No power. Thankfully we are up- all our neighbors are helping each other. The gas lines are NUTS!!!!! we are trying not to drive too much to save on gas.

    I tell ya what- how about forgetting I have cancer for 2 days for the first time since April??? What a freaking welcome feeling, despite all this crap.

    We went down to the beach and it looked like they were plowing a 10 foot blizzard but it was all sand. the photos i got were crazy. boats in the street like cars!

    My bmx finally arrives next friday- Thankfully my hospital is 50 miles west of me in Mount Holly!
    I hear of another storm coming next week.

    I truly think I have apocalyptic breasts.

    Mandala--Thanks for checking in--you were one of the ones I have been wondering about. Glad to hear you were not flooded, but it sounds wretched anyway. I am a former Jersey girl, and can't comprehend the pictures I see on TV of old familiar places.

    It will all get sorted out. New Jersey is too gutsy, too feisty, to stay down for long, even for the storm of the century. Take care, Weesa

    I am in central NJ and many people here still do not have power.  Thankfully, I do.  My parents and grandparents grew up in Manasquan/Wall so I spent much of my childhood there.  Does anyone know how people along the Manasquan River fared-specifically the Brielle area near the bridge (Bogan's Marina) as well as near Bass Point Drive in Wall?  I have no relatives there now, just an emotional connection.

    My son graduated from college two years ago. His best friend from college was from Brooklyn. She died in Huuricane Sandy. She was out walking her dog and was killed by a tree that fell, so was a friend of hers who was walking with her. I am in utter shock. Her poor parents, family and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts.

    I am sorry for your loss, Kay.... that is terrible....my love goes out to your sons friends fmaily and friends.....

    caaclark, the bridge area of Brielle/Manasquan seemed to fare well considering.  I drove down there a few times since... LOTS of trees down, but overall ok- I saw a boat deposited on train tracks in Mansquan from the River- 71 was closed off for a while.... it seems ok.

    our Bay Head to Seaside is GONE. It was always a nice place to go when you needed to just get out of the house and go sit.
    the beach. just 2 miles away from my door.

    ugh. all gone. all that Mantoloking devastation --- I had just driven that road 4 days before. It was the peaceful alternate road home from doctors appointments, the mall,... its very close to home here. So much gone. It's part of our hearts out here. Our lives. Our work as local business owners and employees.....
