Jana - As you may or may not know, I had the LAT flap done and I just love my results. I did have to have a few minor revisions done - office procedures. For me and just about anyone you talk to that has had this done, the drains are the worst part. I went back to work one week after I got out of the hospital and yes, with the drains. My office in the summer is only open half days and I was able to sit at my desk and do computer work al day. Sure beat staying at home and bored to tears. If you are considering this, you can PM me with any and all questions.
-
Jana sorry to hear that, hope you get the results you're looking for. it can be hard espcially after radiation has damaged the skin...

Hi I'm Christy, I'm 35 and was diagnosed with Stage 2 IDC on May 25th 2012 (4 days after my 35th birthday). I live in the North Texas area. I have been married to my best friend for 11 years, I have two kids my son Stephen 16 is a junior in HS, my daughter Taylor is 11 and is in 6th grade. I just came across this today and thought it was a wonderful to have people in the same area as me.
-
Hi Christy! Glad you found us!
Fellow North Texan :-)
Cheri

Welcome Christy! I'm a Fort Worther.
Lori -
Thank you all so much for the welcome! We should all plan a get together soon. Someplace close by all, Frisco or Plano?
-
Christy glad you found this thread- i am in South texas but there is a good group of north texans
-
Thank you for all the greetings. I cant believe there are so many of us in texas. For the longest i felt i was the only one.
iknow that wasnt true. How is everyone today?
-
I am up for a meet and greet since I just got here :-) I can go anywhere in north DFW area as I'm not yet working so I have the time.

I, too, would love to get together. I turned in my resignation this week, last day Nov. 30th. Hopefully I won't have to go back to work full time if at all. Next year will look into flu shot clinics to make extra. Love hospice nursing just can't take hours it takes/demands. So, open to times but have gobs of appts in December.
I live NW of Ft Worth. Irving, Las Colinas would be easy for me as somewhere in between. Dallas not so much. Just the long drive time. LBJ, 35E area OK. I'd just buzz on down 635. Used to live in Garland so can still find my way around OK with a Google map refresher. That's how I found my way to Las Colinas to meet my friend 2 years ago. Probably about 1.5 hours. If you wanted to do Denton OK too. See if anyone else interested. Invited Robin from 2012 sisters to join us on this thread.
-
Robin and I are meeting up this Friday in Denton as she lives in Coppel. I think we should all meet up either at grapevine mills mall. We could scavenger hunt and eat at rainforest cafe. How much fun would that be????
Today I'm with my granny who is a 46 yr bc survivor. She was diagnosed at 31 with the same form as me. She's amazing! -
I hope y'all have fun. I would live to meet you (I've been dying to go to the new H&M at Grapevine Mills) but I am going to Washington DC next week with my daughter's 7th grade class.
Lori -
Lori, we will definitely plan a day! And anyone that wants to do it let us know.

If you need a PS Dr. Alan Dulin is who is doing my recon him ad his staff are wonderful people. Just throwing out names for you.
-
Lovely!!! I found the Texas group thanks to luvmygoats and christy!! Thanks for the invite! I am not far from Grapevine mills at all....about 5 mins!! A scavenger hunt sounds like fun! Would be nice to meet up as a group! It really does make some of this tolerable to have so many sharing in this journey!
-
I grew up in Denton and live in Dallas.
-
Welcome Melissa, I live in Pilot Point and work in Denton. Small world.
-
Grapevine Mills Mall would be great!
-
Emily- glad you found us. maybe we can set something up for next weekend if all the DFW area girls are up for it.
-
Wow - I just happened upon this part of the site tonight....Can't believe how many ladies are here from Texas. I live in Little Elm. Cherilynn, if you are still looking for a breast surgeon, I had Lynn Canavan and for PS, Jason Potter. Love both!
-
Thanks for more recommendations - love that there are so many good doctors here! Luckilly I didn't need a plastic surgeon (although as a 32A it crossed my mind long before stupid BC).....but need a medical onc this month for 3 month follow up and breast surgeon by Feb. So I have some time to look for the right one there, but med onc I'd better make a decision on.
I'd totally love to meet you all if Grapevine Mills mall works!

Cheri- just a suggestion- my biggest regret for my surgery wasnt not going with a plastic surgeon and just going with a breast surgeon because a plastic surgeon pay close attention to aesthetic detail whereas a breast surgeon (or at least mine) focused on just getting the job done right. If i had a chance to do it all over again i would have gone with a PS
-
Hi Texas Rose,
Luckilly for me, I only had the lumpectomy and it was on the upper quadrant. Without the scars you can't even tell I had an invasive tumor removed. Being 32A I didn't have much to start with anyways, lol, and my breast surgeon, who is a double mastectomy patient herself, was so careful with me. I am very lucky I found her - she did a great job. Glad I can say things like "lucky" and "breast cancer" in the same paragraph :-)
If God forbid I get this again, I already told her, and will tell the next surgeon, that I would have them take them both and do reconstruction. I hope it never comes to that but will want to be prepared if it does happen.

Hello Ladies,
I just found this part of the site and noticed the talk of meeting up in the DFW area. Did that already happen or has it been planned? I live in the area (Garland) and would like to get together if possible. -
hi LLr010200- No we have not met up yet, but are all still wanting too. I think we have all liked the idea of Grapevine Mills mall. We would love to have you join up with us as soon as we get a date set. So any of you other ladies have a date that would work for ya'll lets throw out some dates.
Christy
-
I would love to join a get together too. I am in Richardson but can get to Grapevine Mills quite easily....
-
grt42btexan-I'm so glad that there are so many of us in a close proximity. If ya'll can come up with a date that would work that would be wonderful. I can't wait to meet all of you.
-
Most anytime after Nov. 30th would work for me. Grapevine Mills sounds fine. Never been there. Think I can find it but worry a little about the construction. I rarely go east of Loop 820 though DD lives in Euless.
-
So here's the next question does anyone want to bring spouses? My DH is very leary about me meeting up on my own. Lol! But I would so love a meet up. If that weekend works for everyone I think that could work. that would be the weekend of my surgery! What a stress relief that would be?!
-
I don't have a spouse, so I'll leave that decision to those of you all that have one :-)
