A few questions

For those of us with daughters, does this diagnosis put them at any higher risk for BC like we are?

Was anyone advised to have any type of scans done, like a PET scan?  I was never told to have anything like that done.  Has anyone been told they would need PET scans or other types of scans due to LCIS?  Thanks.

I don't know if it is considered a genetic risk.

You would not get any scans as it is only a condition that requires close monitoring. It is not cancer per se, it just predisposes you to a higher risk to develop cancer in the future.

rosy--yes, it does put our daughters at higher risk. They advise looking at the daughters 10 to 12 years before the mom's diagnosis, or by age 40, whichever comes first.  My mom was diagnosed at 57; I actually started mammos at age 34. I was diagnosed at age 46, so that would put my daughter at 34 to be screened, but I'll be pushing for her to be screened at age 30. In the meantime, I just encourage her to live a healthy lifestyle--eat right, exercise, try to keep a healthy weight, don't smoke, etc, do BSEs, and get CBEs as well.

    anne,

OMG, I didn't know that.  One oncologist I saw in NY, and my daughter was sitting right next to me, asked him if she was at a higher risk for BC and he looked right at both of us and said NO.

If you have Lcis it increases your risk for BC but you may never get it and hopefully you never will. The oncologist wasn't lying to you, daughters who have a family history of BC have a higher risk. LCIS is not considered BC.

She has the same risk as any woman, with that being said, so many women on this board have not had any family history (including me) so like with any woman nowadays she should be vigilant.
