Summer 2012 RADS HANG OUT

Jp I had nausea a few x during RADS. Vomitted 1X.
-
jpmomof3 - I never had any nausea, though I tended to get tired near the end of the week during the last three weeks. I think some people do develop nausea. You might want to check with your nurse or doctor about it.
I just finished my treatment two days ago and it feels soooo good to be done!

stacie i have to reply to the post of 9/29; tamox is NOT only for pre menopausal women--we cannot just make a blanket statement like that---those "post can" take it and many do--however, tamox is not suggested for ppl on antidepressants which i am( i take an SSRI) ...also femara has different SEs and the benefits seem to weigh in better...i have been researching this and am still somewhat on the fence about which i would prefer to take but in the long run i will go with what my MO suggests if he can back up with stats that are satisfactory to me when i look at the possibilty of bone loss and high cholesterol.i don't want to have to take meds for those but will if it means reducing my recurrence risk....i've come too far in this!
as of yesterday; i have 6 rads left and will finish up next friday since we are doubling up on wednesday! i have one pink boob and one "natural" boob and mild discomfort in my tx side nipple- with aquaphor on the nipple it is manageable and i am gelling on the rest of the boob...just really anxious to be "done" with active tx--will miss my rads gals but won't miss the daily interruption!
-
First time I heard of Tamox being recommended for postmenopausal women. You've obviously done your homework. That's a good thing.
-
Thanks ladies. The nausea isn't so bad now. Seems to be related to fatigue. If I get a good nights sleep I am better off...
Going for rads number 20 of 33 today. -
Hope it goes away JP!

Hello Everyone,
I'm here from the April/May chemo hang-out (although it's been awhile since I posted there). Finished up TCH on 9/14, have had 3 weeks in a row of herceptin and now to every 3 weeks regime until May 2013 and today I have my first of 30 rads. Ready to get started and ready to be finished! If all goes as planned, hopefully my last rad will be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving - so keeping my fingers crossed for that.
-
Rgina: Congrats on finishing one leg of your treatment. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. We have a lot more to be thankful for this holiday, don't we?
-
Isn't that the truth KJ, ready to be done. Your pic looks great, see that your hair is coming back in nicely. I'm totally grey, can't wait until I can dye my hair/fuzzies. The hair loss never bothered me, but this grey is driving me nuts! Feel like it makes me look 80 years old.
-
Rgina: Colored my hair 8 weeks PFC. Couldn't stand the gray. I didn't have much. It was more pepper than salt. I felt so much better after I did it. It's didn't look so chemo-like. Thanks for the compliment. I will try to take another pic soon so you can see how much it's grown since then--4 weeks ago! I get a ton of compliments on it. Someone today said it looks like the old Vidal Sasoon look from the 60's
-
8 weeks, PFC - that would land me to dye the week before Thanksgiving! I am so on it:) BTW I love my radiation techs, although they can't be more than 30 ish, they always have great music on the Pandora station while I'm getting rads. Today was 60's-70's music and some old Motown. Made it hard to lay still, but certainly made it pleasant. Wonder if they play age appropriate music per patient:)
-
My techs played great music during my treatment also, and they were very young too. Never thought about them changing the music to each patient, but maybe they do! I liked it!
-
I am 4 weeks post RADS and am healed so much already. I can barely detect any difference in my skin. Just a dry spot or two. The body is amazing.
-
Stacie: Congrats. When I went for my 2-week check up, the redness was almost entirely gone. The body is very amazing.
-
Hi i just finished chemo last week and im going to meet the radiologist today for my consultation. I cant wait to be finished and have no dr appt for awhile. Im hoping it wont be to bad on my skin. Hope everyone has a nice day.
-
Jane64. I concur with others on this board...radiation is not bad it all...I was nervous at first, mostly of the unknown, the machine etc....my skin was tender toward the end but it really is amazing how quickly your body recovers. You will be just fine!
-
Thank you chapter4 that helps.
-
Hey ladies,
I am one day away from finishing my rads. I had 31 regular treatements and 8 boosts. I'll walk over to outpatient surgery to get my port out in the afternoon. Been quite a ride these last nine months but couldn't have made it without you.
Trish
-
woohoo to one more day!
-
Just checking in to wish all a great day. Thumbs up for those about to finish!! We have made it:())) To anyone about to start- you can do it. It really goes fast and the body is amazing at healing. I'm 5 weeks out and my skin is back to normal. I was able to wear a bra again after about three weeks post rads.
Hope everyone is having a great day!!! -
I got a lot of courage yesterday after completing treatment and having my final surgery so took a new picture to display! First one of my new and growing hair. A little sore today but so glad its over. So many hugs and congrats yesterday from a wonderful team of cancer caregivers.
-
Pkate: Congrats and your pic looks great! Your hair is coming in nicely!
-
Day 14 of rads, broken out and itchy in the area of a V which would be the V of a V neck shirt, where I've had maximum sun exposure. This too is doable like the rest of this freaking journey - using Cetaphil lotion over the counter recommended by my radiation doc and Aquaphor and hydrocortisone creme all at the same time. And, wearing to bed those wonderful aloe vera infused gloves like the aloe socks - that keep me from shredding my skin while I sleep. My old sun weathered hands are looking great:):)
I never lost all hair from chemo - TCH which I finished on 9/14 but it was seriously thin/spotty and at 62 years young it was coming back totally white in the last month, so Saturday I found a bottle of root touch up in the bathroom cabinet and thought what the heck! So new picture with new dyed fuzzy head is my new pic.
-
rgina: I love the new pic. Your hair is really coming in. It looks great.
-
Thanks, just be glad when I get some bangs! The funny thing is that I have about this 2 inch or so piece of hair at the nape of my neck - a mullet! LOL
-
Congrats Pkate!!!! Coming back to Houston sometime soon? Let me know.....
-
Hi Everyone!
i just started my radiation yesterday on my breast. Have ya'll heard of using 100% EMU oil in stead of the aquafor and euserin?
Someone also told me that they used 100% aloe vera gel and never had any problems with radiation.
Appreciate any input I can get from ya'll.
Have a great day!
-
Hi Everyone!
I am wanting to know what kind of a bra ya'll got when you are going through breast radiation. I know that I won't be able to continue wearing my regular one.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Had my 2nd radiation treatment today.
-
Pauletta - I wore sports type bras. I love the ones from Target, champions I think. Very soft and comfy!
-
thank you onvacation! I will check there tomorrow
