Yes, but wasn't it like a cup of ice cream?

One of the premium ice creams is about that for about 1/2 a cup, so you got more to enjoy.

The calories aren't so bad but the fat is terrible. Is the Asian salad low-fat?

    Kari,
I am sure that the salad cancelled out the sundae!!!
I tried the salad after reading about it in "Hungry Girl"-I love that site.
They forgot to give me almonds, but that is okay since I eat too many almonds daily anyway. But I found the dressing to be very hot! I only used half of the package and it was still too hot. But I would definitely get it again.
So I was bad today-pigged out on Hersheys kisses.
I promise to be good tomorrow!

Salad with grilled chicken is 10g. I didn't care for it. Will go back to the Cobb (11g) or Grilled Chicken Bacon Ranch (9).

6.4oz is what they list the ice cream sundae as.

Does the count on the sundae include the hot fudge?

We're at a meeting and bil took us to a Mexican restaurant for dinner--I can see why we hardly ever do that!!!Nothing low fat that I could see on the menu. DH and I split an enchilada meal and I felt guilty the whole time. Oh well, special time and there's always tomorrow ( today it's back to salads).

Then I was relaxing this a m with the today show and they had a spot on those low fat , sugar free muffins from various places: first of all, about 1/4 of those huge ones is a serving. And the only ones that were low fat were a triple berry from Panera Bread and a berry of some kind from Starbucks.

I do think McD's has some of the lowest fat ice cream that's not labeled low fat of all the fast food-type shakes and sundaes. But stay away from the McFlurry's!!!
On their salads, I usually ask for one of the lowfat dressings or vinigreitte (sp) even if it doesn't come with it. No matter what the dressing, a little chicken on lettuce has the burgers/fries combo beat for us lowfat watchers.

Muffins are very deceptive. I was at a store looking at their low-fat muffins and on the nutritional information they list a serving as 1/2 a muffin. I think that's a little backhanded, to advertise them as low-fat but then note that you can only eat 1/2 of one. Most people just snarf down the whole thing, deluded as to the fat content.

I have a mini-muffin pan that makes 24. I like to make muffins in that. I can't get them eaten before they go bad so I freeze them.

I just ate the last one of a batch today so that will be this weekends project.

Rose - yes that number includes hot fudge. Sounds like you have a fun holiday weekend planned!! lol.

Ginger, at Mexican places I usually go for fajitas. I have them leave the cheese and sour cream off the side plate they bring - just lettuce and tomato. Those aren't too bad.

Since I could envision that much fat and calories on the ice cream alone I think the McD sundae sounds pretty efficient.

It's the enchalidas and tamales and things where everything is all baked up together and drowned in a cheesy/creamy sauce that are the real killers. I'm also always suspicious of refried beans, which should be healthy but are sometimes made with lard.

Thanks for the tip on Mexican, we just don't do it enough for me to have a clue--but fajitas make sense. I do skipped the refried beans and take double rice.(Beans are supposed to be good for you, but I think it depends on which kind and I don't like refried anyway.)

We had Culvers' salads tonight and I had one from McD's for lunch--trying to cancel out the enchilada!!!

Eatting out is just plain difficult. I think splitting a portion is probably a sane thing to do. An awful lot of mainstream resturants put way too much food on the plate.

Yes, way too much food at most places. DH does help me out and split a meal with me on occasion. It doesn't take a lot of food to satisfy the hunger pangs.

We're ecologically motivated and prefer smaller portions or splitting to taking stuff home in a nonbiodegradable-for- 500-years container. Not that we don't do that--sometimes we just don't want the same dinner!

There is a resturant, kind of a cross between fast food and full-service near here that has just-right portions. It's close to the movies so I always try to steer us there.

The other issue with doggie bags is that sometimes you can't refigerate properly if you are going out afterwards. More of a summertime issue...

Right, Rose. That's an issue when vacationing too.

Another thing that bothers me as lending to a lot of the obesity in the US is the combos and supersizing that are cheaper than buying one of the more healthy menu items. The burger/fries/drink cost about the same as the salad alone! The chicken sandwich is always more costly that the big burger. But with willpower it's doable. Otherwise dieters ought to stay away from the fast food type places.

We stick to salads as much as we can. No matter what the calories--and some salads do have quite a few depending on the toppings and dressing you choose-- the saturated and trans fats are way down. And those are the ones to avoid.

I didn't find THE wraps from WalMart but I did break down and buy some others. They're so big the plan is to cut them in half.

So ladies, what to put in my whole-wheat wraps?

That was good! A meal in a wrap.

I found the 80 calorie, 14g gram variety at the store. So now I have two packages.

I just use the Oscar Mayer deli meat and put that in with lettuce, tomato and fat free italian dressing. Quick, easy and yum!

My staff have started looking at Dr. Phil's diet book. It has a 2 week kicker which will have you losing weight quickly. I lost six pounds last week. Mind you, I don't think I have ever eaten this many veggies in so many meals in my life. And lots of times I find myself eating different things than the family.
Today I had a v8 for lunch. I just wasnt' hungry. The staff laughed and said that the diet makes you lose weight by taking away your hunger!
Dr. Phil's premise is that if you aren't eating the sweet, your body won't want it.
His diet is low fat, and FULL of fiber.

my best friend since high school swears by this diet, but it sure does take a lot of time and energy chopping vegetables , taking right food with you, ettc...

i am craving so much protein lately as i am doing a lot of physical labor...have had to add a lot more meat, mostly chicken and pork...

fortunately, i like everything prepared in a low fat, organic, healthful style....but soo much more protein as i get more physical!

my fantasy is to rent a home for a spell up around prince edward island...

    love the beach...

    life is a beach...

Is it the only Dr. Phil diet book? I'll have to read it.

I have found that once I get ice cream out of the fridge I don't think about it so much.

Laura - I thought you were in the ranks of the unemployed. Have you taken something new?

    Rose,
My days of unemployment are drawing to an end, as I look for new opportunities and a fresh start, I am fixing up my house and putting it on the market in the next couple weeks...son is graduating and then we move south, son to school in north county san diego and me

    finally

happily enscounced with my boyfriend in the o.c.

lots of labor and stress, but really working hard at enjoying the process...

i am like you, rose, as long as the ice cream is not in the house, i don't look for it...

but lately, i find myself heading over to safeway for some kind of treat...

my guess is you would call this emotional eating?

enjoy your day wherever you can!

I think emotional eatting is when you can't stand the way things are and drown your sorrows in a pint of Ben&Jerry's. I think with emotional eating you should get a release from your emotional distress, at least temporarily. Like people who drink too much to forget their problems.

A trip to Safeway for a treat wouldn't seem to quite fall into that category. Are you diswrought when you decide to go, or just sick of cleaning house? I bike to the bagel place for a bagel/coffee and don't consider that emotional eating, it's just something to do.

Anybody a recovered emotional eatter who can shed light on this for us?

Humm - changing the post line back to high-fiber/low-fat. That was Theresa's title and I want us to keep it.

Went to the Komen race today. The 'survivor' goodie bag had a booklet from Safeway. Wonderful looking dishes, but not low fat. Still the cherry salsa and the fruit with black pepper sauce looked good.

Also the iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk. If I open a can of that to put some in my coffee I'll be a gonner.
