I am home in my own bed! It feels so good, have lots of pillows my girls cleaned the house and they are ready to take care of me
Jenn i heard from lady in waiting room that stage two is a breeze. Seems like they could just suck some out with a little lipo
I havnt read my dc instructions they gave me. When can i switch to a pretty bra.
Ahhh pain pills kicking in. Havnt had any all day
And my bladder seems smaller.is itcause my tummy is so tight
So glad to be back in VA -
Jenn... Here in the US we pay separately for surgeries also... For me, I had surgery July/August 2011 and a stage II surgery in November... and I still have some swelling. You may not think you are swollen, but I am sure you are still quite swollen. When I went into my stage II surgery, my breasts were much different than they are today. have faith.
-
texmingo...what did you do to get physically ready?
-
This is all good to hear. I may have freaked out if I came out of surgery much bigger. I really want to stay an A cup.
Aaahhh, it's 4 am and I can't sleep again. I have so much left to do at work and diep is getting here so fast! I didn't want to be stressed beforehand. At least things at home are about set. I feel like I've been nesting like I'm expecting a baby (or two!). Lol!
Fran you sound so good now that you're home, and texmingo so glad it went well. Rest up you two!
Jenn will ooph be laproscopic? You've done so well with diep... The next one should be a breeze!
I agree, we are all "tough as nails" and on those days when we're just not so much, we get strength from each other! -
Hmmm, I'm still laying here wide awake and I guess what's really on my mind are 2 things...
1. Worried about final path being invasive and triple negative. I have a tender spot under my arm and have just been waiting, thinking about it growing all this time.
2. Bs doesn't use lidocaine with
Snb tracer and I've heard it can be painful. My boobs are already so sore b/c it's the end of the month.
Seems silly to worry about with all the pain expected after surgery but at least I'll have meds then.
There are some pros and cons to doing all this in one big surgery. I know many of you have gotten through so much treatment and multiple surgeries. I think I'll be better when I know how long my road is gonna be! -
cg1234, my Radiologist did not use lidocaine with the SNB either. I really wish he would have. The person my girfriend went to did and she had a much easier time. Beg a little.
-
@cg1234, will the radiologist refuse lidocaine even if you ask for it? However even if he does, it may not be so very painful. I had a local anaestic for my SNB, but a little of the tracer got outside the numbed area. It stung like heck, but the pain only lasted a very short time, maybe a minute or two.
-
I guess my bs (who is also the surg onc chief here) likes to do the injection himself, and he thinks it interferes (old school). In my early career, I was lucky enough to work with Dr. Krag, the bs who pioneered the first clinical trials of snb. He is just a lovely man and sent me info about the recent clinical trial using lidocaine. However, I forwarded all this info to my current bs to no avail.
Just don't know if I should I be more vocal? Seems silly not to address the pain for women if you can do something about it. There's enough we have to go through already.
-
Am I the only one who had their SNB weeks before my MX, and to have it under general anaesthetic?
-
I had axillary and i think 4 seperate breast biopsies before original mast last year. Good dose of valium or xanax does wonders
-
Jenn
I am a bit further out and mine have gone down significantly the second month so I think they will still get smaller. It took more than 3 wks to settle. I am 9 weeks now
Hugs
Lesley -
Is your energy back?
-
I am at 5 weeks now and each week is better and better. Definitely feel energy coming back. Walking about 2 miles daily at this point. And sleeping hard. Still having a tough time getting comfortable in bed. Started back on femara and the hip/back pain is creeping back.
-
Anyone else have any skin necrosis? I have a black scabby-looking patch that the nurse said is necrosis. She went to pull it off but it didn't seem ready so she left it so as it wouldn't leave a dent on my boob. My scars have healed beautifully apart from this. It's on the edge of what was my areola. Yuk.
-
I had some necrosis on my abdomen. I would think pulling it off would leave a messy scar. The scabby part eventually came off on it's own.
-
The skin necrosis has to come off like a baby's cord I was told and it seemed to take forever. Some report their PS debrided it. It seems to be rather common with the girls on this thread.
-
I shopped for new bra today. My docs instruction says you can wear normal brawhen those drains are gone.
Got pretty one with flowers on it from VS. My dd works there, so its on her. Had manager size me. It was like a dream come true. I have a bazillion panties from there -
Oh my energy def coming back. My MIL made mecountry fried steak, mash potatoes and wilted lettuce. Shes leaving with my mom tomorrow. Pretty much off pain pils. My stomach is tight though. I am 38cbtw
-
Sounds like you had fun Fran! And the food your MIL made sounds divine. Jealous of your 38C since that is the size I wanted but ended up with 38D/DD.
I lost 5kgs with this surgery but despite me eating lightly (no fried chicken for me!) weight has been creeping up again this past week. I am back taking the Tamoxifen and had a 3-weekly Herceptin infusion last Thursday and am sure I can blame these two things for this weight :-/
Very frustrating since I am sitting in the overweight category and could afford to lose weight. Had been trying really hard before surgery with no success. Really thought this surgery would get me on the right downward trend...
Jenn -
I lost ten pounds after sx. Had no appetite, my hubby wanted his 38 Ds back
-
Ha! Sounds like we need to do a boob swap. My DH isn't much into large breasts...
Jenn -
Cg1234...logged on to say..YOU GO GIRL!!! Will be sending you strength & healing vibes from the rainy Northwest!!! Yep...stage 2 11/1..so we'll be nursing the tummy & toobs at the same time
Fran...I'm glad you were closely monitoring yourself and knew to seek help with the fever!!! Seriously, I think the only exploring I did for the first 2 weeks after surgery was walking around the neighborhood & down to the pool to watch grandkids swim!!! By now you're back home & hopefully resting well!! Nothing like being home!!
Beckers...I will definitely let you know how Stage 2 goes...so happy there are no drains involved!!!!
Linda...When I was diagnosed I was so happy to be able to get rid of bc with a lumpectomy, brachytherapy (internal radiation), chemo, herceptin and femara and am BRCA negative. I never thought about cancer coming back cause I did everything to make sure of that. Call me stupid...but I lived life fully and happily...and was surprised and saddened that friends who went through the journey expressed to me that they worried every day about it coming back. When it did come back (I lost 4 aunts to bc and a 5th is a survivor) to the same breast, my team said both breasts needed to go...no erasing, no erasing. The genetic counselors said to bank my blood because there are many bc genes being identified at this time and it would be good to know if I have one for future generations (which my team thinks is a pretty good bet). Anyhoo...I'm at peace w/out my breasts and happy with my diep shape. My surgeon said I won't get breast cancer again...but if I want him to tell me I won't ever get cancer again, he said he can't tell any of his patients that. Once again, I am happily stupid, choosing to live life fully and happily....except for the times that I'm depressed and pissed off about all of it
-
So funny...I start typing and by the time I finish, there's a whole page of more entries!!! We must all be sitting here on a boring Saturday afternoon...love that we can stay in touch...and in the moment!!!
My PT says she can still feel a tiny bit of swelling in the R side...and I'm 15 weeks out. I definitely started a large C and now am a full B..which is normal for me.
My SNB the day of my lumpectomy stung. They put emola (sp) cream on my nipple a few hours before, which was supposed to lessen the sting, but it didn't help much. It wasn't intolerable, but I have pretty good pain tolerance. For my second SNB before mx I was dreading it, but it was at a different center and they used lidocaine and it was painless. Hate to sound tough, but it's one of the most important parts of surgery...so it must be done...and you'll get through it just fine CG!!!!
-
uh-oh! I am strongly leaning toward DIEP reconstruction once I finish my chemotherapy, but the comment above about weight loss is scaring me a bit. I am on the borderline of not having enough donor tissue for DIEP, and don't have ten pounds to lose in any case, that would be underweight for my height. Plus, won't the reconstructed breast shrink with weight loss?
So now I am asking those who had DIEP longer ago than a few weeks--did you have unintended/unwanted weight loss? Were you able to gain the weight back? How did the loss & regain affect your DIEP results?
-
?? those of you that have completed Stage 1 and traveled for care. Did you require any care by a physician when you returned home if so , who helped you out. My breast surgeon said "the problem with traveling for recostruction is that you come home and have problems, there is no one here to care for you"!!??
Will probably have a new primary care physician?
Just wondering...I think I can pull drains if I need to.
Thanks for our input.
-
curveball - I did not have the weight loss that others did. I think it is another of those things that varies from person to person.
You will probably need to eat smaller meals, but just more of them.
-
I just had no appetite, i am probably gaining it back. I didnt think i had much fat either. But dr A found enough for size C.i alwayslose my appetite and get horribly constipated after sx. Mine arent finished yet but i amsohappy with them
-
kimdy, I didn't make any arrangements to have anyone help me with care. However, my breast surgeon was furious that I was pursuing a DIEP against her advice and we "broke up." The plastic surgeon who I was going to use had I gotten implants was much nicer and said everyone should make their own choices... he agreed to see me if I needed help, but ONLY if I "lived" in New Orleans for 3 to 4 weeks before coming home. My sister is a nurse and works with a doctor who was very negative about my not having aftercare in this travel kind of situation. One of the doctors who operates at the hospital in New Orleans, Dr. Massey, does require a helper doctor at home -- maybe a general practitioner or Ob/gyn? Also aren't most MO's board certified in internal medicine? Just a thought. Oh, and my husband pulled my drains. Some of the ladies in the NOLA forum pulled their own and had no issues with it. In any event, I'm now past stage 1 & stage 2 in New Orleans, doing well and looking great. When I had questions, I took photos with my iphone and emailed them to my surgeon's staff. For most people, it really does work out just fine!!!
-
I took a break to enjoy my last weekend and had fun at my high school reunion last night. Bc is occupying more of my thoughts though as wednesday gets closer. A little more work to do at home and office tomorrow then parents and in laws coming to help. I think my boy is going to get spoiled while I'm gone!
Ronniekay, thanks for the encouragement! I'll be thinking of you with stage 2.
Curveball, do you have time to gain extra weight beforehand? I put on 5 lbs and know a few others who did the same to prepare.
So glad to hear energy and appetite returning for those of you just a few weeks out! You're giving me hope and optimism all will be well! -
Cindy, I am glad you got to have fun this weekend. Wishing you all the best for your surgery.
