Rads with bolus

Options

Just had my first dose today. And they used what they called a bolus. Anyone else have this?

My basic understanding is that it will intensify the dose to the skin. And increase the skin side effefts.

I have not really seen much mention of this. Just wondering if this is a part of the normal protocol or not. Thanks all!

I had the same thing. Honestly I didn't know why they used it. My skin tolerated the treatment really well. Only towards the end did I show signs of burning. I never felt anything because I was still numb from surgery. I used something called Domeboro to help with the burns. You get it at any pharmacy. I think it really helped the burns heal. Beat wishes.

Now that I am thinking about it, I think it had something to do with taking up some of the depth of the beam so your skin would be treated too. Otherwise the skin is bypassed. Hopefully someone more knowledgable will correct me or articulate the concept more clearly.
