Hi I'm new to this site and so far I love it! answered many questions. I'm triple negative and brac2. Just finish chemo last week. I'm now waiting for a date to do double mastectomy and remove my ovaries. I'm really scared and I just wanted to hear from someone who is or was in the same position. I will get recontruction with implants and I'm just wondering if I should do expanders first or what?

Hi funnygirl, and welcome to BCO.

You might also want to post in the Breast Reconstruction forum to connect with others who have personal experience with the decisions you're facing about reconstruction.

As well, there is a large section on Reconstruction at the main Breastcancer.org site - just follow the links down the left side of that first page to learn much more about your options.

Hi, I had very similar experience to you but I decided not to go for the rebuild. This may sound odd to some and I suppose it depends how old you are. I am a young 55 (diag at 52) and fully intended to have a recon. After having one breast removed I felt horrible and couldn't wait to get rid of the other one and to have my rebuild. However, after the other one came off and I was no longer lop sided, I didn't care anymore. My very supportive husband didn't want me to have recon as he felt I'd been thru enough and I have to say, it's great not having boobs getting in the way.  I'm very happy with my slim, athletic looking chest and when I go out at night and want a more womanly shape, I have various sizes of prostheses to choose from.

If I were you, i wouldn't rush in for surgery, let yourself recover and see how you feel, you might find you're happy and confident without putting yourself through more surgery. Good luck, whatever your decision.

Hi there, I am also new to this website.

I was Triple Negative; BRAC 1.  I went through 12 weeks of Chemo and had my double mastectomy on Sept 25th.  At the time of surgery, I had tissue expanders put in.  Due to my decision of having the DIEP Reconstruction, my PS did not want to complete the DIEP reconstruction until they knew if I needed radiation (results dependent on lymph nodes) - therefore, had the tissue expanders put in.  I have to say they are not comfortable, but at age 34 I did not want to go without.

The surgery went well and as you, I was so scared!  But I just kept telling myself - I had no choice and had to get it done.

I begin my 2nd round of chemo on Oct 19th - and not looking forward to it.  Once my Chemo is done, I will then begin my reconstruction. My initial decision was the DIEP, However, after having the double mastectomy - I am now thinking of having implants.  The recovery period is difficult, especially with a 1 1/2 & 3 1/2 Yr Old.

Good Luck and I wish you a successful surgery!

To answer Wiggy I'm 37 and not married, so I want some breast! lol. I finally got a date, oct 26. I can't believe it but it's like right around the corner, staying positive, eating all the veggies and fruits that I can to be strong. I try to live today and not think of tomorrow cause it didn't get here yet. I will have to do TE first then after chemo implants cause I don't have enough fat or whatever they need to do both my breast. So I will have to deal with the TE and the pain ( so I heard) then radiation then we hope for the best. Woke up with a huge smile on my face and decided to keep it there for as long as I can.

Yes,  I was diagnosed with triple negative secondary breast cancer on 20th August 2012 and started chemo on 27th August.  Had just had my third infusion of Taxotere and the body is coping well.  The lymph node in my neck has all but gone, and there has been some reduction in the tumour in my right breast. I am due to have a CT scan in mid November at which stage we shall be able to see if the tumours down the front of my chest, under my right arm, in my lungs and in my breast have also reduced.  Chemo knocks me around about a week after the infusion, but then I pick up slowly again and have a few days of feeling normal.  Still can't believe this is happening to me - mammograms all clear and only went to the doctors as I had a sore arm.  I am a fit 65 year old and plan to fight this with all I have, but I have yet to know anyone else with seondary triple negative breast cancer... anyone there?

I was diagnosed for tnbc on 10/4/12 and and had mastectomy on 1 breast and expender put in. Not very comfortable, but manageable. I am 40. still try to figure out chemo treatment plan - tc*4 or ac*4 followed by t*4?

    Any input?

    yananma,

You will find many differing opinions here about which chemo plan to take.  Only you and your doctor can really make that decision. Some people will say throw every thing at it which would be AC.  But there are risks of heart problems with AC.  Others will say that TC is a perfectly acceptable alternative and will do the same job with less of the nasty side effects.  Weigh the pros and cons and talk to you doctor about your fears, concerns, etc.  And once the decision is made, don't second guess it.

Life happens while we are making other plans.  I wish you peace and good health.  Namaste'.
