Bras After Cancer Treatment

Hello everyone,

I finished chemo in June and rads in August.  However I still find that I have a small amount of soreness still under my breast that makes it more comfortable to wear my camisoles instead of going back to bras.  How long did it take you to be able to wear a bra again?  Also, was there any particular brand/style of bra that you found most comfortable after cancer treatment?  Thanks.

What type of surgery did you have? Bilateral or uni? Any reconstruction? This might help with some practical suggestions for you.

Don't want to highjack the topic, but I'm also looking for suggestions for my friend who is having an unilateral mx with lymph node removal in a week. She isn't having immediate reconstruction. Thanks a bunch.

I had a UMX w/o recon March 2012 and definitely understand the dilemma of what to wear.  I had purchased a mastectomy camisole with removable drain pockets and removable fiber foobs.  I didn't use the camisole with the drain pockets after my UMX because I found it more comfortable to wear the front zip up dri fit athletic jackets with inside pockets ( Champion Brand from Target $28.00).  After I recovered enough from the UMX, I purchased some t-shirt camisoles with a built in bra shelf that I also got from Target (pj dept.).  I now wear sports bras with removable inserts which are great.  I found those at Marshall's and TJ Maxx for about $13.00.  I buy the sports bras a size larger than I would normally wear since it feels better not to wear anything too tight.   I can also place one of those fake fiber foobs in the sports bra pocket.   I haven't not been fitted for masectomy bras or for a prosthesis.  Just taking my time and not rushing into purchasing those items.  I'm also in the process of fixing my regular bras to hold the foob.  I know one can go to Nordstroms and have this done if the bras are purchased at Nordstroms.  Good luck to all of you.

I LOVE soma wirefree vanishing back bra.  I went to the store and got fitted and talked with them about how the band size needed to be looser so that it doesn't affect my LE.  Its the most comfortable bra.   I have two prothesis a fabric one that for the most part stays in place without a pocket and a silicon one that "sticks" to my skin and works great with these bras.  Ihave tried polly 10 diffrerent bras including sports bras and these are by far my favorites.  The lady said they get a lot of PS referals for woman who get implant surgeries, who knew.  But I now have three of them, they have their big sale right now and I think they had two colors on sale for like $24.  Totally worth it.   When I do where an ultra loose sports bra, I usually go with my uniboob because the prothesis never look right.
