Thanks for sharing!   Everyone should exercise more, and it's pretty cool to figure out exactly what helps the body fight the cancer.  I hope one day those who could not exercise could still benefit from this research.

Bottom line is:  breast cancer has no cure.   Recurrence is a crap shot.   Keep investing and keep working on the cure.

For those trying to lose weight....a new study showed 30 minutes of exercise helped people lose 3 or so more pounds than those who exercised an hour.

Before BC, I would exercise 2.5 hours/day......yeah, that worked for me Yell

I was dx'd in September 2011. In March 2012, I began an intensive diet and exercise program that was closely medically monitored.

I started exercising slowly - a walk to the mailbox and back. Undecided Eventually I could power-walk for an hour. I rode my bike. I did water aerobics for 90 minutes, three times a week.

When I'd lost almost 60 pounds, more than 65 total inches, and my BMI went from 34.1 to 24.1, my oncologist told me I had reduced my risk of recurrence by 23%.

That breast cancer diagnosis saved my life in SO many ways!!!

Blessings--you are an inspiration! I was diagnosed only about 2 weeks ahead of you and had a longer treatment cycle, but you are such an inspiration that I am going to step up my workout efforts. I lost 20 pounds during treatment, which I know is unusual, and I'm trying hard to lose 10-20 more, get into a healthy BMI and continue my daily exercise program.

Aw, thanks, mary625....but I didn't have rads OR chemo. I think if I had been in active treatment, it would have been MUCH harder.

Because I am 100%ER+, I initially started my diet and exercise program as ammunition against my oncologist, so I wouldn't have to take the Arimidex. I had told her that I didn't need the AI because I was post-menopausal and had already had a hysterectomy. She kindly pointed out that estrogen was produced in body fat, of which I had plenty.

I couldn't control the fact that I got BC, but I felt like I could control the amount of body fat I had.

I think the reason that I was succesful was that I considered that this program WAS my breast cancer treatment.

There was no way I was going to "cheat", and no way I was going to weenie out on my workouts. I looked at it as medicine.

(I ended up taking the Arimidex anyway....Wink )

Wishing you - and mommy4 - the best. You can do it! (One day, one step at a time...)

Thank you. Congratulations on your well deserved success. Interesting point about estrogen stored in body fat. A true incentive. my onc never told me that.
