Hi, this is the top front page of our local paper today. If someone knows how to  post it- that would be great.  Basically, Dr. Craig Meyers out of Hershey, PA (Penn State) can not get enough funding for his work. He has not received funding from Susan Komen... Needs  2 to 4 million / 2to 4 years to get to human trials....

Anyway, thought I would share.

    Doctor at Penn State Hershey can't get funding for research.

    Meyers said he needs $500,000 a year for two to four years to get to human testing. So far, major funders such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Cancer Institute have not supported his work.

    Komen foundation officials do not comment on grant applications, said Communications Director Andrea Rader. The foundation receives hundreds of requests each year, she said, and is funding 500 research projects at a cost of $300 million.

    Here we go again. This research goes all the way back to 1981! I don't know if it makes anyone else wonder but it sure makes me wonder.

    I'm sorry, I just get so sick and tired of reading plausable cures that aren't related to big pharma and they just sit there on the back burner.

    From the article:

    "The idea and concept of using AAV to target tumors is somewhat 'old new,' "
    said Dr. Richard J. Samulski, a researcher at the University of North
    Carolina.

    He noted research going back to 1981 showing that AAV inhibited cancer tumor
    growth in hamsters."

    thank you for reading this. My understanding of the science of this disease always seems limited  and  I read this  and think- Why not?

     Here's a link to an article which states a doctor at Cleveland Clinic needs funding for human trials for a vaccine he's created.  It also states Komen and others turned down requests to fund the trials.

    I was in contact with the Penn State Hershey Medical Center and have donated a small amount of money.  It doesn't seem like any of the major organizations are going to fund his research.  If you would like to join my grassroots effort to help fund this, you can either call them or send them the money directly.  You can make a donation in honor of someone or in memory of someone.  You must let them know that it is for Dr. Craig Meyers Cancer Research.  Here is the phone # and address.

    Someone on another board I frequent sent me this link to a Phase 2 virus trial. I think this is a different virus, but it also selectively kills cancer cells and leaves normal cells unharmed. It's in Canada, but might be within reach for some in the US too.
