I have a question about lymphadema. Can blunt trauma cause lymphadema 2 yrs. after node removal?  Was rear ended in my van yesterday by a very large commercial truck. I was pushed into the car in front of me and they were pushed into the car in front of them. My van and the car in front of me are "write offs". Lots of damage to the frames. Needless to say I am suffering from whip lash but last night the back of my shoulder and upper arm and my side were aching and swelled up. This morning my shoulder felt kind of frozen but side was still aching and swollen and things feel "tight". I don't see my dr. until monday morning and I'm wondering if thats leaving it too long if it is lymphadema? Any thoughts?

JMW were you seen in an ER Immediately after the accident to have your injuries assessed? My first concern is you need to rule out any serious injury from the accident. If you have already been x-rayed and seen by a trauma center or ER where no serious damage was found, that is good news, but I suspect the stiffness, tightness and swelling you are feeling right now is due to the injuries.

There is also reason to be concerned about LE because your lymphatic system will be overworking during this period of inflammation and healing, but I think it is too early to attribute your current symptoms to LE. If you have not yet had your injuries evaluated from the accident I think that is the priority right now. Personally, waiting to see your doctor til next Monday for a serious accident that happened yesterday I believe is too long a wait. An LE evaluation will be in order after your injuries have been fully diagnosed and well on their way to healing. Continue to practice risk reduction strategies and keep yourself well hydrated during your recovery period.

So sorry you had such an accident, but make sure you are being properly treated for those injuries first. If it were me I would try to see my doctor sooner.

Thank you for your response. Yes I went  to the emerg. at the hospital and it was decided that my only injury was the whiplash. I hope they're right! I will take your advice and thanks......I forgot about the drinking lots of water. Jeannie
