Thyroid issues!!!

Hey as we were re-opening the subject of the "normal" triple negative person, it got me to wondering. How many of you might have
Thyroid issues? I have Hypo/Hashimotos and my dog has hypo and she has many tumors...........we started medicine the same day and she has many of the same symptoms as I do, and it just got me to thinking after reading up that thyroid issues could be the cause of some cancers, with the body not working properly. -
Hello Stupidboob
I have just read your new thread and was interested to read about your hypothyroid problem (Hashimoto) and that of your dog.I did read some time ago that an under-active thyroid was a risk factor in the development of breast cancer.
I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism at the same time as TNBC in 2005. I am convinced there is a connection between the two. My consultant told me that she thought the hyperparathyroid problem preceded the breast cancer.
There is a lot of information about all this on the thread High Blood Calcium Levels in the forum Not Diagnosed with a Recurrence or Metastases but Concerned.
I agree with you that, when hormones in the body are not functioning properly, we have no idea what they may be causing. You may be interested in looking at parathyroid.com.
Best wishes

Yes, I'm hypothyroid too. I'd been on thyroxine for 18 months before I found my breast lump. I did find a few articles online about a link between the two but my endocrinologist and oncologist both said there's no connection. As we are triple negative the change in hormones shouldn't impact. That said I do think that in a few years they'll find some other hormone that triggers TNBC. There seems to be a lot of us with young children... Change in hormones during/after pregnancy?

thank you for your responses...................hey at least I got two right....:) I too think they are going to find what triggers our cancer. I sure wish I knew how to research this crap......I would love to be the one who helped figure it out and create a cure.....would that not be nice
thanks again ladies

I always imagine winning the PowerBall, so I can donate all but $1Million to funding research.
I went to a Primary Care Physician after completing chemo, convinced that I had the "Metabolic Syndrome" which has been linked to some TNBC. My PCP tested the thyroid - results optimal. He also tested my cholesterol - results optimum range for each type of cholesterol. He tested my D3 and it came back extremely deficient. Now I'm on D3 Liquid Drops - 4,000 i.u each day until range improves.
I thought everything caused mine. I got rid of my laptop, switched to organic shampoo/soap/shave cream. Switched out teflon coated cookware to Stainless Steel. Switched out cleaning products to safer rates ones. Cleaned up my eating habits - out with the Oreos, in with the Brocolli and Cauliflower - and add in 90 minutes of exercise each day.
I also am suspicious of anything that I was obsessive about the last 2 years. So that meant: out with the coffee, no more Diet Coke, in with the Water and Green Tea, and out with the chips/salsa habit. And if possible, less stress.
I had no family history of any medical problems. My bloodpressure is extra low.
The only things I kept after my diagnosis were the husband and the 2 cats.
)
I'm glad to see the postings where someone has an opinion of what they think it could be related to. It's interesting to read a commonality or be aware of particular items or perhaps of a health connection.
Reading is knowledge and knowledge is power.
Sending out hugs and happy thoughts to all my BC Sisters/Brothers today.

inspiredbyD..........thanks for sharing. Have you stuck with those habits...........I HAVE NOT!!! We were all gung-ho about it when I first come off treatment. I ate horrible during chemo because of the mouth issues. Even with the magic mouthwash but a ton better. It took me several phone calls to get them to believe I had mouth sores as they said it was to soon, well not for me. So, I ate pudding and ice cream and soft textured stuff which is usually no good for us. I can't seem to break the habit though I fear this disease. Can't figure that one out in my own mind. I too was low in Vitamin D but not as low as you as they only put me on 1000IU. I am going to look into that Metabolic Syndrome. I worry so much about my laptop as I have always said I think microwaves and computer and these fancy tvs are contributing factorsl, yet it is my lifeline to the world. I have agoraphobia so I don't get out much. I am suspicious too and even gave up one of my favorite lotions but then my social worker said since there was no real proof was it worth it to give up something I loved on a chance.......I guess kind of like quality of life over quantity but I want both......:)

Hi StupidBoob!
First to everyone: Here is an interesting article regarding Breast Cancer Genetic. You must click on the pictures in the article to see the mutation sources, this is in the start of the article where it mentions researches believe 5-10 critical mutations must occur before a cancer cell line is developed. I've read the article a few times, but just realized you were supposed to click on the mutation picture, to see what elements fall under that. Then you can click that for more info. For instance, if you click "chemically induced" you get: air/water/food/environment. If you click "organism" you will see tumor viruses, and then if you click that you can see a whole list of viruses. If you instead click bacteria, it takes you a list of reference pages, and then more interesting research articles.

StupidBoob:
Yes, I have stuck to my new regime like glue.
I have thought of the TV thing too and wanted to reduce our living room TV size a little. I'm working on this still.
And same with me, regarding the microwave. I don't use it anymore.
You sound like you are doing great! You are 1 1/2 years out! Well done.
