I have not been diagnosed with cancer. My mom, however, has. I wanted a place where I can talk, ask questions, and express myself. This topic is something that I posted so others who are going through the same thing that I am will have a place to express themselfs and ask questions.

    My mother has been diagnosed with stage four Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. It has been hard for my brothers, sisters, and I. Our father had cancer and almost died. Our moms cancer is worse than his. My mother has had one treatment so far. The doctors say that she will have to have treatments(chemo) until January then she will have a lumpectomy, then one more year of treatments(Both chemo and radiation). When she as diagnosed she said that she didnt care if she lost her breasts or her hair. She just didnt want to loose her strength(and if you knew my mom you would know how important that was to her. She is the glue that keeps our entire family together.) She has lost her strength and just started loosing her hair yesterday. So today she went and had it all shaved off. I think that once she did that it hit her harder than she thought that it would. I think that she lost her stregnth and the only thing that she really had left was her hair. I know that it hit me harder than I thought when she shaved off her hair! What reactions did others have with this? I need some encouragment right about now.

    Hi,

    I'm sorry your mom was diagnosed with BC. BC.org is a great place for support and community. When my sister was diagnosed I felt like we had joined a club that we didn't want to join, but we had no choice. Cancer when it's first diagnosed and each day after is a real life's journey that is hard but it can be filled with lots of love too.

    When my sister lost her hair, it was harder for her than me. I wanted to shave mine off too but my mom told me not too. I think after awhile the hair becomes less important, and it becomes more important to have lots of good days in between treatments and scans and all the appointments that go with having cancer. I hope your family can be a great support to your mom, sometimes people can't handle it and some people are natural at helping and caring for others. Does your mom like scarves or wigs? My sister bought a cute wig but she just went with out it. Her hair grew back.
