Oncotype DX trial for ILC type cancer.
I have recently had a mastectomy on the Left side and am now deciding on treatment. I have been offered standard treatment of Chemo and hormone therapy. I have also been asked of i want to go on a trial that does the Oncotyoe DX test.. I am not sure what to do, as I am not sure whether I am early stage enough? I am 41 had two tumors (5.5cm 2.2cm) Er+PR+ HER2- clear margins (i think) and had sentinal node biopsy (0/6)
I am not sure what i would do if i had low score results, I think (as do many of friends and family especially my mum who has had breast cancer twice and chemo both times) that i would want chemo anyway as i would worry all the time - unless it really can prove that the tumors are not sensitive to chemo and it wouldnt have any affect - any thoughts?
Also, does anyone know whether monthly injections to stop periods alongside hormone therapy (Tamoxifen) is worth pushing for?
Many thanks

RedW - I can't help you with your decision but I'm glad to see that there is a study out there looking at ILC and oncotype. Personally, I had a low oncotype but 2 large positive nodes with ECE. I had opinions from 3 MOs who all recommended chemo for me.
Since your mother has also had BC, did you have BRCA testing? If you were positive, might that effect your treatment decision?
Hoping that you come to peace with your decision.

Thanks, not had the BRCA testing as only just managed to persuade the Dr to let me have a mammogram (given young age etc...!!!) My mum has asked for Gene testing but it is all taking a long time!
Think i will decide to just have the chemo and get on with it as having an action plan is driving me mad.
Thanks again!

Hi,
I was diagnosed with ILC in 2006 and had the oncotypedx test that resulted in a score of 9. I didn't do chemo and had a recurrence of ILC in the same breast 4 years later. I had a lumpectomy, and 34 radiation treatments in 2006 followed by Tamoxifen for 4 years. After the recurrence, I had a double mast, dose dense chemo for 5 months and on Arimidex for 10 years...... God willing.
Good luck,
Nancy

This is my dilemma as well with the RxPonder clinical trial for node-positive. My oncotype is 16, and I got randomized into the Tamoxifen only group. With a positive node I am nervous about it, so seeking a 2nd opinion. My advice would be to get a second opinion before deciding on the trial. Good luck!!
