LCIS past age 60

"LCIS is usually diagnosed before menopause, most often between the ages of 40 and 50. Less than 10% of women diagnosed with LCIS have already gone through menopause".

Well I turned out to be one of the lucky 10% of women diagnosed with LCIS at age 62.  I may have had this a long time and didn't know until it showed up on my mammo this year as a group of suspicious clusters of microcalcs.  But who really knows.   

I cannot take any prevention drugs, which I decided not to take before I know I would not be able to take, due to a serious lung disease, so I'm only on close surveillance.  I was just diagnosed in May of this year, although I've had breast issues since I am 28 years old, none were serious.  No family history, so I guess I just have to hope for the best. 

I postponed my 6 month mammo/sono due to another health issue and a still extremely sore breast from my exscisional biopsy, but will be going in December instead of October.

    I am 53 and just diagnosed with LCIS.  I have gone through menopause, but it was surgical because of severe endometriosis.  In January I had a mastectomy with tram flap reconstruction of my right breast.  It was quite a shock to find out I had a problem in my left breast.  I suppose since I had surgical menopause, maybe I would have been diagnosed before menopause so I'm not really in this category, but I suppose that is splitting hairs.

     I hope for the best for you, I know how tiring it is fooling around with health issues, doctors appointments and procedures.  And something likes this brings such uncertainty.  Take care and be good to yourself.

    Hi Rosy. I was 56 and menopausal (natural meno.) Although I did have a total hyst. Because of a HUGE fibroid. I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy since i have a family history of both breast and ovarian cancers. I also have an anxiety disorder and couldn't deal with the constant monitoring. I would always be waiting for the other shoe to drop. Welcome to the group and feel free to ask any questions. Nan

    Hi Nan,

    My first response to this diagnosis was to have the PBM, and if anything more comes up with my next mammo/sono, etc. I will be making this request.  Do you know how long the surgery is without any reconstruction?  Due to my lung disease, I would be looking for the shortest amount of time to be under anesthesia.  I'm fine without having reconstruction.

    I also have anxiety disorder and this LCIS diagnosis came 7 months after my lung disease diagnosis, which pretty much sent me over the edge.  Thanks for any infor you can provide.

    I think my surgery took about 3 hours, no reconstruction. I was in the hospital one night, went home with drains the next day. It's all kind of a blur! Lol what kind of lung disease do you have? My dh has lung issues.

    I have COPD.  What lung issues does your DH have?  

    It is so difficult sometimes between the breathing issues and the LCIS issues and the anxiety that comes along with both.   It's good that it's a blur for you now.   Thank you for sharing with me.  It helped me a lot. Rosy

    Hugs! I'm sorry you have to deal with COPD on top of LCIS. My dh had sarcoidosis many years ago that affected his lungs. Latest was bronchiectasis. He's always got something brewing lung wise. He's good until he gets a resp. Infection, then it always turns into something worrisome. Nan

    I'm sorry to hear that Nan.  I carry hand cleaner with me every where i go, and clean everything I touch.  I probably look like a 'nut job' but I don't care.  I clean my house phones, computer keyboard, romote controls, door knobs, light switches, etc.  I carry a mask like the doc's wear in my bag.

    Yup, I got hit with a double wammy COPD & LCIS.  Thanks for the hugs, because I really need them.  Rosy
